  1. While at Marcarls Venture in I watched him do a carb sync on Evens bike the tool he used was a very simple home made tool. While in Princess auto I decided to pick up a vacuum gauge and make my own I also stumbled across a square pre-drilled and tapped aluminum sqaure bar with a total of 7 ports. Picked up 4 needle valves from Lowes plumbing section and 20' of clear tubing and proceeded to build my own. To operate you simply open the valve connected to the cylinder you are working on and adjust to steady the needle. By using one gauge there is no worry about accuracy between gauges. If you made one with 4 gauges you would have to spend extra money for high quality gauges that read exactly the same. NOTE; I HAVE REPLACED THE CLEAR HOSE WITH ACTUAL AUTOMOTIVE VACUUM HOSE FINDING THAT THE CLEAR HOSE WOULD COLLAPSE WHEN IT GOT WARM
  2. Will be ordering a new rear tire for my Venture in an hour or two. Kind of shocked how much they have gone up. Going for a Michelin Commander II for 159 dollars. Anybody know somewhere cheaper? I could go for a Dunlop Elite III also. The 159 is free shipping.
  3. I contacted this morning the Yamaha dealer, for a price quote for changing the brake and clutch fluid. they told me it will take up to 2 hours to change the fluids ...is this correct ? I thought always you can do that in 1 hour? They quoted my 120 dollars labor and 20 dollars for the fluids.
  4. This site is costing me way more than 12 dollars a year. First thing Road king mod around a 100.00 bucks. Then aux cables for Ipod an splitter at the cassette deck 240.00 (including Ipod ). Avon tires 330.00 and now Steve Wagner grill 170.00 that's a total of :headache: 840.00 not counting what the wife has spent. But that new grill sure looks purty. But all of these new friends is priceless.

    A Tale of Two Scooters

Keep an open mind or read no further. You have been warned! So...back in early June I learned of a couple of 150cc scooters for sale. Cheap. Fast forward a few weeks and I bought them. I loaded them both up in my little-red-chevrolet-half-ton-pickemup-truck, and hauled them home. Roketa Bali 150cc Chinese Scooters. You can buy them on the interweb for around $1200-$1400 delivered. I paid $600 each. These are 2007 models, with 252 miles on the black one, and 688 miles on the blue one. Not even broken in. They have sat for most of the last 3 years. The previous owners bought them as a pair and just didnt ride them much. They are a hoot! These get around 70 mpg, will do almost 60 mph on a flat level road, and are super easy to ride. Twist and go...no shifting. No, you wont be taking these on the interstate, you'll get yer ass run over. But around town they are fun and easy to ride. The have some storage under the seat, enough room for a couple of bags of groceries...and more pep than you would think. They will easily keep up with normal traffic. In fact, most of the time I'm in front. MOST of the time! I traded the blue one off, and was going to sell the black one to another friend, but she backed out due to the long wait to take a motorcycle class. (that sucks by the way!) So I decided to keep the black one. Added to my stable. I have had 5 offers to buy the black one from me...two of those offers were from Harley owners who took it for a spin...its that much fun! I was really surprised when I took it to my insurance agent and they quoted me 7 dollars. I said, seven dollars a month? She said, no...seven dollars a YEAR! I can live with that! So off I ride into the wild, but nearby, blue yonder. http://s62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/roketa-scooter/?albumview=slideshow

