  1. Like most here I've ridden and owned most of the touring brands. My wife and I love to ride, tour. At least every other weekend we are on a 700 to thousand mile ride. On long weekends or vacations it's to see whatever is in the direction we start out. When I owned the HD I meet a lot of riders that wanted to ride. After doing a few and I mean few hundred mile weekend runs and a couple 3 day 1000 milers, I noticed the riders began to drop out of the riding sceen but still owned their HD's. As I would try to join them on rides or get them to go on rides, I found their riding was down to a couple hundred miles to grab a burger, but most of their riding now is to the Harley shop on the weekend to BS with other non-riders and eat the free burgers and dogs. I have questioned them as to the drop of in riding and find in all cases it gets back to the amount of maintaince the HD requires and making them feel very tired at the end. I have found a new group of riders that love to ride and it is a mixture of all makes and models with a few 2 or 3 hard core Harley owners, that I enjoy riding with. These riders want to go and see, so don't mined a 500 mile day or 1000 mile weekend. As for my wife, she has a 2" covered foam pad she can sit on when she feels the need to get a little better view over my helmet. It is hard to please a passenger if the love of riding is not equal to or more than the pilot's. I have also learned to ride at a pace the passenger is confortable and relaxed. I want the passenger to know that they are in compatent hands, so they enjoy the experience and want to continue to share in the total motorcycle experience. In my RSV I have found the bike that I love to ride and my wife has learned to love it as well. Her first couple rides she wasn't sold on it because she had many years on a GW and BMW that felt different. Now, if I went and got something else it would take a few rides to get her back into her confort zone.

Well, I went with the www.electrialconnection.com harness and adapter. Very clean install. I would recomend this harness and adapter for a no splice install. For the trailer plug made a bracket that mounted to the helmet lock rear. Nice out of the way and secure. May take the trailer to Cody but since I'm riding Solo this trip really don't need it. Not computer literate enough to attach photos, but will eventually. Old School and like it that way, but finding I better learn or I'll get beat up pretty good, here. lol OH!! THANKS to all your imput, helped out. 2, 3, 4, heads are better than 1. I don't post much, but always get a lot of help from what I read everyday here. Definitely prevents a lot of trial and error on projects.
  5. www.electricalconnection.com get plug and play electrical. I order the harness and adapter for the RSV, took a short time to install. Very clean install and no splicing wires except to add the plug end you are going to use for the trailer.

Nice Idea. I thought, I had thought of everything, but I like this idea. I will definitely consider it, since it will keep the cleanest look. Just moved to the top of the list of considerations. Thank You.
  7. I looking for a clean and professional look when I mount the 5 flat plug on the bike. Have looked at the back of my 08 RSV and can't seem to decide how or where to mount the plug. I'm pretty picky, but know there are others on here that are picker than I and also wanted a clean look. So the question is how and where did you mount your trailer plug. Thanks.
  8. really no place to stay in between those two towns. Socorro would be your best bet. Looks like you are going to ride hwy 60 across. excellent choise, rode it a couple weeks ago from prescott to albuquerque. i work in albuquerque but live 40 miles east. i don't get through with work until 6:30-7:00pm usually. if you get to scorro and if i can, i will definitely attempt to ride down for a cup of coffee. phone # on my profile. John
  9. The service rep. at Bobby J's Yamaha name is Rob. phone # 505-884-3013 they a closed on Sundays and Mondays.
  10. I just had my front inner and outter faring warrantied by yamaha. sounds like the same type of issue. The windshield was loose and upon inspection by the dealer, noted the plastic taps on each end that hold the metal strip that goes between the windshield and faring were broken and the tabs that hold the windshield were broken the tried to get yamaha to warranty. first call denied. yamaha said the same thing, must have hit something, this bike has never hit, leaned over to the crash bars and always serviced by the dealer, because it is under warranty and i want them to do it all except oil changes untill the warranty is up. So, I took my bike back in and had them dismantel the faring and take pictures as this progressed, then refile a claim with yamaha. the claim was excepted and all parts replaced that were effected. I really think and so did the dealer think, the tab design is weak and under stress the windshild plate mounting tabs can break. Pictures, Pictures may help. I also feel my damage was caused in origional shipping and assembly by the dealer went un-noticed. I would keep pressure on the dealer to send pictures and refile the claim. If that doesn't progress ask to see and speak to the rep. personally. I have come to believe that Yamaha claims operates like the medical field in a lot of cases claims are denied thing the customer will go away. Don't go away without taking it as far as you can. Usually it is not the dealer or in the dealers best interest to have an unhappy customer and could be worth a few bucks to have an attorney send a letter to the dealer and yamaha explaining the warranty and their obligation to the warranty. I didn't have to get nasty but the dealer knew I was prepared to go step by step to get the issue corrected by yamaha. Actually the dealer Bobby J's Yamaha was excellent to deal with and I feel expressed the right concerns and professionally evaluated the issues to get a satisfactary result. Good Luck, Shamue.
  11. Wives are SMART. My wife won't let me get a gold wing either. Likes the confort on the RSV, so there you go. And I'm not disapointed either. Guess I'll let her stick around to make a few more dicissions.
  12. i've seen a couple carriers for golf clubs that go in the trailer hitch receiver on the net. has a rack and clubs stand striaght up.
  13. I also use a big truckers map, keep it rolled up in a cardboard tube. it's worn over the years but in good shape. shamue

