This can happen if you exchanged ANY of the yellow Coils Wires. Front to rear or left to right. You say it's running good ?? Nah, wait until it works like it should ... How Much Rpm is the Idle set ? You should set it more than 1000 RpM, at least for the Time tinkering. When you come down to balancing the Carbs, you can go just underneath 1 k Rpm, when you find a sweet Spot.

Here's what i have made ... Half an Hour Work. Used 5 mm Steel to extend the Vise Grip. If i'd do it again, i would make the Angles on the Extension better fitting, but it works very good.

Nice Dan, very nice ... Open the Fake Tank Cover and let the Airbox stick outside. Don't tinker with the Airbox, as it will hurt the Airflow through the Intake and you loose Torque. Best would be, you mount the smaller Battery Box from a Vmax, a 17 AH Battery and the Vmax Airbox for better Airflow. But as a 1st Step the Venture Parts will do well. How do you plan to operate the V-Boost Valves ? With a Vmax Servo Motor and the Vmax Blackbox ?

I'd say it depends on your Riding Style. If you take Twiesties harder and scrape the Pegs every now and then or regularily and may have some uneven Road ahead, you may have Problems with mixed Brands or Types of Tires. If your easy on the Twisties and ride more the upright Style or Highways, no Problems.

It's Time for resoldering the CMS Board. Ccheck the Process out, it should be documented in the Tech Library. -
In Case you have ruled out everything else, you could contact DonB, i think he remanufactures the TCI Units
-
I don't know if you have seen this, but there are two Postings about TCI in the Library http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10640 http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15135

Hi, i can't imagine your TCI going south just while you're changing Oil and Filters. Did you check the Fuses ? Check the red/white Wires on each Spark Coil on the yellow Connectors for having +12 Volts against Ground. There should be the same Voltage as your Battery provides.

Are you this crazy..........................

Well, i sat my Foot into the Dettifoss, the biggest Water in Europe(actually it's in Iceland), right next to the Edge, but i don't know if would swim there at the Victoria Falls. -
Yes Dan, that's a STRIKE !!! You could have catched me on the wrong Foot way earlier, just, you didn't ask the right Questions ... :innocent-emoticon::innocent-emoticon: (btw, came home from the first Test Ride just an Hour ago, not too bad Result on that and the Clutch on the Max is done also)

Well, i got it mixed up. The Wire is INSIDE the the Rotor Bolt. Since BJ only changed the Stator, he doesn't need to undo this Bolt and therefore, no Wire shows up. The Bolt has to be dismounted when the Starter Clutch Assembly comes to a change. I'm sorry for causing some Confusion.
-
Carl, i think you have either a minor Vacuum Leak or there's a lean Conditon in the Carbs. A missing O-Ring on a Daiphragm Bowl could probbably also cause this.
-
I recently opened 2 Engines and they didn't have that Wire either.. I was astonished first, but then ... Oh well, it's a Yammi Thing.

Now i understand ... The Lash depends on what Gear is selected. But basically this sound not bad. The Lash comes from the Dogs of the Gears. -

I never tried the magnet Thing either, but the Drive Shaft(inbound Tranny Axle) through which the Rods go, is definitely Steel. -
Hi, first you have to ensure that there is proper Signal from the Coils. Pull the Connector as George mentioned clean and then and measure them for Resistance of the Pickup Coils as the Manual states. If you have no manual, you can download it from a Member here, the Links are in the 1Gen Tech Section. If the Resistances on both Pickup Coils check out good, you should check those 5 Wires on the Connector Side to the TCI for Continuity or, if the Connector is in Place, the Resistances should read the same. If this checks out fine, you can check if you have +12 Volt on both of the R/W Wires at the yellow Connectors of the rear Spark Coils against Ground. If this Checks out fine, the TCI is bad. If you could blame Humidity or Water, you could open the Cover of the TCI and place the TCI in the Oven at 140° F for 6 Hours. If this doesn't work out, an other TCI is in Order.

1. Pull the small PushRod out of the Axle, you might wiggle a bit, because there's a O-Ring on that. Then place a small Tube inside the Axle and use a MightyVac aor something else to produce some Vacuum and pull the Ball out, then again pull the long Rod out. Watch out for the Ends on the long Rod. These are different and the the more flatter Side has to get against the Ball. 2. I don't understand. There should be no Free Play in any mechanical Connections. What does "it" refer to ? -
I wouldn't mess with these old Calipers anymore. Costs of the Parts are high and the whole Job is ..... well, not nice and very Time consumptive. My Suggestion would be, buy some used 'blue Star' Calipers off a R1/R6/FJR and be one happy Camper. For Instance ... http://cgi.ebay.com/2001-YZF1000R-R1-1000-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPERS-CALIPER_W0QQitemZ130219025476 You can mount a right R1-Caliper at the rear of the '87. If you like, you can even dislink the Brakes while doing so. Steel Braided Brake Lines are obligate if the Lines haven't been replaced in the past. Regarding the Rotor, there isn't anything technical against using a rf Rotor on the left Front. It's only Question of the Optics.

I sincerly second Jack's Statement, on both Issues !!

Well, that's one of the new Features Don installed with the Software Update ... The Site senses those who have a huge Worklist on the Bike. So, once you're not at Sleep, Work or working on the Bike, you're only allowed for a maximum of 30 Minutes per Day and researching Tech Threads. This Feature is so sensitive, it even recognizes your Need for extended Research Time if you onto different technical Issues and extends your Time to 2.5 Hours per Day at most. Social networking during this Mode is preset to only 5 Minutes per Session/Day .... Oh, yes i got locked out also ... :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

Side Stand Switch and Switches on the right Handlebar would be my first suspicious. Why ? Because Rain and as well as Water from Washing will get easy to both and can corrupt proper Function. It doesn't take long to dry out and then it's back in Service. Ignition Box is under Hood and Water from would be hard to reach there.
