  1. I installed a J & M 584 headset in my wife's EXO900 and it works great. I removed the left cheek pad and installed the boom mic then modified the pad to allow for the mic. It wasn't hard at all. You do have to open/shut the helmet jaw as the flap that reduces the air flow into the helmet around the chin will catch the boom on the mic. Dave
  2. You're right...leave the vent open at least one notch. The larger shield can cause a void behind it. The vent will allow enough air to flow through and eliminate the void. Enjoy the shield!! Dave
  3. Try this link: http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm
  4. Dean- Sounds like you have a pretty good feel for the Venture and you're already addressing the weak spots. Fuse Holder - the glass holders tend to weaken over time. Changing to the ATC type with solve that. Carb Sync - always a good thing to do! It is always a good thing to run a tank or two of fuel through the bike treated with Sea Foam to help clean the carbs and then re-sync. Valve - they are adjusted by shims (don't know personally, but that's what I've read) Plastic - can be repaired using a number of methods. I use ABS glue on the crack and then support it on the inside with fiberglass. Older paint is hard (impossible) to find but most paint stores do a good job of matching. Battery - the probe you see connects to the CMU and will show an issue with the battery on the display. If you have to replace the battery, you can go to battery without a probe hole (such as an AGM type) and with a resistor you can fix the battery indicator. Welcome to the site and good luck with a great bike!! Dave
  5. We love Dave and Kathy and miss them. Thanks for the update and for sharing our love and prayers with him during your visit. Dave & Jan:bighug:
  6. Have a wonderful trip Paul (Pegasus 1300/1500) Take some great pics!! Dave (The Jealous One)
  7. I'm on my third Metzler 880 on the '86 and will be installing another this year. I get about 12000 on a rear and twice that on the front. Good luck!
  8. I Pick North!!
  9. Tony- If you don't find someone close to help with the carb sync. Spend the money and order a sync tool from Morgan. You'll make your money back over paying a dealer in doing it yourself the second time (maybe the first) you use. I was hesitant to do it too. But you've done more on your bike than I had on mine. The 1st Gens are easy to do....connect four hoses, set the idle up, adjust the three sync screw, reset the idle to spec ..... go RIDE!! Lots of us to help walk you through it the first time. Dave
  10. If you don't find anyone, take a ride over to SLC and we'll do yours while we do mine. Dave
  11. How much preload did you have?
  12. Jeff- Here's a link for you. It's about 2/3 the way down the page. http://www.claysradioshop.com/acc_antennamounts-brackets.htm Good Luck! Dave
  13. I wish I could have!! Off the plane, drive to Eden Prairie, have meeting, back to airport to catch plane home. Real fun time in Mpls!! I promise to be better next time!
  14. I flew home Tuesday with a business stop in Minneapolis. While waiting in the airport I noticed that the motorcycle cops there had found a way to prevent PMS during the winter. I guess when you live where weather really restricts your riding time, you have to do something. I just wonder how many motorists he actually catches.....:whistling:
  15. Jeff- Looks like the mount for the CB antenna. You can purchase a replacement mount (assuming the antenna itself is compatible) and put a PL-259 connector on the cable and be good to go again. Be sure and match the new configuration with an SWR meter. Also make sure the verify you lug isn't grounded. We don't want you to damage your CB Dave
  16. Robert- Keep after your insurance company. They will help get your bike repaired but will look to you to pay your deductible. So you will be out that amount while they subrogate with the trucking company's insurance. They may look at the amount and decide it doesn't make financial sense to pursuit at which time you'll need to point out that they need to reimburse you if they don't want to fight for your money. Dave
  17. Great backrest! I did add a nut to the adjustment screw, mine kept loosening as I rode. Fixed the issue and I love it. Dave
  18. While they're making RSV's and leaving them outside.......I want one! Dave
  19. I lost my headlight on my '86 on the last day of the Cody rally last year. Everything seem to check out at first. When I got home I found that the fuse holder (on the side after the fuse) had broken. It visually looked fine but wasn't making good contact. When I went to remove the fuse, half of the holder fell off. It was time to do the fuse box upgrade. I had the parts, just hadn't taken the time. Made the complete change out in about 30 min. If you're checking power using a meter, check power at the wire after the fuse, not just the fuse itself. Dave
  20. Getting ready to head out for an afternoon ride. Helmet - check Jacket - check Gloves - check Sunglasses - check Chaps - check Now where did I put my floppy eared slippers........:rotf:
  21. Jan loves her Scorpion EXO 900 Dave
  22. You may have knocked the obstruction loose on the float (at least you know which one it is now). Run some more seafoam through it and you could be just fine. Maybe drain the float bowl a couple of time and it may flush out there. I usually get to 125-130 when the reserve light comes on. I run with the valve in the reserve position, so I don't know if it's still on the main or into the reserve. When I fill up it's about 4.3 gallons. Dave
  23. I've had the same fun you guys have had. I wait until I get to the window and tell them the amount is wrong and make them fix it. If they want me to pay more for something, ask me! Don't use a bait and switch tactic!! I don't even go to Arctic Circle any more because of it and I let their home office know it. Dave
  24. Each carb has an overflow drain tube. If you have something (crud) not allowing the float to function properly, you are probably getting overflow when the bike is running. The overflow tubes run down and come out by the center stand, in front of the rear wheel. There may be 4 tubes or all joined into one tube. Sometime a few sharp taps on carbs with the handle of a screwdriver will break it loose, I finally had to give a short blast of air back up through the drain line. (watch out for the fuel that sprays up through the air cleaner!!) I haven't had an issue since. Dave
  25. Dane has some incredible talent there! Great job. Dave
