There is a lot of weight on the front end which will naturally cause the bike to feel like it wants to fall to the inside during a very slow speed turn. Especially if you apply the front brake. It feels like it just pulls the handlebars in. This used to be very high anxiety for me. My gut reaction was to apply the brake and stop. That just aggravated the whole problem. The cure for me turned out to be practice making slow speed u-turns. Practice practice tighter and tighter u-turns. Now in these parking lot maneuvers I drag the rear brake a little, slip the clutch, and give it plenty of gas. I have discovered the brake will tip you over, the gas will straighten you up. The opposite of what my instincts were. I now have fun riding at low speeds and enjoy parking lot maneuvers. So it wasn't the tires or leveling links or the weight etc. It was me learning how to handle this beast. Mike

Battery Maintainer vs Battery Charger vs Battery Tender
MikeWa replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
A tender or maintainer provides automatic operation and less than a trickle charge. So it would take a very very long time to bring a very low battery back to full capacity. It may not even be able to do it at all. It is designed to keep a good battery at it's peak. It uses very little current. This is needed today because of parasitic drains such as keep alive circuits on modern vehicles. A battery charger is capable of higher current outputs. Some chargers may incorporate the features of a maintainer while others may not. Most chargers will have several selectable features which you have to decide if they meet your needs. Mike- 18 replies

Was it on a tender? If so check for bad connections. If not there have been some cases of the keep alive causing the battery to go low over a week or two. Especially with the audio system. You should be able to track it down with a parasitic draw test. Mike

If bike one and two leave at the exact same time and speed, with one on the inside and two on the outside, they will finish the intersection with bike two behind and to the right of bike one. Bikes three and four after a suitable delay will experience the same phenomenon. Thus all of the bikes will finish in a staggered row. Mike P.S. That is the reason when I am riding with a friend whoever is leading takes the inside of the turn at a stop sign. When we take off together the leader finishes the turn in front. Answer; so intersection three appears the most correct path.

I agree with the other posters. It is technique. Make sure both legs (feet) of the stand are touching ground before you put your weight on the stand to lift the bike. This takes a little practice. Then while you keep the bike balanced and centered on the stand aggressively let your weight do the lifting. The bike will kind of pop up onto the stand. It is a little scary at first. Also as said earlier. Relocate the offending valve. After the center stand is installed you will see that is is not centered on the frame of the bike. This caused me to sometimes drag the right side center stand foot. I worried about it becoming an anchor so I ground of some of the lip on the edge of the foot. This created a smooth surface so that even if it rubs it won't be like a hook. Good Luck with your project. Mike

Ship and ride is common among the Canadian Harley riders. Check at your local Harley shop. They can usually ship to another Harley dealer at your selected jump off point. Mike

A 2011 with no insurance? What did he pay cash for it? If he owes money on it the bank will make him have insurance and they will also have a blanket policy in case he doesn't. You might want to look at this a little closer. Mike

Thanks Greg this is one of the best mods I have made. Mike -
I also like the flames. And while the Venture may no longer be the class leader it is still a pretty respectable contender. Besides that I just like riding it. Mike

The choke should stay where you put it and may be your biggest problem. I agree with the sea foam and carb sync. Also your carb heaters may have been disconnected or may be not functioning. When starting I will pull the choke partway out. Open and close the throttle once then hit the starter. When the RPM stabilizes I will reduce the choke to obtain the 'no stumble' engine speed I want and ride. Usually within a couple of blocks I push the choke the rest of the way in. This is probably very similar to what you did with your V-Star. Congrats on your new bike and best of luck sorting out this little glitch. Mike -
