  1. Anyone planning to go to the festival? I'm considering going and camping. http://www.jerusalemridgefestival.org/about_jerusalem_ridge/
  2. I couldn't get away for the Asheville rally which I'm sure must have been amazing. I was able to get away Monday and rode down to NC and Tennessee. I rode the Dragon, Skyway, foothills parkway, smokey mountins and into the Blue Ridge parkway. I camped on the Blue Ridge last night. 4 camp sites away there was a bear incident that I could hear. The guys tent, BBQ and cooler was destroyed. I didn't get much sleep after that so I pulled into the KOA early so I'll be more alert tomorrow. Beautiful riding all around here
  3. This is one of the roads we usually ride at The Asheville rally. It now has a name and has photographic coverage my Blind Kenny. If you are ever in western NC this is a must ride. The ride starts in Marion NC and ends in Micaville NC crossing the Blue Ridge parkway.16 miles long with 2000 ft elevation change. If in the area The Diamondback US226a is about 10 miles away.Another must ride. http://www.thedevilnc80.com/
  4. With the recent talk of bluegrass, I was wondering if any of you had ever been or are planning on going this year. It sounds like an awesome time to me. Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Celebration 2011 September 27-October 2, 2011, Rosine, Kentucky Steve
  5. I had an ice dam form and start leaking into my livingroom overnight, we awoke to find our couch and carpet soaked, and a hole in the drywall ceiling We may get a small ice dam every now and then, but , with all the snow we have had and a little freezing rain, it had blocked the ridge venting on the roof allowing it to create the ice. Just a little reminder to those that have the ridge venting, look at your roof, if you can't see that the ridge vents are clear, you may be next to have this damage inside your home.
  6. Got this info off another site. I have verified the information and it is correct. Just FYI - There will be a huge BICYCLE ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday, August 29th. This is for the area roughly from Blowing Rock, past Grandfather Mountain and the Linville Cove Viaduct, to the Linville Falls highway exit, basically mile markers 290 - 320. The bicycles will also be traveling on sections of Hwy 221 and other roads in that area. It is an event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have no idea how many bicyclists will actually be participating, but please be careful if you are riding or driving in that area. A motorcycle-bicycle "meeting" is a huge hazard for both sets of 2 wheels. Ride safe!
  7. Good Morning Everyone! I'm about to ride the Blue ridge 2 up on my 08 RSV. I was wondering if anyone would suggest to me what I should check over before I go. I presently have 10K on the bike and will be riding about 1200 miles. Thank you for your suggestions. Frank
  8. The Blue Ridge Park Way July 2009. About eight of us had the opportunity to make the trip. We started at Front Royal Skyline Drive Shenandoah National Park Virginia. Ended up at Cherokee, North Carolina. We stayed at all the Lodges. It's truly one adventure that we will never forget. Two nights at each lodge would be about right. There is so much to do up there. We went with about eight friends and they were great and a lot of fun. If you do get that chance to go, get the Blue Ridge Park Way Book. I know the trip is a little pricey, but it's worth it. *********************************************************************** Sorry for removing the video, Due to an e-mail from youtube saying I could be in trouble with Sony. It's a copyright Issue. (the music) so I removed it for now. I must be interupting their billion dollar industry. It was a cool video. 9. Has anyone ridden Hwy 60 called Morgantown Hwy from Dahlonega to Blue Ridge? I am headed up to Blue Ridge Thursday and usually go to Blairsville and take the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway to Blue Ridge. Looking at the map I thought this time I might take Hwy 60 and wondered if anyone had any experience on it?
  10. Hey all, wife and i are wanting to leave Huntington, W.Va and take a three day ride down to blue ridge parkway, anyone have specific route info and any great places to stay down thru there. Thanks Brian D.
  11. Well, this vacation is about over (currrently in a little hamburg in Kansas) We trailored the bike out from Iowa due to not having a side car for the youngest . Went to Scottsbluff Neb first to visit family then to Grand Canyon. Trail Ridge road was a BLAST. Loved the scenery. Wife road behind in truck and got some video which I'll put on my space later. Only got rain 1 day and it was the day that it was free for everyone... so you can imagine what it was like between the rain and everybody stopping every 100 feet. Anyway, here's a few pics. God Bless. P.S. looking forward to Arkansas and Cody next.
  12. Well I go for my MRI today to see if I need surgery on my right shoulder I think my summer riding is over.I pray that I will be able to ride back to the Blue Ridge Parkway Labor day week.
