Pros & Cons On Front Tire
Tom replied to yamahamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I havnt ridden with the narrower front tire but I have ridden with guys that have the narrower front tire and I can turn with as much ease as they can....can cock the wheel all the way either direction and do a great uturn...All I have done was put and keep the Avon Vemons on mine, stock size,...For a brief period I had to put Metz on,(1700 miles and they started chunking rubber) and I could not turn the way I can with the Avons.I also could not handle the bike that well when I had the original tires on it,Dunlop D404s,I hated those tires followed every grove in the road! Just my 2 cents. Tom -
Lyle,You forgot to mention the Plantation home tour roads....Did you also mention pretty women? Tom

Blanco,Texas here. 42 miles north of San Antonio,40 Miles west of Austin Texas,26 miles from Luchenbach,Texas,47 miles to Fredericksburg.Texas.Now with that info, short and sweet, dead in the middle of the Texas Hill Country, arguably some of the best riding in the state of Texas! Also New Braunfels,Tx about 25 Minutes away where some great river rafting/tubing brings in alot of tourists. Down side to all of this is we are saturated with DEER. About the size of german shepherds on up to 290 lb Axis deer. Be careful riding down here, usually have a biker hit a deer around here every week. Type in any of the above towns and quite a bit of history. Also we have a great magazine here in Texas I recommend to EVERYBODY. Check it out here........ http://www.ridetexas.com/ Tom

Never a problem with mine and It has been ridden to the west coast 2 times all over Texas and NEVER a problem.Yes it has the whine but all bikes have some quirk to them. The west coast trip was running mostly 75-80 all the way, nevr burned a drop of oil, nothing but good service.I met ya at Ft Collins and if you get to Texas take mine for the week,go to Big Bend and that way you loose nothing. Ive got good Insurance. Tom

If they made one a little bigger I would buy one in a heartbeat but I am 5 10 240 and it feels just way too small.. It rides good but as I say make it bigger I will buy. This isnt a joke,it is just too small for me. Tom

As a few of you know my wife Debby has had 16 major surgeries on her neck, back and left arm. She has had 2 neurostimulaters put in and tomorrow Am another one. We discussed this accident and our riding and she says she does not want to quit doing the only thing left she and I can do together for outdoor type activities. Gary and Leslie knew this and rode with us numerous times and they were always accommadating as far as knowing I was going to take the curves easier and ride a little slower with Debby on the back. Ramblingman and Mike rode with us alot in Colorado and they both knew the situation and I felt so good knowing others understood and would "hold back" a little. Debby says it best..." Tom, dont take the only thing left I can do with you together and with others away from me...I want to LIVE life to its fullest as long as I can." We will keep riding but will always have Leslie on our minds and in our hearts. Leslie loved riding and her Love for Gary always showed.Tom

Gary,Bruce called me early this morning. I too am without words..All I can say is Debby and I will pray for you and we are here if you need us. Debby will be in the hospital on a major surgery in the morning and if she comes thru it without major problems, I am going to try to at least get up there ASAP. To those who never met Leslie,She is truely the sweetest person my wife and I have ever met. Gary We truly Love You and call me if you need...Tom And Debby Hendry

Gary,You and Leslie dont forget us if you pass thru..Debby goes in surgery Friday and I will let you know how it turns out. She will be up hopefully in 4-6 weeks so just call,we are in the new house so plenty of room. Tom

You dont need to jet them but sync your carbs is a must! They are VERY loud...I have a friend that has them. Tom

I just took off a set of Metz that had 1700 miles on em. They started cracking on the rear tread and yes I had the correct pressure as I am a fanatic about that. My opinion and Ramblingman can testify to it is that the stock tire size and going with Avons make it handle like its 300 lbs lighter it seems. I felt no need to go to a smaller tire after I put the Avons on. Tom.

Ive driven for 34 years..currently with Wal Mart Transportation,by far the best job ive ever had driving, been with them going on 10 years and work a week on week off schedule. Some companies offer a week on week off spot but I cant think of them at present but if I had my life to do over again I would not drive a truck as it really takes away from the personal life if you are going to be over the road. All I can say is PATIENCE is the key to driving accident free..I have over 3.75 million miles,no accidents no tickets....knock on wood but I always realize today could be that day and try to be as careful as I can be. Ok I am the Guinea Pig..I put a NEW set of Metz 880s on because I had to have new tires to got to Big Bend Park. While the tires were somewhat close to Avons as far as handling the road noise and roughness was TERRIBLE. I took my wife for a ride last weekend and didnt say a word about tires but she told me half way thru the ride "get me home,I hate these tires. When you put Avons back on I will ride with you again." So after 1500 or so miles I have Avons being installed on my bike today.Anyone want some Near newMetz880s,1500-1700 miles or less cheap?
-
I have them on mine..I am going to wrap them as they are still a little louder than I want so more wrapping on the baffle and hopefully a little less noise. Tom

When Bruce gets back fron FT Collins he will probably reply as he has a nice one that has a king size bed. I had a talk about the safety issue of something that heavy and as I expected, common sense and dont push it and he seems to have done all of that.
