  1. Sailor

    Gun Club

I know this is off the subject of bikes but since guns seem to come up here frequently I just thought I would post this. Please do not feel obligated, it is our battle but your e-mail would help. On Saltspring we have a Rod and Gun club. A developer has bought the property next door and is trying to have the club shut down. We have been blindsided by the local ruling body ( the Capitol Regional District) in that they are about to pass bylaws which would basically shut down our club so the developer can make himself richer. They are doing this without any consultation with the club or the community. We got notice yesterday ( Monday, Sept 17 ) that they were going to consider this bylaw on Wed Sept 19. This leaves us little time to respond. If you feel like helping e-mail your opinion to the following people. directorjdf@crd.bc.ca directorsgi@crd.bc.ca directorssi@crd.bc.ca ssirodandgun@gmail.com Thanks ...Sailor aka Rainman aka Kerry Butler
  2. Wayne Jr and Grace have a baby girl, Kylie Mae Wilson. Born at 11:02pm Sept 15th. 7lb6oz, 19inch.
  3. Well, we were looking forward to finally getting some riding time in again after my 2 knee surgerys. But it looks like I will be putting it off for even longer now. The VA has finally decided my knee needs to be replaced and waiting any longer is pointless. Guess it helped that I had to have 2 surgeries inside of a year. Course the bad thing is my last surgery was June 1st, now I have to have the replacement on Sept. 20th. Oh well no rest for the wicked. So I have a quesion for anyone that has gone through this, how long were you down? How long after that was it before you were comfortable riding again? TIA Joe
  4. I placed an order back on Aug 22 for the HID Motorcycle kit. They sent me an email with a tracking number that Monday. A couple of days later, used the tracking and it said received notice to ship. So I called HIDCountry, they said we thought we would be sending it out, but the item is on back order, will be sent the following week. This went on until last Tuesday, Sept 13. Was told parts are in, would be shipping to me and have it by Thursday, Sept 15. Called Friday, Sept 16, told them no email, no tracking number, and no package. Was told don't know what happened but will ship tonight, well of course not package Tuesday or today. Called yesterday and today, no answer nor no response to emails. So now I am left with credit card company fighting this, but just wanted to let all know NOT to use this company.
  5. Saturday, Sept 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!! AYE MATEYS!!! http://www.talklikeapirate.com/piratehome.html
  6. I went to the American Yamaha website this morning looking for any news regarding new bikes for 2012. As I suspected, not much there. They do have a schedule of demo days starting in Colorado on Sept 8/2011. You'd think they would have their new models to roll out at these events. Has anyone heard of when they may announce their new line-up? Ron:confused24:
  7. I am planning a meet and eat for Sept 4th at Provinos Italian restaurant in Snellville Ga, Thats Labor day weekend and the 4th is a sunday, Time 2:30 Pm Place 2050 East Main Street 770-972-8411 Web site http://www.provinos.com/index.htm I will need to know if you are going to make it by Aug 20th so I can give them a close count if there is enough we will have the back room otherwise its seating as available. The food here is consistently great Mini and I go there when ever we are in the area and Blackjack is around the corner and likes the place as musch as we do.. Hope to see you there. Jeff and Margaret
  8. Yeah, You guessed it.....Linda and I are leaving for a long ride. We are taking a group on a trip to Northern California for 3 weeks and won't be back home until Sept 18th. So the set of seats that Dave Van Curler is sending me, will be the last ones that I'll have time to rework before I leave out Sept 1st. So if any of you want me to rework a seat (s), you will have to wait until after Sept 18th. This is usually the slow time of the year for my seat work, but you would have thought that I was having a sale on RSTD seats, where I've reworked 4 sets in the last week or so, not to mention a few pillow tops and a Vulkin? So I'll let you know when I'm back, Rick
  9. Planning to ride out to the Dragon in late Sept and spend about 6 days out on the road. IF anyone is interested in riding along or meeting up please post here. Dates can be OPEN but, as of now, my vacation starts Sept 25 for a week. Now, also I would like recommendations on where to stay and what to see in the area including NC/Tenn/Va. I am interested in Riding the Dragon of course but, also want to ride the Blue Ridge and Cherolaka Hwy, as well as any other recommendations here. I dont think I want to spend all the time right down the street from the Dragon (hwy 129) as I know there are a lot of other things to see in this part of the country. I am planning on leaving really early on the 25th and want to be back within the week. I plan to do a Iron Butt ride to get as far along as I can and I think it will be about 800mi or almost there. I like Senery, twistys and good food, so what do you say! What should I see? Ride? Eat? Can't leave earlier to go to Ashville meet so this will be my chance to see the area. James
  10. Left home on 1 Sept. Got home today, 18 Sept. 4200+ miles. Great time, no mishaps. Full report with pictures tomorrow... I'm tired. As promised... see below.