  7. I just got myself appointed to the county volunteer fire board by the County Judge Executive. Hopefully I can help improve fire service and obtain the best value for our tax dollars. I may come here from time to time seeking advice from the member fire fighters. About all I know about fire fighting is to call 911. Wish me luck! Dennis
  8. So...after I got my $180 dollars back from the bank on my chargeback, I decided to start a journey. Here is a breakdown of how I spent my money that I got back after Troy stole it from me. I started by buying a half hide of upholstery leather on Ebay for $56 dollars. After receiving the leather, I then trekked out to the garage and made some quick templates. Took me about 1.5 hours to make the templates. At first I was going to take the cut out of the hide to an upholstery shop to sew them up, but it was a rainy day. I decided, to learn how to sew. I went down to Target and bought a sewing machine for $79.99 + tax, then headed to Hobby Lobby to buy some upholstery thread and leather needles. (They didn't have the leather needles, so I opted for the heavy duty all purpose needles.) Total Cost about $12. Then I went to Advanced Auto and bought 18 ft roll of trim for $12. I, then read the manual on how to set up the sewing machine and thread it. (It has been since 1993 in Home Economics class since I have sewn.) So, away I went... I knew I still had enough left over leather to screw up 3 times... So, I started with the Tank Bib, since that was just pretty much a straight sew. It came out really nice, I was quite impressed with my natural ability. Took me 5 minutes to sew. Then I started with the Saddle Bag Bras. These were a little more difficult, but I was still able to sew them up and trim them out in about 45 minutes. I learned a few things that might have helped. The leather that I bought was a little thick. It made it hard for the trim that I bought to go over the seams. It also was not very plyable. It worked great for the tank bib though. I also learned that I might need to redo the patterns, because as you can see from the pics, they are not a PERFECT fit. In the end, it does work for me. I may take another crack at it, and maybe some more leather projects, as I have quite a bit left over. All in All... This is my point.. If Troy would have had the templates already made. It would have taken him less than 1.5 hours to cut, sew and fabricate my order. Remember, I am a rookie and it took me that much time after I made my templates. In my opinion, he is a scam artist and he just takes payments ahead as a steal. When the pressure is put on, then he comes through. My materials cost me less than $80 (plus a sewing machine). If he really had my materials like he said, he should have sat down and sewn the order. So for 160 dollars, I am quite satisfied with the outcome.
  9. Can someone provide an general approximation of time, part and dollars in replacing a cracked oil plan.
  10. Banking problem explained Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died.' Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.' Chuck said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.' The farmer said 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!' Chuck said, 'Sure I can Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898.00.' The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?' Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.' Chuck now works for Goldman Sachs.

  12. Well I realize that anyone who loves the stock Venture will not appreciate the mutilation that I have done to this bike but I wanted to share with you all what can be done to one of these if you don't mind wasting dozens of hours, hundreds of dollars and a perfectly good Yamaha Venture. To see the story unfold... http://www.kloppenberg.us/chopper.html
  13. Interesting concept and I think a pretty good idea but at what looks like about $385.00 in US Dollars, I think I'll pass. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/reevu/msx1/
  14. Has anyone attempted to mount a stereo system on an OEM windshield? I looked at the sites for the fairings and batwings and it appears I would be out a couple thousand dollars just to get some tunes. I was looking at the space above the instrument cluster and it got me to thinking...
  15. The wife asked me to give her a list of what I want Santa to bring me for x-mas, I would really like a set of passing lights for the scoot of my dreams that is sitting in the garage, I just can't for the life of me tell her the bracket and the lamps together cost 250 dollars. (ya know --three kids in college at the same time) Any one seen the lights and mounts cheaper any where? Ive looked on ebay and a couple stealer websites, all about the same price.
  16. Since our tax dollars that we haven't paid yet are being used to bail out the big 3 auto makers and obama? has already said that the gov is going to own 60% of GM, shouldn't some of us heavy tax payers be entitled to a COMPANY car ?? If so - I opt for a 2009 Silverado Z71
  17. I have a markland trailer hitch off an 83 venture that i will sell for fifty dollars plus freight which i estimate at 15 to 20 dollars more. Just drop me an email and we can work something out. I can do paypal, money order or wait for your check to clear. I don't know what other years it will fit. I thought i'd give you folks a chance before listing it on ebay. ALSO I HAVE A COMPLETE SET OF USED ROTORS THAT I'LL SELL FOR THE SAME PRICE PLUS SHIPPING. Ron

