  1. Great...on my way to look at the bike.
  2. Thanks everyone. It sounds like it's a bit more than I want to take a chance getting into unless I got the bike at a better price. The clutch pivot I could handle but don't want to start taking fairing pieces off ect., this time of year I want to be riding not working on a bike. Thanks Again, Looking at a couple of different one. Louie
  3. Can someone tell me when the 2 gear issue was taken care of with the 1st generation bikes. Going to look at a 86 and I'm thinking it was taken care of by this time. Thanks
  4. I'm looking at a 89 Venture at a dealer, and it seems everything on the bike works except for the cruise control. They called the guy who had the bike for a year prior to trading it in and he said it never worked for him either. Where would be the first places to start checking. Thanks
  5. I noticed today when I stopped to talk with a friend and started the bike back up it didn't spin the engine like it usually does. I then noticed that it wasn't charging like it usually does. When I left his house the bike immediately started charging the way it always does and did so all the way home till I went to put it in the garage, and then it started doing the same thing again, not charging the way it always did before. I just read the stator post and am wondering if it could be the connection that goes into the voltage regulator, or is this a symptom of the stator going out. I replaced one stator on a Suzuki Cavalcade, was not a fun job. Louie
  6. Thanks Bill, I'll try it out.
  7. Show the bike without a tag on it, your not telling the person you don't trust them, your telling them it's not legal to drive the bike all over town. If you live in the country maybe take it up the road a mile if you really trust the guy. If not do the 2 hr. contract of buying it back if there's something wrong with it after selling. It's a touchy thing with sport bikes.
  8. Can someone tell me the oil weight of automatic transmission fluid. I'd like to find something in the 10 wt. to put in my forks and try it out. I just got done putting 20 wt. in them a couple of weeks ago and they seem too harsh still. At 8.00 a pint for fork oil, I thought I would try the ATF and if it works to soften things up I'll go with the good stuff. If it doesn't I might have to go all the way down to a 5W oil. Louie
  9. That's not going to help, you will have a gps unit on your vehicle that tells them the mileage. This will probably be the way you get your tags when they inforce it.
  10. The wife made the comment she would like to go east to see the grand kids, but was wondering what I would do if she went. Hmmm, always wanted to break the winter up, go to Daytona and ride all over Florida for a week, this might be a opportune time. Couple of problems, I'm not hard core enough to ride down that time of year (biggest problem), got rid of the truck, and don't have a covered trailer. But, if someone is going down and you have room in your trailer for another bike (1st gen Venture) maybe we could work something out. I was going to fly down to wherever (haven't got the ticket yet), but if you need help with the driving maybe we could do it that way also. Also would need a ride for the bike back home. If this is something that sounds like it might be workable for you, contact me and we'll see if things can be worked out. Thanks
  11. Thanks Cowpuc, I will have some extra time this week and think I will do what you have suggested. Will probably do the springs this winter, I want to try and get one more day in of riding before I put it up for the winter though. Thanks again everyone.
  12. Wondering if anyone has a owners manual for a 83 Venture standard they would want to sell?
  13. Couple of things I want to check just to make sure it isn't something simple. After reading the repair manual I found that the anti-dive was set on the highest setting, don't know if this will make any difference but I will test it out. I know they checked the tire pressure before I left but I will check that again too and make sure it's correct. After I check the simple things, if it's still not to my satisfaction I'll take it the shop and have them look into it. Thanks
  14. Is the front end just naturally a bit harsh on earlier years Ventures, or should I be thinking it is something else. It had 10 lbs of air in the forks and when pumping them while holding the brake they don't feel all that bad, but on the road it's a different story. The bike just turned over 22,000 miles and is in exc. condition. Louie