Does anyone know or have heard when the new yammies are coming out this year, I don't care what they might have on them as much as a date on when.. Seems like last year it was around mid Sept.
  12. All the people here had great ideas but I ended up at walmart to go shopping and found a percolate pot plus a nice seasoning cart and a toaster the only thing is anyone gonna come visit me the end of sept. Plus I put new tires rims and valve stems on the trailer. I am so looking forward to get out of dodge.
  13. Hello Everyone. Just trying to put together a bike trip this Sept. Was planning to going to Billings, then south to Red Lodge and head for Cooke City, and keep going west to exit park and head for Livingston. I expect some very cool temps in the pass, but hope this is a good choice for route? Does someone have better suggestions? We plan to keep heading west and eventually head up to BC and the Nelson area before turning back east to home. Maybe we should do the trip in the reverse direction? Open to all ideas. Would like to do Chief Joseph also but perhaps save that for next year on the way to Cody? Thanks.
  14. I am planning my ride to the Smokey Mnts Sept 24th from Fl and found that if you camp in any Ga state park Sept 25th it is free. I am planning to camp here on the 24th http://www.gastateparks.org/GeorgeLSmith then here on the 25th just below the mnt's to take advantage of the free camping http://www.gastateparks.org/BlackRockMountain I got my new tires for the trailer and can't wait to hit the road and hopefully meet some more Venture riders.
  15. the meramec state park meet in sullivan, mo., is posted on the calender, and under rides and rallies. the dates are sept. 9th, 10th, and 11th, 2010. check it out.
  16. New Mexico !! I would like to get some of the the things the east coasters have started here in the west !! Im going to run an ad in the local paper to see who I can bring together on a given weekend before the sept aspencade rally. the first event should be a good turn out to that rally here !
  17. anyone interested in getting together at meramec state park in mo.. i was thinking of staying a couple of days at the motel in the meramec state park. any one interested in joining us. the dates will be the 17th and 18th of sept. or what ever else people may think would be better. the weather should be perfect than and it is in the middle of the best riding in mo. the motel is in the woods, and is very nice. the rooms are $60.00 a night. if the motel is booked because of labor day i will make the dates the 24th and 25th of sept. or the 27th and 28th 0f august 2010. what ever works best. just a spur of the moment idea i had since i canceled the meet i was going to have there earlier in the year. finally getting some time off work to do some stuff and i'm taking of advantage of it. let me know.

    Surrender

I know that we have many active and retired military personnel on this site and I thought that this might be a piece of history that may intereset you. Ian http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=vcnH_kF1zXc&feature=player_embedded This is the official film made of the surrender ceremony of the Japanese to McArthur in Tokyo Bay Sept 1945, with the actual voice of the General. Apparently this has never been shown to the general public before.
  19. Well hello all! I just want to start a thread regarding a trip that Dragerman, Rob and myself are planning, it is just in the initial stages of planning right now. We are headed to Deals Gap on Sept 21. Any and all members in the area, or on the way would be more than welcome to join us. This is a Monday to Friday. I think we want to avoid the weekend. And we are also planning on riding the Blue Ridge on the way back to Ontario. I have talked to a few people, and everyone has suggestions and routes, things to see and do. So here is the place to put them. I think all who are thinking of going, should meet up at some point to discuss the details. The trip will be informal, and unrushed. So, who's in? I know I talked to a few about it at Carls weeks back, so get on board, and let's get this show on the road! Literally!
  20. If you're like most avid riders, you put a lot of miles / kilometers on your bike, and the RSV is quite the nice bike for all those miles under the wheels.. But how much are you actually riding? I bought my bike with 20,000 miles on it last July and just turned 52,000 miles in Sept.. That's 32,000 miles in 14 months? The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,902 mi / 40,076 km How far did you get on your bike? Food for thought eh?

  22. Sept 1 and 44deg in the morning there is something wrong with this.
  23. I know it must be here somewhere but I cant find it! Can someone please tell me when the St Jude ride is for this year? I know there was some question about sept 12 but I never have heard if there was another date set.
  24. I'll be riding East in September for a few weeks. Plan is to leave NM around the 5th sept. head to DC Vietnam Memorial and others, then travel the Blue Ridge Pwy down to Asheville NC. East to Wilson and Top Sail Beach NC. Plan to turn back West there and hug the gulf coast with side trips getting back to NM around Sept. 25th. Looking for good places to camp and the mom and pop places to eat. Love BBQ. Been this way several times by myself but it's always good to here from others that have special rides, places to stay and eat. This will be my brother's first trip cross country on a MC and need to get him hooked. I'm riding an 08 RSV he will be on an 09 HD Electra. This may seem early to plan but I'm the type that likes to see the out of the way places, and do the back roads. Would like to meet members on the route as I feel like the Lone Ranger out here. Thanks.
  25. It looks like I will not be going to bike week. I am in the process of buying my first home and I am using some of my vacation to do it but I am still planning on doing the Blue Ridge Parkway in early Sept. I so wanted to go camping at the Cabbage Patch but other things in life take precedence. Maybe next year. Tom:bang head:
