weather is usually nice along I-10, I think you would enjoy a ride to Old Tuson. old movie set. fun place to spend an afternoon. there are several small state roads in the area to enjoy some desert riding. just stay north of the Mexico border.

looks nice, looks very light weight has room, all you need. my only question is why have it sit for 11 months a year. this would be behind my bike every weekend for short or long trips. if you decide to get it , hope you enjoy it.

Have ridden to the Key West twice. As you get close to the end of the road there is a campground on the east side of the road at the water. I camped but I think there was a cabin or two. Had a great time on both trips. What was really fun was getting up and watching the sun rise over the atlantic and in the evening watching the sun set over the gulf. Also every evening there is a float parade at the pier on the gulf side. People come out and it's a party for many. Have a great trip and if you get a chance ride throgh the swamp Okie. National Park...you will see and can visit the smallest post office in the country.

It pirks my senses. I would retrace the home's previous owners. I would contact them if possible and see if there is a connection to this flag. Not only would it be fun, but you may have found a piece of history for a family that forgot the flag. Stored flags usually have a story and the story could be just helping a family or person that is missing it. If all fails then you can decide what you want to do with the flag.

If there was anything in your trunk, the kid may have pushed it into the split between the lid and base (like a glove, soft jacket) causing the lid to at as though it has spring tention. It doesn't take much in that area to cause what you have described. Hope he didn't bend or twist the hinges or spring one back. Good Luck.

I like the Timberline A frame style, 6 person tent. easy set up and take down. it is the perfect size for 2 people and tall enough to stand in and dress. have used this tent for years in all types of weather, with the fly waterproof and retains heat real well. Also use their 4 man A frame when I'm by myself. Very user freindly. One person can set this up after 2 or 3 times in less than 10 minutes. Can be found at Sportmans Whse. , I paid 299.00 on the net. Cabela's shows the 2 and 4 person tents in thier catalog. The 6 person is the way to go. Both ends completely open, with screened and covered windows, excellent air flow. when I travel with my trailer I carry 2 cots, but usually sleep on a cabels self inflating matress, 25X78X2. One for your list to check out.

Wish I lived closer to ride that area, very pretty for colors. All the hard wood trees turnomg. Would be get to get back there in the fall someday. I'll be spending this weekend riding throught the rockies in Northern New mexico and Southern Colorado. Will make this run a couple of times during the month to get a pics comparison from the same spots. Hope it will show the color variations as the colors change. hope to post some pics if I ever figure that out. Not computer literate.

I use an Olympus, they have several models of slim line cameras with a veried price range. Excellect photos as good a quality as the high priced Nikon with a 50mm to 300mm zoom. Check them out on Amazon.com

I'm a little strange sometimes. But I get the best water proof yet breathable cover I can. Two reasons: 1) I like to cover my bike when traveling at night when staying in a Motel, so no one can see what bike is there and will steal the uncovered Harley in the next spot. 2nd) Most of the time I love to camp and carry a tent, but on days I've spent more time sight seeing and have to ride into the night I'll through my sleeping bag inside the cover and get my beauty sleep. Works well and have thought about carrying 2 covers, a light weight for the bike and the good one for sleeping. Try to stay in camp grounds with faculities so things are good. That's my way.

For myself, I don't drink and ride, but do ride with a few that do. Most have a beer or two during a long lunch break or sight seeing stop. But, I have confronted one or two that have had to much to drink. I advised them they ride in front and if they cause a crash or wreck do to their impaired state, I will be there to put the pieces in a zip lock baggie. Seamed to hit home with the problem drinkers when they ride with me. My personal view has always been to let adults seek their own boundries. I'm not for having my views control other peoples behavior, the government is alredy attempting to do that and is doing that evey day. So it comes down to ME. Do I want to ride with drinkers, speeders, racers today or go my own way. A everyone I ride with understands my positions and I understand theirs, so we ride together having a great time. Thanks.

Have used Metzelers for years, but no more. Returning from a trip last month, doing a 600 mi. day and stopped to get a bite to eat. Lucky I did because I always inspect my tires when I stop. Had the exact same problem and I mean the EXACT, except my steel wrap was showing. 150 miles from home and Sunday riding I-40 doing 55mph, no where to get help. Made it OK. The next week went to get new tires. Could only find Dunlop 404's but will be putting E3's on soon. Since I always look at my tires, I know they had 1/4 inch of thread above the wear indicators when I started the trip of 1500 mi. This is the first time I've had this problem with a metzeler, and it will be my last.

went to 3 rallies this weekend. one in Ignasio, Colorado, one in Durango, Colorado and then Mancos, Colorado. saw one RSV parked, but no one around. Thousands of HD's and maybe a hundred GW's. Oh well....

I've lived in New mexico most of my life and worked or traveled in all the lower 48. I'll take New Mexico for the all around good life. I live in Tijeras NM just east of Albuquerque in the mountains. Can ride almost year round. It gets cold but head south a little and the weather is pleasent. I usually ride to and from work and on a weekend or two between December and Feburary, but from March to November it is usually wheels down and crusing. Don't want you to think it doesn't get cold here, cause it does. The summer can get warm but very little if any humity and that makes for great riding March to November. The rides are enjoyable and you can be in Arizona, Colorado, Texas in just a few hours and not have to ride the same roads......more to come Shamue

best tire recommendation

used to run dunlops and had pretty good results, 2 up with trailer would get 8 to 10,000 mi. average. Now on the Venture it came with dunlops and got approx. 10,000 mi., 2 up no trailer. Second set I went with Metzlers. Put almost 14,000 mi. riding 2 up. For safety I'm having a new set mounted and installed this weekend, even though these tires look like there may be a couple of thousand miles left on them. But like most tires my experience has taught me that as the tire gets to the wear indicators, the rubber wears fast and so that's when I get new tires. I know Metzlers are not popular with a lot of people but comparing them, to the many different brands I used over 40 yrs. of riding touring bikes 2 up, I have to say I'm impressed..... at least for now. T or C (Truth or Consequences) New Mexico. or Las Cruces New Mexico. Both places offer mild weather through the winter and recreation opportunities close by. You can get to southern Arizona and Texas very easy and quickly. Great for day rides in both areas or can leave for days and have clear mild weather. Just a thought, google these areas they are definately worth checking into.

I also have looked for riders in the area, New Mexico. And found most have expired memberships. I've taken this to mean they don't ride much or are anti-social. I have found a few harley riders in the Alb. area to ride with when the weather is perfect. Short 100 milers. They aren't much for taking a weekend run somewhere. Pretty much given up, So my wife and I run to Colordo or Northern Nm as often as we can. This is a busy time of the year for us and won't be able to ride except to work until September. This summer we have ridden around Utah, Arizona, Colorado on different trips. There are plans for a quick trip to Las Vegas in Sept. But to answer your question, I'm usually up for a ride anytime I'm free and think it would be great to meet around the state. Shamue

I would definately stay at Mesa Verde National Park. Nice camp ground and faculities, warm showers. Then in Durango definately a good place to eat and be intertained is the Bar D Chuckwagon BBQ.

Hope you had time to go to the Bar D Chuckwagon BBQ.

I've ridden most and think preferance is the most important issue when purchasing a bike. What, you like and fits your expectations and wallet. If you feel you are getting what you want at the price your willing to pay. Rode a Harley for years, good bike, high maintance and a lot of it if you put 20 to 30 thousand miles on each year. A little noisey and got tired of the vibration, even the new ones vibrate too much for me. BMW, great touring machine, many miles at high speeds criss crossing the country. Just found it never really felt balanced riding two up with my gear. Definately a nice ride in the mountains. Now, Gold Wings are in a market created by those willing to pay the price. Very nice touring machine and it has all the goodies. I would buy another one except not enough bang for the buck. I remember in 1982 riding my Gold Wing which I put 177,000 miles on before retiring it, Honda did a market survey asking owners what they wanted in a touring bike. I must say, the survey must have had everthing except the kitchen sink. A focus was made on what a person would pay for he ideal touring machine. GW's then were selling for around $6,000. People responded saying they would pay up to $20,000. for a GW touring bike. Well Honda took it to heart because soon the changes came and the price did to. The Honda high end nitch was born and Honda is not turning back. Now, my RSV is reasonably priced for a high milage touring machine providing me with what I need. With a confortable ride capable of doing 600+ miles a day with out getting worn out. 2 up with all my gear it rides great and has power, balance and milage. Each, of these Motorcycles has it's own nich and each rider has there various brand attidutes. I have found most people that spend $15,000 TO $30,000 thousand for a motorcycle won't admitt they made a mistake in buying the MC they are riding. BUT, I do know one thing...........when touring across the country on any motorcycle people always come up and want to talk about my travels and have one thing in common. THEY ALL WANT TO TAKE OFF AND RIDE A MOTORCYLE CROSS COUNTRY. THE COMMENT I HEAR MOST AS THEY TRUN TO WALK AWAY IS....... I'M GONNA DO THAT SOME DAY I'M JUST GLAD I'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR 40 YRS. On my old '81 GW, I had a serious crack in the trunk lid, was able to use ABS glue for the repair and it looked good and strong, but to make sure there would be no future problem I took a piece of ABS plastic and glued it to the inside over the crack as a patch. Was able to shape the patch piece by using some heat as the surface was curved. Never had any more problem and the patch was very strong and I tried hard to break it apart. I also used shavings of ABS to fill in the outside seam, then sanded the area for new paint. When all said and done you could not tell from the outside there was ever a crack and the only thing giving away there may have been a problem was the patch inside. Lasted for years and to this day continues to not be a problem for he guy that bought the bike. Good Luck.

Altitude pulling hf trailer
Shamue replied to casabroker's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Regular gas will be fine, actually recommended at high altitudes. Sea level you may want a higher octane if you are spending a lot of time a below 2000-3000 feet. Have pulled a trailer 60,000 miles and been al through the Rockies, Tetons as high as 11,000 feet. Usually in 3rd or 4th gear and able to keep the speed limit. Plenty of power in the lower gears, but have been caught in 5th a few times and it wouldn't pull it own weight. So I think you'll be fine with regular gas just be in the right gear. It doesn't hurt to run these Ventures in lower gears and higher rpms. Shamue -
Sorry I missed you, have been traveling to Scottsbluff several times the last 2 years to watch my Daugther on the WNCC Softball team. Many times rode my RSV. Last year was her last year there and now she's off to Northwestern Oklahoma. I still plan on attending a couple of games next year and visiting with Coach Winn. I'll make sure to remember to PM you with details of dates and times. Shamue
