  1. Works like this.
  2. Elliott Glad you are enjoying your bike. You will find lots of helpful folks on this forum who are genuinely glad to have you here. Mike
  3. Good post. Raises some good questions. Is it possible the front tire gets some cooling by the air passing around it. Much of the air is blocked to the rear tire by the bike, fairings and engine etc. If you have a temperature gun it wouldn't hurt to take it along and maybe post some numbers. Mike
  4. The center stand works just fine for me too. Mike
  5. Just an idea I thought I would pass along. Adjusting the passing lamps is such a pain in the a-hold I decided to find an easier way. Checking the alignment and tightening the adjustment nuts with the sealed beams out was the issue for me. They always moved and I could never get them exactly where I wanted them. So I made a tool to help with the job. It is very simple and I made it out of a piece of scrap wood. The notch goes around the headlight and butts up to the passing light housings. The housings will be held pointed straight ahead. Then I use a small level from Harbor Freight for the vertical setting. This makes it easy to keep them both the same when I tighten things up. Mike
  6. Mark I am sure you will find a local member to help you. But might I recommend you get a carb tune or some such gauge and ask for someone to teach you how to use it. Mike
  7. If you are downloading pictures to your computer you must have some sort of picture viewing program. Most of the programs have an image resize somewhere in the menu. Look for that then resize your picture to 800x600 or less. Save (save as) your resized picture to a new name, old name plus a or b in the same location. You can then upload the new picture. Mike
  8. As you increase the idle RPM the trans starts to slam going into first gear. Since I don't like this I set my warm RPM just under 950. Mike
  9. Click the link for 'all press releases'. It is the second release. Also it appears they are a radial tire. Don't know how that would work on a RSV. Mike
  10. Elliott You are welcome. You only need to be about 1.5 inches into the exhaust. After that it is just preference. Mike
  11. First I didn't invent this mod. but I sure do thank whoever did. I used my dremel tool adapter with a cutter bit. I ended up using about 20 of the cutter wheels. first pic. Reach into the pipe about 2 inches with the adapter and cut the double pipe. Then push the pipe down. See pics. That is all there is to it. A couple of notes. The pipe is double walled the first few inches. On my first muffler after cutting through the first wall of the pipe I took a chisel and pushed it back so cutting the second wall would be easier. While I was doing this the inner wall now a small sleeve suddenly released and slid all the way into the muffler. Not really a problem but It could rattle around later. On the second muffler I just cut through both walls and there was no issue. I am now using both mufflers and they sound great. If you decide to fore go this procedure and drill holes in the ends of the mufflers just remember there are two baffles you must drill through. If you only go through one you will get little to no improvement in sound. Mike
  12. Well written and a reminder to us all. Glad you and your son came through ok. I shudder to think of what could have been. Mike

  15. Sorry to hear this. Prayers sent. Mike
  16. Air is less dense as altitude increases. It has to do with the atmosphere on our planet not Yamaha. Naturaly asperated engines (no turbo, no supercharger, no built in oxygen supply) loose about 3% of their power per 1000 feet. Depending on how you ride your bike you may or may not notice it but it does occur. If you normaly ride at 5000 feet that will seem normal to you. And a power increase at lower altitudes will just require a little less throttle. Probably not noticeable. Since I live and ride near sea level I notice a 15 plus percent loss in power very quickly. All engines experience this, Venture or otherwise. It doesn't matter how much you love or don't love your bike it happens any way. Mike
  17. It's not just radios. Non resistor plugs or wires can drive integrated circuits and computers nuts. And not just on your bike. They can also interfere with those around you. Most ignition systems actually operate better with resistor plugs so do yourself and those around you a favor and use the resistor plugs. Mike
  18. I just made that trip in May and had a similar experience. There is quite a variance in altitude along that route. For me the symptoms you described were altitude related. It wasn't really a problem just the way the engine ran at altitude. Lugged very easily on the slightest incline. May not be your problem but I wouldn't just rule it out either. Mike
  19. A parasitic drain of .0666 or .0670 is not significant enough to worry about. That is only 66 to 67 miliamp. Look elsewhere. The problem may be intermittent, in the battery or in the charging system. Mike
  20. Actually I prefer both. Gauges won't usually get your attention until something else does. Then they will help you figure out what is going on. Warning lights on the other hand will get your attention very quickly. So I prefer both. Warning lights come on and tell me to scan the gauges because all is not well. Mike
  21. Coolant and mufflers are probably not related. More likely coincidental. Where was the drip coming from? Center of the bike, down one side etc. It is probably as allwx said. But a little inspecting can't hurt. Mike
  22. Glad things worked out and help was there when you needed it. Mike
  23. I pretty much agree with what has been said here. Keep the bike basically as it is. Keep the V4. Just bring it into the 21st century. Increase horsepower by ten to fifteen percent. Fuel Injection, Anti-Loc brakes etc. (w/o linking). Improved gauges, more lighting. etc, anti-dive forks. Improve quality of what is already there. More than one model. From a plain version to fully dressed. More than one color choice. Mike
  24. Sounds like they pulled it with the two bikes. Mike
