Break In Gas Mileage?
Squidley replied to navycamel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is a break in period for every engine that the fuel economy will be bad as the rings seat themselves in. Make sure that you run it through all the RPM ranges and dont set the cruise on it for long periods, this will help the break in. My '08 gets about 38 mpg, but I like to play with it and many times I'm heavily loaded 2 up. The average is about 40 mpg for most the members depending upon how you play with it....have fun with your new toy- 2 replies

Vmax gears in RSV Question
Squidley replied to Reaney in NH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Has anybody talked to Sportmax and see what they do to the rearends? My concern is that it's a simple gear swap where they set the gear lash on the Vmax gears they are installing in the pumpkin. I would be interested how long they guarantee the work for and if they are replacing seals and going through the rearend? -
Stumped......
Squidley replied to 83VR3711's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you have done ANY work on the carburetors you need to resync them. I also would recommend that you do a complete tune up, wires, wire caps and a new set of plugs. You should also check to see what your float levels are at on all 4 carbs. If you dont have a manual, you need to get one. -
Lost the Headlight On My 86'VR!?!?
Squidley replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Spray some electric cleaner in the starter switch Earl. That could be sticking, and as stupid as this sounds...check the bulb, we'll help you get it figured out. -
I would dare say that you need to replace the spring, I have gone through this on lots of Ventures both 1st and 2nd gens. For under a $100 you can get the problem resolved, go to this website http://www.pcwracing.net/ Talk with John Ganey and he will set you up with what you need. Tell him you want the clutch upgrade kit for the Venture. I have done 5 2nd gens with this problem and it all went away afterwards. I also would change out the brake fluid in all your reserviors just because it's 10 years old more than likely is the original stuff.

I'm definitely with Lutz on this one, I have tried several different pads and the EBC HH sintered ones perform the best in my opinion.

If I do get back into it ( I was VERY invloved about 10 years ago) I would buy a Mattews Solocam. I had a Browning Midas and the axle ratio was long, but it was VERY smooth, I pulled 72 lbs with that one. I have been out of the archery loop for so long now I couldn't tell you what is good anymore, but I do like the Mattews

Curt, I do agree there are exceptions to the rule with everything. If I were stuck on the road and needed to do it, I would. Then get it to someplace for a more detailed fix. I have seen plugs destroy a tire and that is my reasoning for posting up my experiences, it's all good Ben, I understand where your coming from with the open part of the hole. There are many folks in the tire business and they do things a bit different with good results. I always put some vulcanizing glue into the hole from the outside of the tire to help seal up any exposed belting. I just post up advice here to err on the side of solid safe judgement. Will the tire be OK with a plug, probably so, but I hate to see it come down to a tire going out due to a plug....I know all about loosing a tire at highway speeds

I like the idea of it, I'm all about not releying on foreign oil if we can. This is the future, and as hard as it is for some of us (me included sometimes) to accept change on certain things, it needs to happen. Folks like us aren't going to buy this, but I will say that folks in the cities will probably go for it like gangbusters. Did you read the 0 to 60 times, 5 seconds....thats moving!

That happens to many of us, I know I have had a few times where I thought it was going over. I have only dropped 1 of my Ventures and that was in the front yard on some wet grass. Your not the only one my friend....welcome to the almost oopsie club

Always screws me up for a week or better, I know they have their excuses as to why we do it, but I would much rather see it done away with

I know your frustration "Mr. Chicago" I dont know if my bike not selling is a blessing or a curse There will be other bikes, just get rid of as much debt as you can and it will eventually turn around. If you need some help getting to Maintenance Day let me know, I WILL come and pick you up if thats what it takes....all the best my friend.

I will be one of the black sheep here, I wouldn't and here's why I say that. When you install a plug in any tire (Car or bike) you help to destroy the belts inside the casing. On a car with steel belted tires in a northern zone salt will infiltrate in there and corrode the steel around where the plug was inserted. Ever since I managed a tire store I NEVER install plugs in anything, do it right and put a patch on the inside if your trying to milk more miles out of the tire, you only have 2 of them on your bike

I have to agree with Lutz, if not much of the acid spilled out then top it off and try to charge it. If it was dry I wouldn't waste my time as even if it did charge up you would have a false sence of security. Dont need a bike battery puking while your 300 miles from home

You'll more than likely get many responces, here is mine.... Dont waste your money on a Silverstar, I had one and wasn't impressed very much. It's slightly (read very little) better than stock. My choice would be to get a PIAA Xenon bulb, and not a blue coated bulb. The Xenon gas makes it burn brighter and thats what will be going in my '08 in the near future...hope this helps some.
