  1. Clay, I would be interested in the "leftovers" I dont need any of the pricey stuff. I have been working on so many 1st gens over the last year that my supply of bolts and attaching hardware and such is very low. I would be interested in items like that, give me a shout when you get the majority sold.
  2. If there is one thing that I hate, it's being stumped, and carburetors I am in the process of getting Dave P's '86 back together and the #2 carb is being a PITA. I set all the other floats on the other 3 carbs with relatively little difficulty. #2 we the one that I couldn't get the pilot valve out of and Yammer Dan ended up sending me a set of carbs he had so I could swap the bodies out. I have had this carb broke down several times now and soaked it good with carb cleaner in all the ports and passeges that I know of and can see. Here's the deal, no matter where I bend the tang to set the float level it never is right. It is always too high I can't get it to come down. I have looked at the seat and needle, even replace the needle with a different one from one of the spare carbs. It seem to me that gas is filling from possibly somewhere else. It's not flowing over but no matter what I do, it will not set right. I have said it before, I suck with carbs, and it irritates the crap out of me that I need to take time to learn them and I hate that! I need some help from you carb guys out there, I'm at my wits end here and Dave needs his bike back....give me some guidance please
  3. No worries Buddy, we'll handle it, just let us know what you need and it will be done.
  4. Now you just need to find them
  5. Gunboat....you deserve every bit of it my friend, you share your time and skills quite freely
  6. OK so how much did you get it for

    eBay

Ivan, Not that it necessarily relates to what you were talking about, but there is an option that folks can use to see if on of the bidders is one of us. In our profiles it also gives our ebay screen names (if we decide to give that info) I also see that ebay has blocked out buyers names due to all the behind the scenes deals that it looses money on. Good luck with finding plastic, it almost always goes high and there are lots of guys looking for it.
  8. Karl, As long as the temp gauge goes back down and doesn't stay buried in the red this is normal. To put it bluntly the temp gauge on all the 1st gens are less than desireable, everyone I have owned has creeped right to the redline before it went back down. There is a thermo switch on the right side of the bike, just under the upper fairing and behind the chrome side piece that has a wire attached to it. Make sure that wire is correctly attached to the post as that determines the fan. The gas mileage is also about normal, this bike has been sitting a long time and will take a while for everything to settle into place. I know many say they have gotten close to 50 mpg but I have never seen that in all of the 6 Ventures I have owned. I have gotten at best 42 and as low as 34, just depended on what I was hauling and how fast. I consistantly averaged 38 to 40 mpg on my bikes.
  9. I think you might be looking too far into the data there. I have never heard of any stock size tires rubbing. I haven't run the E3's but use the Venoms all the time, just buy the stock size tire and ride
  10. Nice machine, I too like the Strat and I dont think that you will regret your choice
  11. Couldn't agree more, the care packages were the lifeline, athough the webmail is kinda cool these days. As always thank you to your young men for their service to our country. If they want some email pals let us know, I'd be more than happy to keep in corrispondence with them.
  12. See what you got yourself into bro BTW...thanks for doing it for us again
  13. I've been thinking of spurring this back up myself, like many of you I'm not loosing the pounds. Although people have noticed that I am loosing weight, it's only been about 7 lbs. Just remember that we are working on a lifstyle change in how we eat and how much we eat. Keep exercizing! I know that I have not gone to the chiroprator in over 3 months, I know this is doing me good. I also believe that in my case seeing I have been doing weight training that I am gaining muscle, which is heavier than fat. Don't throw in the towl, keep it going as I know you all can make it happen. Even if it's not for maintenance day, this will add years to your life being more health concience. I'm pulling for all mof you and congrats to all of you that are on your path to making your goals
  14. Take it in and let them fix it, thats why we buy a new bike with a warranty
  15. Pics are a bit small Gerry, little tough to see, but I would want to comment on a few things. The trunk seems a bit high up, and it looks like it would be too far back and take away all your tounge weight when it was loaded, I would definitely not put it there as your handling would be drastically affected. I think that I would stick with just the saddlebags and put some sort of cooler rack in front of them to give you more tounge weight. I have had an idea to do just what your doing with 2nd gen saddlebags for a few years now. I just haven't had the extra monies to get all the parts and just do it. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get to it anytime soon either Mine would be a 2 wheel trailer as the G2 bags open from the top and not the sides. With one wheel I would want to keep the bags as close to the ground as feasable to keep a low center balance point. Your onto a good idea and I do hope that some others will chime in and spread somne fabricating knowledge
  16. Count me as 3 I had a 130 Venom on the front of my 2nd '99 and it didn't feel solid at highway speeds. I was blown around a lot more with it then when I had the 150. The Avons WILL make the bike handle better with the 150. Personally I would go with the 150 and a set of leveling links, but thats just my opinion
  17. Perhaps like some of the folks on this site Yeah I include myself in that demographic
  18. Randy is spot on with the advise, common problem with the 1st gen Ventures. The fuel filter is above the swing arm on the left side, it's a PITA to get to if you dont know where it's at. Like Randy also mentioned best time to replace it is with the rear tire off, I'll try to get a pic on here later for you.
  19. Tim, Nice vision on the Venture Just like Dan mentioned, excellent thinking outside the box, I hope to see both yours and Zaggers one of these days
  20. Lewis, As long as you like it thats all that counts, it's yours and your customizing it how you want it. It will look different and thats a good thing
  21. It would more than likely take a couple of oil changes to rid the engine of any suspected wrong oil. You may need to look into changing out the springs as many bikes, both 1st & 2nd gens seem to develope a slipping around the miles you have, depending on how they were ridden. Make sure you have the proper oil 1st, if it doesn't go away I would statrt to look into upgrading the clutch with springs.
  22. Open up the front fairing and check all the connectors behind it. Take them apart and make sure they are clean and put some Dilectric grease in the plugs and put them back together making sure you push hard. This would be the 1st place I would start and then start the troubleshooting process, let us know how you do.
  23. Tim, Glad to hear that it worked out for you, enjoy the "New' ride
  24. Not that this means anything, 'specially out of me but I dont care for the chrome cover there. It just seems very flimsy to me and I know they scratch very easily. I know a few guys that replace them every couple of year or less. I haven't heard of any of the contacting with the handlebars. I ended up covering my stock one in leather and I really like it a lot, but I'm into leather accents on the bike
  25. Terminal Supply is an excellent company, that where I bought all the materials when I was making the battery cables. They have these nice little solder slugs that I used, they worked a treat