  19. The manual call for the steering head and swingarm to be greased at this time. The dealer is saying it will take 8 to 10 hours of labor or $640.00 to $800.00 dollars. Is there some way to grease these areas with out disassembling the motorcycle? Barry:Im not listening to
  20. went by my dealer the other day and he is going to get one new vmax with my name on it. no wait. he wanted to put my name on it. think i'm going to have to pass on that one. did get a brochure with all the specs. only going to make 2500. thats the plan so far. think it's strictly a test bed for the new venture motor. the max has possibilities, but it won't hold a candle to my zx14 for looks or performance. not to mention over $18,000 dollars. won't be any aftermarket stuff available for just 2500 bikes. the exaust would have to go. it's butt ugly.almost tops my warriors stock exaust. looks heavy, and for performance shaft drive is'nt the ticket.

  22. I read the thread from last August on Avon Tyres. Very interesting comments and suggestions. Thanks to Goose for his great evaluation. I have about 3,000 miles left on the Met's and have decided to switch to Avon's and go with the smaller 130/90 front tire. I checked a few on-line sites and see that Motorcycle Pro Shop is a few dollars less than some of the others. Has anyone used this company or know anything about them? I wouldn't want to get tires that's 2 or 3 years old. Thanks. Spotsy http://www.motorcycleproshop.com/tires/avon.asp
  23. Bought $500 US dollars on Thursday for $499.60 Canadian:rasberry:
  24. Most of you know all this already, this post is for the few new folks who might not be aware of the pitfalls of going to a dealer..........for anything other than to look at all the new bikes.......that is basically all dealers are good for. The main reason I do not let any dealer work on my ride is because of two situations that could have caused a lot of grief. The first was at a Power Sports dealer in South Carolina, this is a dealer who sells not only yamaha, but honda, kawasaki, suzuki...a few more. I needed new tires on my Honda Shadow 1100, did not have time to order some, wanted to go for a ride to North Carolina that weekend so I took the bike in for new tires and waited three hours while the work was done. On the way home, I suppose I had went about 12 miles I kept hearing a chatter like something was loose when I would stop for a light and the bike was at idle, so I pulled over and started looking. The front axle nut was hand tight, it was vibrating when I would stop........I have never trusted any dealer after that one. The other less serious incident was with my Harley 1200 Custom, I had taken it in to have a new drive belt installed and on the way home I kept hearing something squealing.......inspection found they had mounted the drive belt cover with the mounting bracket on the wrong side of the belt. So today, it was a little slow so I stopped into a dealer, with the intent to look around a bit, buy a couple oil filters , some oil etc..........boy have I been missing out!!! I was not aware how these stealers have really progressed to total rip-off status!1:big-grin-emoticon: Good Grief!! I looked at oil first, actually I wanted Mobil One, they did not have that, but had several other synthetics, at 13 dollars to 18 dollars a quart, yes I did not stutter, that is what they wanted for it. So I gave up on that idea and looked for gear oil........it was only 18 dollars for a quart, so I left all that on the shelf and walked to the counter and asked for two oil filters.........I had assumed they would be 12 to 15 dollars each as hey I am at a dealer! They wanted 27 dollars each.....and they still have them! I have also emailed two dealers , and called one of them about the clutch whine, gear box.......rear end.....harmonics.......whatever is causing it.........and neither emailed me back. The one I called will get back with me:rotf::rotf:ya right, I do not have a blue smilie..do not want to hold my breath that long:sign20: . Just thought I would post my recent dealership experiences......not news to most of you. Working on getting my windshield situation resolved....once done. I plan to invest as much time as it takes to come up with the real reason behind the whine issue, not that I dislike the bike.......I love it........just I like to find a resolution to things. If any of you are newbies........stay away from dealers, yes I know someone is going to chime in and say, hey dummie, my dealer is not like this.......wanna bet? Deal another hand and see what happens!! Kit
