  1. We have had the first brown Christmas in a long time here in NW Iowa. Kind of nice for a change. Even went for a couple hr. ride this afternoon. I've never ridden the end of December before. If the weather holds next weekend, we can get out and ride on New Years day!
  2. I've got the star on ours. We put my big canvas duffle bag on it (antenna to antenna) and it worked fine out to Colorado in '10 but made it top heavy in high winds. Six days is about all we can pack for. Fixed that problem this summer and go a Aluma trailer for next year. The wife is so excited. Room for more shoes!!!
  3. Put me on that list too. Had the same thing happen to us on the way back from Colorado last year. Left Dillion in the morning and went 2 hrs without shifting. We decided to pull over for gas and breakfast and nothing was there. Looked down and my shift lever was laying on the floorboard. Lesson learned and I put locktite on the new bolt and haven't had it again. It does get your attension when it happens though.
  4. Not real sure what hitch I'm going with yet but the plug and play wiring looks like the way to go. I've got a little time. The wife won't be able to ride again until the end of August again. As soon as she's able we'll take a long weekend ride to test out the trailer for next summers trip. :cool10:
  5. Finally got a chance to pic up our trailer. Its an 02 Aluma MCT. We've been looking to add one and were able to find this one 50 miles from home at 2/3 what the dealers wanted for them. Just need to get a hitch and wire the Venture and were ready to roll. The wife can't wait. Now she can pack the essentials like extra shoe's!

    Our Venture

  7. Last July. Colorado home to Iowa. 800 miles in 13 hrs. and that included a stop 50 miles from home to put on rain gear. Drove thru 11 inch thunderstorms the last 50 miles!!!
  8. 20-50 Amsoil in my 01 Venture. Love the stuff.
  9. I just put a new set of E-3's on. I got 13,000 miles on the last rear and it was just down to the wear bars. They are a little louder that some other brands but thats what the stereo is for! I'm sold on them and would recommend them to anyone. Just my 2 cent's worth.
  10. I run 20-50 amsoil and motorcote and I'm very happy with it.
  11. Our Venture started out as a weekend cruiser for my wife. I always used the Honda shadow for commuting weather permitting. Our youngest turned 16 last year and wanted to ride bike instead of driving car. I use the Venture for work now and am loving every minute of it. I put on 220 miles a day.
  12. On my way to work thursday morning I had the bad luck of encountering a wayward raccoon. I saw him running straight down the center of the road so I slowed down and proceeded to go nice and wide around him. I got right next to him and he zigged right behind my front wheel and just barely hit underneath on the left hand side of the bike. So I stopped and got out the flashlight to see if anything was damaged. Turns out that little hit shattered both of my lower cowlings. Called the insurance and they were more concerned with me not getting hurt than any damage to my bike. Kind of nice dealing with someone like that for a change. Anyway, called around to check on parts and what a suprise that was. $817 for the pair of green lower cowlings and they have to be shipped from japan.
  13. As long as there is no ice, I'll ride down to 20. Nothing like seeing people look at you in their dash lights when you pass them at 3 in the morning with the stereo blasting away on the way to work!!!
  14. Yesterday I headed for work and it was 26 degrees all the way. Snow on the ground today. I planned on riding a lot longer but I looked at the front tire last night and she's bald. I guess I'll put her away for the winter and start riding the honda for a while yet. I'm really going to miss all the extras on the venture until next spring.
  15. :banana:I just made the switch yesterday from factory to HD muffflers. I went with FLH mufflers instead of the standard roadking's. No popping on decelleration on mine. All I can say is SWEEEEET!!! It doesn't sound like a standard HD. It reminds me more of the sound of a formula firebird I had back in the early 80's with hooker headers and thrush mufflers. Nice deep on idle but wow when you get after it. We always ride with ear plugs and the wife said she doesn't mind the sound going down the highway at all. She just loves the way people look at us in town.
