  1. Do the Progressives anyway. They are great alone but work well with the CLASS. Plus, you need the CLASS for the rear shock. I put my in this evening in about an hour. Dave
  2. Is it where someone could go check it out for you, Jack?
  3. A carb rebuild cleared the problem except with one of the carbs. A short/sharp blast of compressed air back through the overflow tube, dislodged whatever remained in the float valve seat and I haven't had a problem since. Got the suggestion right here on VR.org. Thanks!!
  4. when we've got a long, fun ride coming up. Two years ago, when our local riding group was heading to Boise for a rally, she took the opportunity to demand a little extra attention. She started spitting fuel from the overflow. After a few attempts to fix the issue on the bike, I came time to install the spare set. I enjoyed the ride the put the original (rebuilt) set back on. All good! Time for another rally, this time in St. George where we can ride Zions Natl Park, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, etc. She's starting to insist on some extra attention..... new tires, front and rear, brake pads all around. Got the new tires on yesterday....nice ride improvement. Today I put in the new rear pads and then moved to the front (right) brakes. All was going well until one of the four pistons wouldn't press back in. I tried everything I could, clamps, water pump pliers.... lucky to have a spare caliper, so, I switched them out. Installed the new pads and bled the line. All is good. Time to go spend a week riding in just a couple of weeks.
  5. I replaced tires today on my '86 and need to do brakes next. This is my question. Do you replace the pads with the calipers in place or do you remove them from the mount/rotors? Dave
  6. this is my fourth year with the extra tall/extra wide (with vent) Clearview Windshield. They are well built and work as advertised. It is an investment to say the least but well worth it.
  7. Jan and I had a wonderful day on the bikes! We rode with a group today and made the loop around the Great Salt Lake. We rode 425 miles today with stops at Promontory Point National Historical Site. Then on to Wendover, Nevada and had a great buffet dinner at the Rainbow Casino. We reached some milestones along the way. Jan broke in her new tire, in a big way. She showed some increased confidence in the corners, after her accident a couple of years ago. Also, Jan eclipsed 10K on her Sportster, all but 900 miles by her. Beautiful day!
  8. I've seen just the top part at a couple of different truck stops.
  9. All of the graphics, both branding and scrolls, were hand (freehand) striped at the Rat Fink Reunion in Manti last June. Frank is very talented! I told him what I wanted, showed him what the original stick on logos looked like and he did the rest. Dave
  10. Here's a link to the bike we repainted for Quickstep & Aussie Annie before their trip last year. After the repair and paint job, we had the bike pinstripped. http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Alans%2084%20Rebuild/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ20 The pics are in reverse order plus some from a ride/bbq we had. Dave
  11. Here's a variation Sam and I came up with last night.
  12. I found a set of Continental on tireexpress.com pretty good prices. What kind of mileages are you getting with these?
  13. I'd be interested. Are they the same diameter as the handlebars? What would the estimated value be? Dave
  14. They look great Bob. Are they the same diameter as the handlebars? How much would it take to purchase a set (longer version)?
  15. Used the MC lift last night/today and put new tires on Jan's 08 Sportster. It works great. With this tool, I was able to do the work (remove & replace) without having to have an extra set of hands. Thanks again for sharing this deal!! PS - For those who indicate that the lift lowers to quickly. If you step on the release and hold it all the way to the bottom, it lowers slowly. Half way down and it lowers quickly. I know, I know, that is backwards from how I would want it too. Dave
  16. Thanks for sharing. Their current ad has the same thing for 99.99. You just saved me $30.00! Dave
  17. You can easily spend a full day at each Arches and at Zions. You likely won't see everything but you'll see enough to want to plan a trip to visit on a later trip. On your way from Moab (Arches) to Springdale (Zions) you can also take the short side trip to Bryce Canyon. It's really not much out of the way and can be enjoyed with just a short stop over. Dave
  18. Quickstep (Aussie Annie's other half), got an '84 and with some minor upkeep took it on an 8000 plus ride last summer. I know he did some regular maint as he went along, like tires etc and had a great time. Dave
  19. When are you going to be in Arches??? While there take the 30 mile ride and see Dead Horse Point. Great view!! You may recognize it from Thelma and Louise. Dave
  20. Do you just strap one to each foot and go.......... Dave
  21. you might be running a touch rich?
  22. CLASS refers to the air suspension system. I also ride an '86 that I bought in 2005 for $2800.00 with 72K on the meter. I had some paint things to do and have had to clean the carbs but now have another 30K on it. The $3500 seems a little high to me but sounds like he wants to recoup the costs of the farkles. Add some Seafoam to the tank and ride it hard on the way home. Will clear up most of your carb issues. Dave
  23. Here's a couple of pics- You do need to hollow out the foam a little so the ear pieces don't bother the ears. You also need to notch the chin pad to allow the boom mic to not push the pad outward. Good Luck!! Dave
  24. Yep. That will work! It's part of the Performance Series at J&M. I have friends that use them but I prefer the higher quality of the Elite Series Dave
  25. Ray- Glad you're enjoying the bike. The idle screw (see above) is on the left side and is a thumb screw that it pointing downward. If you kneel down and look up behind the sync screw and carb bowl drain tubes. The maint book says between 900 - 1100 is the right setting when warm. If you add lights, per Bob's directions, watch your volt meter. The stator has a limited output and if you overwhelm it, you'll end up with a dead battery. I like the idea of painting the light bezel bright white. I also run my rear tier at 40-42 and the shock around 40. Dave
