  1. Congrats on the 100K! Here's wishing you see this many more times. Ya gotta love the liquid cooled bikes. They are like a Timex powered by the energizer bunny. It just keeps going and going and going and......
  2. It was a VERY HOT ride home but a fun road trip on a new toy anyway . Trailers belong BEHIND a bike not UNDER one ! (Unless the bike is broke down) Yep already swaped the antennas.
  3. Picked up a 2006 and rode it home from Oklahoma today http://i45.tinypic.com/2qixkja.jpg
  4. It's been a few years but last time I looked the sign was still the way it was years ago when i took this pic. I do like the "add-ons" in your pic better http://i49.tinypic.com/3djjc.jpg
  5. I've been through some strong winds with my big trailer and never noticed the trailer was back there. I do hear the exhaust a bit when in the throttle hard but it's not bad(RK muff's). http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx250/C-M_Motorsports/Trailer1.jpg
  6. EXACTLY my way of thinking and how I did mine.
  7. Has no one ENJOYED the kill switch where it's located?! That little switch has brought me many laughs over the years. When riding behind a experienced riding friend and no traffic behind you, Wait untill you get the feeling they are really entranced by the ride and scenery and not really paying attention to you behind them. Then you fly up on their right side and reach over and hit their kill switch. It takes them a moment to figure out what the heck just happened.... I've been on both ends of this little trick. Just remember it needs to be a good friend with a great sense of humor and a very good rider who you know and trust won't panic as well.
  8. I always break the plug loose with a socket, remove the socket and slide a rubber hose over the end of the plug and unscrew the plug. I slip the hose over the new plug and start the threads with the hose then use the socket to finish tightening. Makes it almost impossible to cross thread using the hose.
  9. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you! My dream job would be to work for the manufacturers as a test rider and report my likes/dislikes and how many miles I could rack up on their touring bikes before a failure. As a side job,I could work for the camping gear companies and test their equipment while testing the bikes.
  10. Good lookin bikes and paint!
  11. I'll be glad when it cools back down to the 90's. I ride 7/365 and the triple digit temps plus the heat off of my Kawasaki Voyager(beater/commuter bike) has given me a heat rash on both lower legs.
  12. Welcome to the forum and welcome to the Venture! For it to have a lot of miles on it........ Must have over 300,000 otherwise it's still in the break in stage.
  13. Thanks for the heads up! Just what I was looking for and about 1/2 price of a new one. Now to find some H-3 lights.....Maybe the Hella 500's([ame=http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-5750941-12-Volt-55-Watt-Halogen/dp/B001TWD5GY]Amazon.com: HELLA 5750941 500FF Series 12-Volt/55-Watt Halogen Driving Lamp Kit (Fun Cubed): Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Xg6gmYR8L.@@AMEPARAM@@51Xg6gmYR8L[/ame]) I have a H-3 HID conversion kit from my old Goldwing so Night will turn to day.
  14. I've got the fancier stereo in my shop. It has a 8 track, cassette AND record player on top!
  15. The risers are solid aluminum. There should be NO flex!!! I would make sure the bolts are tight and not broken before I even left the driveway.
  16. I have a Clearview on my RSV and like it. I had a Clearview on one of my Goldwings and I flew through it when I T-Boned a car that turned in front of me. I can tell you from first hand experience that the Clearview had lots of sharp points and edges after it was punctured by my face then body flying through it.
  17. Just remember unless you have a identical twin to tell you it's a good seat or not, it won't mean much as we are all different. I was all set to spend the big $$ for a Russel seat and then found after my first long trip that the factory non pillow top seat works just fine for me. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure if a certain seat will be what you are looking for is to try one.
