  1. I hate to be the one to through a wet blanket on this but I think you should leave this one alone and look for something else. Several problems that I see If you are planning on hauling 4 heavy bikes then the total weight will be higher than you think With just the bikes and no additional gear the payload weight will exceed 6,000 lbs and could easy exceed 10,000 lbs. plus the weight of the trailer it's self you could have a gross weight in the 12,000lbs range. There is no information on the axle rating. This is a converted boat trailer. Most boat trailers only come with 3,000 to 3,500 lbs axles. With 2 axles together that only gives you 7,000lbs gross weight far less than what you need to safely handle the load you plan on hauling. The trailer only has brakes on 1 axle while some states only require brakes on 1 axle for light trailers Other states like PA. require brakes on all axles on any trailer over 3,000lbs, with good reason when you get into the hills and mountains you will need the additional braking capacity. You will want all the braking capacity you can get when you have to a panic stop. The weight distribution on this trailer is all wrong it looks like you have about 80% of the weight on the hitch and 20% on the wheels. Standard distribution trailers are 30% on the hitch 70% on the wheels some go even higher on the wheels. This trailer configuration will make the trailer unstable on the road and put a lot of extra weight on the towing vehicle hitch. Another thing to consider I have looked at a lot of motor homes over the last few years and I have not found one that the towing hitch receiver is rated over 5,000lbs gross weight again far less than you need to tow 4 big bikes. These hitches are designed to tow a small car with a weight of about 2,000lbs I know that we all see motor homes towing large trailers all the time but what happens when there is a problem. I thin the last thing you want to see in you rearview mirror going down the road with $80,000 worth of bikes on a trailer is to hit a bump and see the trailer come apart because it over loaded. Or worse to do a panic stop and the trailer jack knifes and comes around and hits the side of you $120,000 motor home maybe totaling both or killing somebody. It's not worth it get the right trailer with the right hitch and the right tow vehicle and everybody will be safer. We all share the road and I may be the one beside you when you lose control of the trailer. Here's what can happen with even a slight mistake towing from what i understand he was only doing about 40 on a slight grade dry road. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fkey5jyr49zkkom/AAAYgPZEgRmp58tQhWj-d7Eaa I wish you well and hope everybody stays safe on the road
  2. Earl I haven' t been on in a while and I just found out about Jean. My best thoughts and wishes to you and Jean. I will be praying for you both. Do what the doctors say and you can recover. Take it from someone that's been there and made it back. If there is anything I can do let me know. Keep us posted Gary
  3. There is no reserve on my 83 Vin 101 no lever either just a square head with a slot. I even ordered a replacement to get the leaver didn't happen, the only thing I did get was the screen. it's a pain to turn it off to change the filter i have to use a wrench. Gary
  4. Friends I normally don't post here much but I do enjoy hanging out here and catching up on all gossip and I like to think of all you as friends. Some of you may remember I posted here some time back for you good thoughts and prayers for my grandson William while he was in the hospital. For those good thoughts and prayers I am truly thankful. he pulled through that stay and was doing great in fact better than ever. Sadly god called him home in November 2011. It was unexpected and rough time for all of us. His last few days were the best he ever had in his short 14 years for that we are grateful and at least now he is at rest and no more pain from repeated operations and hospital stays. That said the reason I am on here again is another good thoughts and prayers request for Williams older brother David. David signed up and joined the marines, graduated boot camp last august. It was his choice and he has no regrets in fact he is enjoying it, if it makes him happy I and the whole family are happy for him and support him anyway we can. David was stationed at Marine Camp Pendleton he came home in August for a short 2 week leave to be with the family and to get married. He returned to Camp Pendleton the first week of September to be deployed to Afghanistan. As of yesterday or today he is boots on the ground in Afghanistan. He minimizes the risk when he talks to the family but I know and I think that all of you folks that have served or have family that have served in that area know that he is in fact in harm's way. There is not a day that I don't think about him the first thing when I get up in the morning and the last thing before I go to sleep at night. He is where he wants to be and I am happy for him. He scheduled to be there until May 2014 but we all know that that could change at any time. He has 3 more years on this enlistment so he could be deployed for a 2nd tour some ware again. So I am asking those of you that are so inclined, to remember him in your thoughts and prayers to keep him safe and bring him home to his family. I thank each and every one of you for your prayers
  5. I would check the frame, my 83 did the same thing on me. I was on ride and it kept getting lower and lower when I got home took it apart found the cross member on the frame cracked allowed the back frame to roll up to the point that the mud flap was dragging on the road with just me on.I took it apart pulled it back into place welded it up reinforced it a little no problem since That was before I found this site and learned about the weak frame on the early bikes. Their is a Thread about it here someplace. Good Luck
  6. My son has a .22 Hornet what are you looking for empty cases, reloads or what and yes it ts a center fire reloadable
  7. Try this Guy I contacted him some time ago and quoted me a good price on a slider way below all the dealers. At that time is was $65 each SMorrisRN@aol.com if you try to clean them do not usethe new soak carb cleaner, use clean gas only the newer carb cleaners react badly with the metals in the older carbs and could give you problems. Gary
  8. Here's a Link that may help explain the differance if ot were me I would stay with DOT4 i talked to brake manufacture and they said to stay with the DOT4 unless you plan on fulshing the system every month or so DOT 5 was designed to be changed often. http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/cows-brakefluid.html Gary
  9. Actually the serial number is 101 as shown in the service manual and confirmed from the factory records, they have records of the original owners starting at # 174. there are no records before that. How do I know its still on the road, because its in my shed waiting for me to take it for ride.
