  1. OK Buddy, since I live in Va I don't believe Texas is in my area this weekend. I have a set of HD's that I drilled out as far as I know how. I believe they call it stage 4. Exactly what did you do with your stock mufflers? I need loud but too dang tight to buy. You can e-mail me if you prefer. Thanks. Spotsy
  2. Sorry to hear about the ticket. Good luck with whatever you decide. In Va., I talked with one of the Motorcycle Cops at a demo on Biker Sunday. Was happy to show me and let me use the Laser Gun. Pretty neat thing, even has the cross hairs and he was right, it will pick up a car in the left lane and a bike in the right lane. I would say it's pretty accurate. He had been using it for over two years. Two things I learned from that discussion. He doesn't start writing until 10 over and he's never had one thrown out of court like the old style. Of course, that was one person in one County in Va. Like I said and others have, it's a crap shoot. Good luck with the decision and outcome. BTW, don't forget to let us know the outcome. This group always needs something to stir the pot and it'll be at your expense. That's a given. LOL Spotsy
  3. Heck Duke, we live so close and we never seem to see each other. You doing ok? Spotsy
  4. Well, I have 14K on my Met's and no chunking on this set however I picked up a nail Saturday. The new set of Avon's in the garage are going on. I did go with the smaller front tire however from what I read since I bought them I'm wondering if that was a good decision. I guess time will tell. Spotsy
  5. I live out near Lake Anna and ride a 99. Rider Duke lives RT 3 West and rides a 04. Spotsy
  6. We went to Freedom Fest this weekend and put about 7 and a quarter on the clock. Had a great time and this was our 4th year. Not sure what happened but there were 3 times more bikes this year than in the past. Weather was good the whole time and it was tough leaving there this morning in the 60's and as we got closer to Fredericksburg this afternoon it was 95 or so. What a realitity check? We made our way up to Black Water Falls Park on Friday and the roads were great everywhere we went. I did see one 05 (I'm guessing) Silver Venture on the road and a 99 to 01 two tone green on Saturday as they pulled through the Exxon lot at the vendors and kept on going. I was going to walk over and see if he was a member. Oh well, maybe next time. I did have one minor issue with the bike not wanting to start. I checked the battery and sure enough there was the gray looking film on the cable. Cleaned it the best I could with the knife and that solved the problem. So when you're doing your maintenance don't forget to shine up those cables. Hope everyone has a good week. Spotsy
  7. Thanks to all that responded. I think we have decided to go over RT33 and may stop around the Rocks and come back through Goshen Pass. I believe that's the way the wind is blowing in the morning. Have a good rest of the week everyone. Spotsy
  8. We are heading to Snowshoe again this year next weekend. Looking for places of interest. We have been to Cass Railroad, Greenbank, New River Bridge and several other places. We always ride Rt 150 as well. What's north of Snowshoe heading up Rt 219? What else is in the area to check out? Thanks. Spotsy
  9. You can go here and they will send you a map. You can get a regular map and scenic map. Most of the roads on that map are great. Sperryville area has some good riding roads. Keep us informed. http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/maps-default.asp Spotsy
  10. Don, I was hoping that I could catch up with Duke and tag along at the last minute. I certainly enjoyed meeting the group at the Williamsburg Meet and Greet. Everything was falling into place until last Tuesday and it appears I must have cracked a rib or something so there is no riding for me for a few weeks. It's hard enough getting in and out of a car. You never know how much you use something until it hurts. LOL One day I'll get to meet you. I hope everyone has a good visit and please no pics of any Venture's doing the back stroke. I remember seeing all the talk about the leaf vac taking a swim. :-) Spotsy
  11. Highway, I was up on the Skyline Drive several weeks ago. They are working on the road during the week. The person at the gate was telling me how rough it was. It was not that bad. It's between Rt 33 and Rt 211. A few dug out places with some gravel but they are short, maybe 100 feet was the longest at that time. No problems on the bike. During the week you may have some delays because I believe it was down to one lane while they work. Unless it's worse don't sweat it because it's still a beautifull ride. Have fun. Sposty
  12. I stand corrected. Thanks. I was always told 40 just never bothered looking at the manual. :-) Spotsy
  13. I believe the rear shock calls for a max of (corrected 57 PSI). When the wife and I ride I usually have mine around 30 to 35 and that seems to work well. If you have never been to Thunder and you are moving up to a Venture, make sure you ride it around in some parking lot's at home to get use to the extra weight at slow speeds. There is usually a fair amount of stop and go but the feeling of being there is great. As long as you're fairly comfortable at slow speeds you will not have any problems. Have your son ready with the camera, you'll get some great shots there. Spotsy
  14. Good luck Roadkill. We're with you. Spotsy
  15. Thanks Squidley, that's what I thought. Spotsy
  16. Well I'm confused now. I have HD mufflers and I drilled the center out with the 1" and something bit. Can't remember the exact size. I can see all the way through the muffler. Once I did that there are baffle plates around the outside of the center tube. I then knocked the first round disk down to the second disk. These disks are tack welded around the middle baffle or tube. On mine the center tubes are still there and welded together. I can bend them back and forth a little. I did not go any further because it appears they are as large or larger than the opening in the inlet side. I didn't want anything rattling in the muffler. Maybe I have missed what everyone is saying here. I would like to go a step further but I was not sure exactly what else to do. I tried to find a diagram of a HD muffler but could not find one. I keep saying one day I was going to stop by the HD Dealership somewhere and get a beat up muffler and open it up. :-) Maybe someone has already done that. Spotsy
  17. Question, after a ride, when you park the bike and come back out 30 minutes later do you get a fairly strong smell of gas. I have a 99 and the back carb on the drivers side would be wet on the bottom. I probably ran 3 or 4 cans of Seafoam through it hoping that would take care of cleaning the carbs. After each ride I would come back out several hours later or the next morning it would be dry. Last year I ended up cutting the petcock off as I came up the driveway to help run the bowls out of gas. Over the winter I finally put new needle and seats in the carbs to solve the problem. Hope it helps. Spotsy
  18. As you can guess you'll get plenty of opinions on this subject. :-) Years ago I was told to use Castrol in bikes since it was a high reving oil. Maybe I was just young and believed that person so I used it on the motorcycles. When I got my 1100 Ace Tourer I looked at the manual and it said to use oil with a SH, SG or one of those ratings (I do not remember which one). I went to Wal-mart and looked at the back of the quarts and the only one I found at that time was Valvoline Max Life that had that rating so I used it for 30K until I sold the bike. It was 4 years later that I realized the oil was for higher mileage engines so the container said. I used the Emgo filter 10-82230. I had no problems and the guy I sold the bike to put another 20K on it with no problems. I have since read a little about oil and filters. I came to realize there are three things about motorcycles that you'll get plenty of input on, oil, filters and tires. If you ask 50 people you'll get probably 25 different answers on either subject. To me, bottom line, read some of the responses and make a decision that you feel comfortable with. The main thing is to keep the oil and filter changed. Good luck. Spotsy
  19. Like someone else said, I would offer assistance if I could because it's the right thing to do unless I felt uncomfortable with something that I saw. Spotsy
  20. Does anyone has experience on a 2nd gen with air leaking out of one side on the forks? Goes down within a few hours. I've sprayed foam around the valve and top of fork with no luck is finding anything. I put a new valve in it and checked again with no luck. With that low of pressure dang thing hard to find. Thanks in advance. Spotsy
  21. Glad you found it and thanks for the update. Spotsy
  22. I hate to tell you but all I see is the red X in both posts. Try again. LOL Spotsy
