Why does she bogg and loose RPM
bongobobny replied to Pam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It might be time to clean out and coat your tank. I now recommend Red-Kote for treating your tank inside as well as the other maintenance mentioned here... -
Another vote for the Diamond R here...

OK history of Buell. There once was an engineer at Harley who one day decided that he had enough of working for a motorcycle company that made, in his opinion, inferior motorcycles so he started his own company. That man's last name was Buell. The rest is history...

Getting dizzy reading about mesh jackets.
bongobobny replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
Yah! Another Joe Rocket fan here! The main thing is do NOT buy any jacket in Black and expect it not to be warm! That's my only complaint about my jacket. I have one of those that the liner is removeable and the shell unzips leaving a mesh jacket for hot temps. Wish it was a light color. Of course in lower temps when the sun shines it makes it warmer being black... -
1984 venture fuel pressure switch
bongobobny replied to dannodude's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Actually, that 5 second dropout is for when you first turn the key on. After 5 seconds voltage is removed to the fuel pump until a timing pulse (bike running) is received from the TCI,m at which time the relay restores 12 volts to the fuel pump. I believe the issue is to prevent fuel from contrinuously being supplied to the carbs in case of a stuck float or something. Actuyally I'm really not sure of the why, just know about the what... -
We're planning on attending the PIP this September. Freebirds is too close to call it a long distance...

Yah!! I noticed 12 mutual friends so I knew it had to be a Venturerider but had to click on your profile to figure out who it was. The last name didn't register with me for some strange reason! Fear not, Charlie, I accepted your invitation...

Cleaning The Aluminum
bongobobny replied to dkaiser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah!! Strip the discolored clear laquer, polish the aluminum, and reapply a clear coat to the aluminum and you will be looking like new for years to come. Or, you can buff out the aluminum to look like chrome but plan on waxing often... -
Repair Exhaust Collector
bongobobny replied to Evan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One of the downsides of having an exhaust with minimal back pressure (like Harleys with straight pipes) is, as mentioned, running lean which leads to hotter exhaust which can, and does sometimes, eventually burn exhaust vaslves... -

bongobobny replied to twigg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah! Timing issue!! Suspect you try your vacuum module near your TCI. Check for voltage input, vacuum line, and voltage output. If you, need a spare one I have one... -

I have to agree a lot with what Blackjack has to say!! You have to be a caring individual to properly set up a ride! Chances are if you don't care about others then the ride is a "By guess and by gosh" type ride. Someone whom cares about others will try to plan the ride with as few as possible areas where the ride will be separated, etc. such as left turns, short traffic lights, etc. As previously stated, alcohol consumption in excess (I have no problem with a beer, singular, with lunch) is a no-no and a death wish!! I haven't ran across a venturerider ride yet that I regreted!!

Firsts - power port, windshield vents, pulling trailer, & headset
bongobobny replied to mmoffitt's topic in Watering Hole
It's very easy to forget the trailer is behind you!!! Keep am mental note of that and remember the trailer is slightly wider than the bike. Don't ask how I know that... -
OK there you have it!!! I use a vacuum pump myself but also have speed bleeders, and I bled from the bleeder near the steerring head as well and have very good brakes!!