    Comfort

First want to that Diamond R Accessories for their great service. Ordered an RSV pillow stuff back rest on Thursday and got it yesterday. Great looking piece, nice size pouch, and matches my seats. Hope to install it today when I do an oil change and inspection for a long ride this weekend. Thanks again Diamond R, second time I've ordered from them and really like the product quality and service. Shamue
  17. I'm getting ready to hook up the electrical to my rsv and posted a question about hooking into the tail light harness as i have done on bikes before. got a responce from member jer878 (Jim) about going to www.electricalconnection.com and getting a wire harness adaptor and isolator for the rsv. he used one and it's great. So, I ordered mine yesterday. what i like about the isolator is if there is a short by grounding a wire it will not effect the bike's electrical system. this is plug and play, with a clean oem look and no splicing wires to cause shorts or connection issues. can also be used on a 5 to 4 wire instalation. This company also has other interesting leds, like led oem side marker lights on the saddle bag crash bars instead of the refectors. definitely worth checking out. with this i would also like to thank Jim (jer878) for the info.
  18. Thanks, Jim I like how clean this set up would be. will make an order asap.
  19. since it is a dry county, hope you drank their lemonaide, it is the best I've ever had and makes me go back anytine I'm in the area. Chilled just right, sweet and tangy. Also a Squire. Shamue
  20. I am finishing up the electrical wiring for a trailer. The trailer has independent turn signals and all lights are LEDs. I have read many of the threads about hooking up to the bike's electrical and notice almost all talk about tapping into the wiring under the seat. I have an 08 RSV and my question is: has anyone tapped into the harness behind the licence plate? I was going to make 2 into 1 water proof bullet connector adapters so not to have to splice into wires for the bike's female trailer plug. (running, brake, 2 turn signals, then a ground) and if anyone has Pros or Cons as to why one hook up is better or worse / under the seat vs behind the licence plate, it will help me decide. (i wired my gold wing up to the harness behind the rear tail light cluster and never had any issues) Thanks, Shamue
  21. Looks like an early Coleman. I looked at one many yrs ago a local hardware store was selling them. From my old memory I think the were a couple different sizes.
  22. you always get ideas looking at other's projects. your trailer has given me an idea, i may try on the trailer i'm re-working. as a thought, i think i would see if there is a way to have either the front or one or both sides to open. having a trailer you have to reach into from the back can be a pain sometimes. I like what you are doing.
  23. Phoneman, when it gets hot, the wife has a hankerchief she soaks around her neck and has a large spray water bottle to keep her sprayed while riding. She'll even spray me once in awhile. Long trips we try to beat the heat by riding early 6-7am then stop and take in some sights between 3-5pm or nap and ride later as it is cooling for another hr or so. Can still run 450 + miles pretty easy. Run through NM, AZ, NV, CO all summer and it works for us. There have been days no matter what you try to do it is just flippin hot. Yuma, Tuson, and Blyth AZ. Cool riding.
  24. WARRANTY, i also have an '08 and it is still under warranty. yamaha just replaced my inner and outter fairings due to what i think they decided as a weak design. the inner plastic tabs that hold the metal strip that the windshield attaches to both cracked, causing a space between the windshield and fairing.
  25. a lot younger then Biloxi, MS. to Albuquerque, NM. 1500 mi. 30 hrs. Rained every bit of the way, was running from a hurricane along the gulf coast, that turned west and tracked over Huston, TX then followed me home. The second I got home and parked the bike skies cleared and the rain stopped. Have definitely changed my riding habits.
