  1. Sold the RSTD today. Actually traded it for a 2012 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager. I've been waiting for Yamaha to hang a new fuel injected v4 on the Venture and maybe update the technology to add ABS. Alas, the old RSTD needed a bunch of maintenance all at once so I gave in and bought the new tech from Kawasaki. Picked her up tonight with zero miles and put her away with 36 miles. Have to give her the standard break in for the next 964 miles, then I'm hitting the road for Colorado. So, anybody want to buy some barely used slash cut RSTD pipes? I hung them in the shed 7 years ago and they are still there. Also found the stock seat. Make me an offer if you're interested. Warmest regards,
  2. Those of you looking at HD pipes, looking for slash down style. The 2011 Road Glide Customs are slash down. No I am not looking at getting rid of mine. But I thought I might throw that out there if people like that style. I like them better than any others. Most that I see are either straight cut, or slash ups. There is a pic in my profile pictures that show the pipe enough so you can see what they look like.
  3. Hey everybody.... I'm going for that "V8 rumble sound" for my 04 RSV and not leaning to the 4-2-4 slip ons. (Very cool sound though) I could use some current feedback (some of the posts are a little outdated) I need to let my Harley/custom buddies know when I pass them not sound like a "sewing machine"...LOL I'm getting torn between: Baron Bag Slash Pipes cool sound sample (Mounts were altered to raise the pipes closer to the bags for improved ground clearance, incase I ever lowered I'm 5'6) KHROME WERKS Slip-on’s (some posts complained about tips flaking?) Bub Sleeper (does anybody know if black tips can work on these? I've seen them on other non-metric bikes and look sharp) LA Choppers OVAL BAG SLASH PIPES I've seen no response on these yet. Nice look and black tips are sharp. The costs are close enough for me to consider any of them. Baron's has 3 of these models http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/category/20/index.html Thanks...
  4. Just bought some barons bag slash slip on's for my 05 RSTD. Can I just put these on? Or, do I need to adjust carbs, etc? Thanks in advance!
  5. Got the pipes on everyone, and love the sound(Roadhouse Pipes - slash cut). Loud enough but not to loud. Very good rumble. Installation OK, just did not care for the wood block and hammer persuasion I had to use. But still worked out good. Have to kinda wiggle them as you go and take a wood block and drive them on a little ways at a time (wood block against the muffler hanger ). Then bolt up and tighten clamp. I also used some high heat silicone on pipe /muffler connection. I then unplugged the AIS and installed K&N filters. Purrs like a lion. I like the Roadhouse, good chrome to the end of slash cut pipes. I did not go with Bubs because I did not like the polished aluminum ends, I like the slash cut. Fuzzy
  6. Got my 89 back from the mechanic after what I thought was going to be some general repair and inspection. I had the rear shock replaced, the right front brake replace and greased the steering bearings. Paid my bill and rode it away but approaching the first stop sign at about 35 mph, I let up on the throttle and the handlebars went into a significant shimmy, shake, oscillation. On the highway, it settled down at about 50mph but reappeared at the same speed when I braked with the engine. I immediately returned to the mechanic. He said that he knew it was a problem but didn't know what to do. He wondered if it was the Avon Tires. He pointed out that on the front tire, there was a cup in the rubber on alternate sides of the tire just below the diagonal slash. In other words, facing the front of the bike looking at the diagonal slash on the bottom side of the highest part of the slash there is a cup. (Should of sent a picture). He wondered if the shimmy was due to the cupping. Seems to me that the speed would be too slow to have the tire issue effect the handle bars A couple years ago, I fixed an oscillation by removing the ignition cover over the steering head and rapping the big nut with a screwdriver and hammer. I've got an new Avon front tire in my garage and could put it on but would rather not since the one on the bike is not worn out yet. So, whadda ya think? Is it the Avon or is the steering too loose? Anybody else have this problem? Iowa Guy I wanna ride my bike
  7. Also Barons Bag Slash Pipes. Any comments good, bad? about these pipes would be appreciated. Thanks