  18. As always, Craigslist cost me some more $$ today. Saw a simple ad for "cargo trailer" in the motorcycle section, clicked and it read "Shoreline cargo trailer. Works well". No pictures in the ad, no phone # but I sent a e-mail for more info and sent my phone #. I forgot about the ad then later this morning I get a call from the guy. I asked what kind of shape it was in and he said.....Well it has a few chips in the paint in the front from being towed and a small scuff in the paint on a back corner. I'm thinkin....wouldn't it be great if that were the ONLY issues?! I got the directions and headed over to look at it. It turns out he bought it new in 1981, used it gently for a few years then it sat in his barn "for a looooong time". His description was right on! When he first bought it he didn't like the short tongue and the way it towed and he wanted to get the ice chest out of the inside for more room so he made a new 1 piece tongue, added a rack for the ice chest, made a insulated cover for the ice chest then decided to build a rear bumper and have it chromed. He also said there were some problems with the wiring when it was new and instead of laying on the ground to work on the wiring,he built a really neat stand that slides under the trailer hooking on to the axle and rear frame section. Once the stand is under the trailer, you simply pick up the tongue and the trailer rolls on to the back and is VERY sturdy. This makes it a breeze to check the wiring, pack the bearings etc. He had the trailer stored on end in the barn for years. This demo of the stand gave me a good opportunity to inspect the bottom of the fiberglass and frame etc. Anyway, the fiberglass is in like new condition, the original paint is still in pretty good shape(good enough to use as is) and he included a chrome swivel hitch, the stand, the ice chest and cover and 2 new unmounted tires. It cost me about as much as a new HF tagalong would have but The Shoreline is built much better IMO. So far my only plans are to change out the bulbs for LEDs,clean, inspect and pack the bearings, mount new tires and change the plug out to one that will hook to my bike. I couldn't resist and took it to town, loaded up 80 pounds of dog food and a weeks worth of groceries and it pulled fine. I haven't had time to clean the barn dust off yet but it don't look too bad............ http://i47.tinypic.com/30139ea.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/1zoak95.jpg
  19. Never put a switch on mine. I do wait about 5 seconds after turning on the key before I hit the starter button.
  20. MikeM

    Topless!

Shame you can't take the doors off and still have the side mirrors like on the older models. I had a chance to get a older Jeep but then realized when the weather is nice enough to ride with no doors or top, I would be on the bike anyway.
  21. My first experience with HID was when I converted a set of 4" spotlights to use as aux driving lights on a old goldwing. When the 55w H-3 Kit arrived there were two different bulbs in the kit. One marked 5000K (what I ordered)and the other 6000K. I contacted the seller and he thought it might be a mistake in marking on the tubes the bulbs came in and for me to try them and see. I did and the bulbs were different. The 6000K seemed to have a slight blue tint compared to the 5000k BUT, what I noticed was the 6000K made the deer and feral hogs show up farther away and clearer than the 5000K. That was enough for me and I swapped the 5000k for another 6000k. I liked the HID lights so much I ordered a 6000k bi-xenon H4 car kit and a extra wire harness (cheaper than two motorcycle kits)and converted the headlights on both the goldwing and the RSV. I didn't have to modify the rubber boot on either bike. I didn't put a switch inline and if I hit the starter as soon as I turn on the bike, sometimes the headlight will go out. I found if I turn on the bike then wait about 5 seconds before I hit the starter that everything is fine. I think it's a combination of the power draw when the balast are starting up and the draw from the starter that causes the draw to be too much and the HID system shuts down.
  22. Lots of GREAT lookin bikes!!
  23. I had a short that turned out to be OUTSIDE THE FAIRING but the wires ran in to the fairing. Everytime I wiggled the connections inside the fairing things started to work. I would put everything back together and the short would show up again. I zip tied everything and thought I finally had it to no avail. I finally found the short in the switch box on the master cylinder. Must have had the fairing apart 15 times that weekend. I now have no fear taking the fairing apart since I could probably do it with my eyes closed. That means I'll probably never have to take it apart again.
  24. Mine were off when I bought it. No noise or problems and I think it looks better without them. http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx250/C-M_Motorsports/Forum%20Use/029.jpg
  25. The Royal Stars do have a strong appeal don't they? I was thinking it would be a really nice fair weather bike. Between my "beater" goldwing(soon to be outside), My RSV, My wife's "Beater" 750 Vulcan and her "sweetie" 650 V Star Silverado, the shop is pretty full. I still may have to figure out how to slip one more bike in there somehow.I know it's impossible to have too many toys but it is possible to have too small a shop. This one looks like it could be fun....http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/2900215006.html but I'll have to wait till I get another RSV before I can start stuffing ol' piggy for another bike.
