  3. Dan- Glad you could fix your problem without having to change out the stator. What do you think about a breakfast M & E on Oct 11th. After I wouldn't mind taking a look at the new V-Star 950. Dave
  4. Great Brandy!! Keep pushing them so those in your state can have the benefits they provide. Dave
  5. Brandy- PM sent - hope it helps Dave
  6. Great to see a big smile on your daughters face!! Glad they could raise your spirits today. You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Dave & Jan
  7. Allen- Painting plastic has some differences from metal. First, do you have any raw plastic that will need to be painted. If so, they make a product that you spray on to promote adhesion of your paint to the plastic. Primer is not necessary on plastic. You can go directly to your paint. You don't need to sand off the clearcoat but you can get a pad that is designed to rough the surface before painting. Nicks - if they are small, you can use a coat of clearcoat to fill them in and smooth the surface before applying your color. Prep is the key - many times I've heard that prep is the key. Many things can effect the paint and it's ability to adhere. Your local auto body supply store will have a surface cleaner that you want to use just before painting to remove any dirt etc (even the oil from your hands). Taping off - If you are not painting an entire piece make sure to tape off the surrounding areas to 1- prevent overspray and 2- so you have an area to spray onto so that you don't start and stop spraying within the desired paint area Best of luck on you project and don't forget the pics!! Dave
  8. Mine was damaged so I purchased and AT keyboard extender cord and cut off what I didn't need and wired it in as a pigtail plugin Dave
  9. Al- What is your timetable and route planned to go home. If your coming through SLC, stop in and say hello, grab a bite to eat and rest (or sleep) for a while. Dave:banana:
  10. I've always wondered what an RSV would look like in a kilt:rotfl::rotfl: Don't forget the pics!! Dave
  11. David, it sounds like you've got the battery part of your problem figured out. The surging or delayed reaction to your throttle may be that you're lugging the engine. I'm usually in 3rd gear going 45-50 mph. As many have mentioned and taught me here, these bikes like the upper range of the tach, usually 4000 rpms or more. Once you get your new battery installed, take some rides and see how she rides if you keep your rpms higher. I think you'll find it running and responding better. As was mentioned, syncing the bike may also help if you haven't done so. You may also be dealing with some fouled plugs. Dave
  12. Glad you got it working!! 8mm - isn't that what I said? Ride safe! Dave
  13. If your cassette player doesn't work at all, you can remove it and connect an 3.5mm port into the system with a switch to turn it on & off. I've attached the schematic that I was given here on the site. You knew someone could make it more complicated!! See the following thread for more info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21667 Dave
  14. Bubba - this is the same problem Bob Myers had while visiting SLC last month. Even though you've put fresh fluid in the master cylinder the fluid in the line is probably old and has degraded. Bleeding the line is simple but having an extra pair of hands is nice. I think the bleeder valve is a 10mm. We took an 18" long piece of clear tubing and hooked it to the valve, I would compress the clutch handle, Bob released the valve releasing a bit of fluid and then tightened it back up, I would release the handle and then repeated the process again. We caught the fluid in a mason jar so we could see its condition. Once we got to were we thought the line had new fluid throughout, we emptied the jar and bleed a little more just to make sure the fluid was clean. Didn't take long and the clutch worked great as we enjoyed a nice little test ride. FYI - the tubing I had was something for a swamp cooler I had held on to and really helped keep the bike clean. Dave
  15. I run the Metzlers ME880's on my '86 and have had not problems with 7500 miles on them. Others here have had the tires breakdown. My son runs Avons and likes them so next go round, I'll probably go that route just to be safe. You don't want tire troubles when you only have two. Dave
  16. Allen- I look forward to the pics after your done. You're right about the color scheme. I have the same paint and love the look. I repainted my trunk a while ago and went through the process of having the paint matched. The paint codes are listed in the thread I did after I finished painting: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8492 The codes matched well but not exactly but I've never had anyone notice. Hope it's helpful. Dave:thumbsup2:
  17. Venturejockey - If the old cable is male/female 5PIN DIN, the old AT type keyboard extention cords work well as replacement (or if one end is hardwired). If you can't find one there, we have a local supplier that stocks them here for about $7.00. Dave
  18. Allen- I don't have any pics with me here at work but the idle screw is on the left side. Locate the sync screw. Then look behind the sync screw from an underneath position. The idle screw is pointing down and and is a thumb screw type and can be adjusted without any tools, just your fingers. Mine was brass colored if I remember correctly and has slight notches all around the outside for grip. Good luck on your adjustment!! Dave
  19. Great article. Years ago while driving in a severe snow storm, my wife reminded me "that we have all day to get there alive". Whenever I feel anxious to drive excessively, I try to remember that phrase. Dave
  20. Gary - Our prayers are with you and your family. Dave & Jan
  21. Tom- I hope you didn't miss out of seeing Delicate or Landscape Arches. They are both spectacular, but do require some hiking. Dave
  22. I agree with Bummer - hit Beartooth Pass!! There is an elevation sign at the top with the elevation for a great picture. Also, just before you go into Yellowstone, you'll pass though the Lamar Valley. Lots of buffalo there, just be cautious. Dave
  23. Bob - We're glad you're home safe. Now it must be back to the salt mines for ya. I hope we get to visit again. Dave, Jan & boys!!
  24. Paul- Best wishes and fast recovery to your niece. There will be more rides to come and Meat-n-Eats as well. Keep in touch and we'll get together soon. Dave
  25. I have bought a part from Pinwall. Other than a delay in shipping, which they corrected by sending is overnight, they were helpful and good to deal with. Dave
