  1. When I bought our ATV's in 04 I was going to buy a snow blade for mine.I decided to wait for a bad winter and after 4 years still waiting. Not that that is a bad thing but I was wondering. Do you have an Atv with snow blade accessory. If so what what did you buy? Tractor supply stocks a universal blade with mount but I'm sure there are others better.I need to get a winch to.
  2. Did you have any signs that it was going bad, or was that the problem? I am just asking because my key gets hot, never had any problems with it, but I don`t really want to get out in the middle of nowhere and have it go to junk on me.. Kreg:confused07:
  3. The good news is that my Garmin Zumo 550 arrived today. The bad news is that it arrived about 2 hours after I left. That's life. My son called to tell me that it had arrived but Eileen and I had already left for our 4 day anniversary vacation. It gives me something to look forward to when I get home though. Except for all of that: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY VENTURERIDER FRIENDS!
  4. without any bike related deaths? I know we lost a couple from illness, but I am not aware of any from bike crashes. I also know that 2007 was a really bad year with at least a couple of deaths with some really bad crashes. RandyA
  5. it looks like i will have to ride home to Fl. Christmas , I-10 and I-12 used to be real bad through La. , the last time i drove though there was 1999 , how bad are the roads now ? Thom
  6. 6 MONTHS AGO I QUIT SMOKING..AFTER SMOKING FOR 40 YEARS , TATERS AND DECIDED TO STOP...DID THE CHANTIX THING, DONT RECOMEND THE DRUG UNLESS YOUR AWARE OF THE SIDE AFFECTS..CAN BE BAD FOR SOME...WAS FOR ME...NEVERLESS I QUIT AND STILL CANT BELIEVE I'M A NON SMOKER....WILL NEVER BE ONE OF THOSE PREACHING NON SMOKERS BECAUSE I KNOW HOW I HATED ALL THE SMOKING COMMENTS MADE TO ME OVER THE YEARS.....JUST HAPPY WE QUIT...BAD THING ,EVERY NOW AND THEN..I STILL HAVE THE URGE...WILL IT EVER STOP? WOULDN'T MIND ONE NOW...
  7. My 83 recently started crapping out while riding-I pulled the left side cover and located the 3 white wire connection--difficult to even pull apart (you guys know what's coming next!) Once I got it apart-it looked bad and burnt and melted the plastic connector! The black plastic wire cover that is over all 3 wires is hard as a rock, splitting, oil leaking out! And the 3 white wires insulation is brittle. So, the $100.00 question is---since it needs to be replaced-is there an upgrade for the rectifier/regulator? I know sometimes VMAX stuff interchanges-and since I need to replace the r/r due to bad wiring--should I replace the stator at the same time-seems like the 2 go hand in hand, and if so, is there an upgrade for that? I don't have a lot of extra cash right now and would like to fix this the first time. Any recommendations for vendors or after market suppliers for these 2 parts? (My bike has 38,000 miles on it) Thanks for the help and advice in advance!--Steve
  8. Is the front end just naturally a bit harsh on earlier years Ventures, or should I be thinking it is something else. It had 10 lbs of air in the forks and when pumping them while holding the brake they don't feel all that bad, but on the road it's a different story. The bike just turned over 22,000 miles and is in exc. condition. Louie
  9. Hello all! :-) Well... I think I will be taking the plunge but I still have cold feet about this one.. :-( My 2006 Roadliner S 1900 has been a great machine for me... Nice large cruiser that turns quite a few heads wherever she goes.... That v-twin 1900 has so much low end it pulls like a freight train... Fuel-injected, belt drive.. I love that bike... However, around 18000 miles a year on bikes, I have been replacing tires and more tires on my Roadliner... and after about 400 miles in the saddle (converted to a Mustang with backrest), it just isn't comfortable anymore... I really cannot find anything bad in the reviews or in the forums that tell me I would be making a bad choice going to a Venture.... Can someone help 'push me over the edge'?? Thanks!
  10. I posted a problem I am having with my 83 Venture awhile back but haven't found a cure. The brake warning light is displaying at times. In the morning when it's cool (40's lately) it usually doesn't come on. In the afternoon after sitting in the sun it comes on within a half a mile. When I hit a bump it sometimes comes on. I have checked the brake fluid, etc. No problem there. I think it is a bad wiring connection or something along that line. So my question is: How do I unhook this so it doesn't come on anymore? P.S. you don't spell "idiot" like I did in the title above. Ronnie
  11. Hi everyone! I'm fixing up an 05' tour deluxe I just bought but it has some serious issues that I could use some advice on. #1 As you can see from the pic it has been laid down pretty bad and the right side has sustained a lot of damage. I have both cowlings on order and the vacuum pump was smashed so its comming also. I took off both saddle bags because the right one is so bad it can't be fixed. I don't have the $$$$ bling to buy a new one this year so I am trying to decide if i should go with some leather bags for now or just leave them off altogether for a while. (I think it needs something) Do you guys have a line on any used stock bags? My nephew works at a dealership a few hours away so I get screaming good deals on OEM stuff if I order through him but they evidently don't sell just the tub. (they sell every other part separately of course) #2 As mentioned above the vacuum pump is on order and I have been tooling around town without it but the bike runs like crap above 3rd gear. Does the pump missing have any connection to pour performance (I assumed it is just for the cruise control)? Symptoms are: 1st and 2nd seem fine but start getting a little blubbery in 3rd but when you get into 4th gear and 5th it won't accelerate well and sounds like it is missing or completely bogging out. I pulled the carbs and went through each bowl trying to make sure there wasn' a bunch of crapolla in there but they weren't that bad. Still runs bad. I should have the vacuum pump next week and I figure if it is still crapping out after I get it back together then it will have to make a trip to the dealer. Any help on either question would be appreciated.

    Bad fuel pump?

My 86 Venture Royale has 32000 miles and has been running excellent, but now it won't run at all except at a fast idle and that with the choke full on. Is this a bad fuel pump symptom? Thanks for any advice.

  14. Don't know if I posted this here or not. A couple of years ago, I had been out riding with the group I ride with and had stopped for supper. This was in the fall of the year here in SE Texas and was cool but not cold. We were in the resturant about 1 1/2 hr. When we came out, temp had cooled into the low 50's or high 40's. Started bike pulled out on asphalt. Was about a 1/2 mile to ramp for freeway, I-10 east. Went under I-10 was making turn to get on feeder road to ramp, when this van went around me on the right side intending to get in front of me. Didn't want to be behind said van, so grabbed a BIG handful of throttle. Now this is where this gets exciting!! A 1st. gen Venture in 1st gear really likes to accelerate, which in itself in not a bad thing. But, and I say again, but with cold tires and cold asphalt it turns into a BAD THING quickly!!!! The rear end decided to lead at this moment, and the direction it wanted to go was in the general direction of this 3/4 ton van which was beside me at this time!! I got it straightened up and didn't go down thank GOD, but I thought I might have to change underewar when I got home. The point of this, is don't grab a lot of throttle with cold tires on cold asphalt. Don H.
  15. Hey! Wanted to let everyone know that RideSafely now has three Ventures up for auction. 07, 03, 99 and none of them look to bad. Josh
  16. Just got my email service back a little while ago (was out 25 days) and am checking back in to see how things are going. I had to change my email from cox to ATT as cox was jacking us around. I also got rid of cox cable and am switching to Direct TV. I also got an estimate from my insurance man and they said that my damage to my house was around $25,000.00. Most of it was roof damage so not too bad as we will not have to move out or use ECK'S kind offer to store anything while the work is going on. It is good to be back and catch up on some of the news and gossip. Lyle
  17. First time it's done this... sitting still the radio sounds great, when i start moving i get bad static to the point you can't hear anything but the static. what's that all about?
  18. The explanation of the volt meter function in the owners manual is pretty wimpy. It says if the needle drops into the yellow zone while riding, see your dealer. So, electrical experts; Can the meter show a weak or dying battery? Would that be indicated by a low reading while the bike is not running? If so, I assume less than 10 volts or so would be an indication of a weak battery? And, what if the reading is weak while riding? Is that a bad battery, or a bad stator?
  19. Well, I guess I've got it bad. I've bought a second '84 Venture. I now own 2, the blue one and a red one. I pick up the new red bike next Saturday. It has some issues but seems mostly in good order. Body work, rear brakes, the usual kind of old Venture stuff, but only 21,000 Kilometers! Lots of tinkering postential. A bike to ride and a bike to tinker with, what could be better? Old blue ran well all the way over and back, about 110 km's total. I was afraid she'd sulk but nope, she seemed good with it. The sun came out on the way home which hopefully is a good omen too. I'll keep you posted. Brian H. Uxbridge Ont
  20. Just got my bike back after its been in the shop for 4 weeks and two days. I rode it to work and back for the past two days, approximately 120 miles. I parked it in the driveway when I got home and my wife and I took a walk around the yard. When we got back to the driveway, I was walking up to the bike to put it in the garage, and I noticed an oil spot under the bike. I looked under the bike and noticed oil leaking from the bottom of the shock. Now, I had the bike serviced while the dealer had it and was just hoping it could be something venting that caused the oil leak. I've read bad stories about shocks going bad and leaking oil. I hope thats not the case. If it is I'm going ballistic on Yamaha. I have just about had it with this bike. If it is the shock, can I ride it till I get the time to take it to the dealer and get it replaced? Anyway, any advice if it is a shock, and what should I do with this bike. It has less than 5000 miles on it and I'm just about ready to get rid of it. Thanks, Glenn
  21. ...dual 20" Cinema screens. Bad choice (in a way). It is a pair of modded early CB750's. One on each screen. Now I am thinking (bad rick, bad rick). I need two of them in the garage as his and her bikes. No you do not need a refill. Yes you do. No you don't. yes yes yes. Ok I win.
  22. I just happened to see this post in a local classified ad. Its for a motorcycle tent trailer, doesnt look too bad, if anyone is interested, let me know I can go look at it for you. http://www.usedregina.com/classified-ad/6854873 Brian
  23. Hey guys, I'm finally getting off the north slope of Alaska and am going to do my best to make Eureka Springs. Any motels other than the Eidelwiess (bad spelling) as I know it's full now. Thanks:snow: Jerry
  24. There is a lot of posts concerning 1st Gen carb diaphrams being bad, how to repair them, how to replace them, places they may be obtained at varying costs, etc, etc. What I would like ask those that have much more experience than I concerning diaphrams on the lst Gen, is how does one know when one or more need replacing in the first place? What are the symptoms of a bad diaphram and should the diaphrams be regularily checked for issues? Also, if I were to find one bad can one be exchanged from a another set of carbs? Can only the diaphram be reutilized from another carb or would it be wise to exchange the entire assembly diaphram and slide together? Just curious. I don't have any carb issues at the present time but one never knows what the future may hold with a 20 year old bike.