  13. I am not being nosey! Just wondered where every one is planning on riding to this summer. I know where I want to travel; I am never sure if it will happen or not. I want to go the Smokies again, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and probably down in Kentucky to take some of the distillery tours. I also would love to go to some Blue Grass Festivals. Of course, to Freebird's MD. Yama Mama
  14. It looks like I will not be going to bike week. I am in the process of buying my first home and I am using some of my vacation to do it but I am still planning on doing the Blue Ridge Parkway in early Sept. I so wanted to go camping at the Cabbage Patch but other things in life take precedence. Maybe next year. Tom:bang head:
  15. Diane and I are planning on riding all of the Skyway & Blue Ridge Parkway this summer. I know a lot of you have done this. We are planing on staying the first night in Front Royal in Virgina. Has any one stayed in that area before? I see there is a Super 8 any others? The next stop would be Peaks of Otter It's about 192 miles, I'm not sure if we can cover 192 miles of Skyway & Blue Ridge Parkway in one day. Has any one done this before? How many miles can one cover in one day on the Ridge? Has anyone stayed at the Peaks of Otter Lodge or the Doughton Lodge or the Mt. Pisgah Lodge? Any information will be greatly appreciated! Thank you
  16. Not a big deal to some maybe, but I just got tired of looking at my mug standing on top of Grandfather Mtn...Decided a change was needed....Found this in my pixs folder...German Shepherd in a sidecar on the Blue Ridge Pkwy one afternoon I was riding... Just too cool not to use as a Avatar... George In Virginia
  17. These are pics from my trip through Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parway Labor day week I drove from Mass to Ft Pierce Fla that week and the weather was awsome. I camped out every day.
  18. I have four questions: Your feedback is much appreciated. *The rear shock - please explain the air pressure and identifying the proper pressure for a two up situation (is there a better more robust shock or spring to retrofit?) *Do you know if by using the the Barons Star Bar w / Barons Riser Extensions, do you need to change the cables? *Do you have a list of retrofits / fixes which should be done while the ferring is off the machine? *Tire wear issues: Droped off the machine to the repair shop for the 15K inspection. Prior to, I noticed some unusual wear in both the front and rear tire. Front - a very slight ridge running the entire right of center circumference of the tire, the rear just the opposite side. With the repair shop, we agreed it is time for a new set of tires. ( I run Mich. Comm. for two up conditions PSI F 40 (12k miles) R 44~46(8k miles) ) I check pressure before each run. Shortly thereafter, I went over to a buddies house to speak to him and check his tire wear. He has a VStar1100. He runs Metzlers. Respectfully, his tires show exactly the same type of tire wear, a slight ridge both left of center front and opposite in the rear. While discussing this, another rider pal shows up, another VStar1100 running Dunlops. the same issue, but the exact opposite with regard to front and back wear. Front ridge found to be right of center and so on. Both riders meticulous about T-Clock inspections and so fourth. I am wondering if this wear pattern is seen on all bikes. Only Yamahas Star bikes?? Any ideas. Two different bike models, three different tire manufacturers, and a good maintenance track record. Thank you all for your time and patience. Respectfully, R. Bustamante Long Island, NY
  19. Anybody ever delt with this place http://www.prestigecamera.com/ViewProduct.aspx?ID=3645363&l=LOWPRICEDIGITAL ? They have the Zuma 550 for $479. That is almost too good to be true. After the week long ride on the Blue Ridge, the wife wants something that will help locate hotels and shopping areas. God Bless her.
  20. Hi Folks. Zooby and I are headed down to do the Dragons Tail and the Blue Ridge at the end of the month. We are planning a quick run down to Ashville, and then riding the Blue Ridge back. If anyone has any recommendations such as where to camp, what to see and what to avoid, we would very much appreciate the help. Thanks
  21. I recently posted a comment regarding my first ride of the 2008 season and how happy I am with my V-Max rear end exchange. Anyway...some interest developed and I have decided to post some of my comments over here for others to see and add to. I know others here have also done this exchange, including Don (Freebird) and with this being the start of the riding season for most I thought others might like to hear about this exchange. Well this is a most unusual year for me. Usually my first ride of the season here in Western New York the temperatures are in the high 30's to mid 40's. Today the temps seemed to be in the mid-60's to low 70's and this is the first year I waited so long to get in my first ride of the year. Put on about 115 miles and the bike purred like a kitten. She was put away with stabil and the octane seemed just fine. I filled up and found that I got around 36 mpg (riding her hard). I did the VMax swap out so I was pleased with the mileage because I hoped on the Thruway and rode around 70-75mph. I took it up to 100 mph a couple of times to make sure the plugs stayed clean and the gas burned fast. The VMax swap out is the absolute best performance improvement you can do for the Venture with a modest investment! The V-Max swap out is taking the rear end gears from the V-Max and putting them into the Venture. There is a vendor who is listed here "Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax" from the Eastern Pennsylvania area who specializes in doing this. The gearing in the V-Max, when placed in the Venture will lower 5th gear (not as high) and add more torque in all the lower gears, which improves two up riding and towing a trailer. Many of us believe that this is the way Yamaha should have went in the first place. Interestingly, many V-Max riders prefer the Venture set up as it gives them a higher 5th gear. A few of us here, including our host Don (Freebird) have done this swap out. Blue Ridge will sell you the rear-end (with the appropriate drill out for your speedo connection) for around $300.00 with you sending him your Venture rear-end gears as a core exchange. My daughter lives in Pa. about 15 minutes from John's shop (Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax). John is an interesting fellow, specializes in V-Max's and custom bikes. After talking to John and others about the swap-out the wife and I visited our daughter for a week last Labor Day and I had John perform the swap out. The difference was night and day, best improvement I have ever seen on a bike, plenty of power and torque in all gears, no problem two up in hills or while towing...ride improvement was considerable and no more lugging while running through small towns. There are links here to Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax...but here is their site address... http://www.rmsportmax.com/ Everytime I hop on this bike now I am satisfied and impressed with this improvement!
  22. hi everyone gotta love the snow! Everyday its here its one less day to look at it . Any way vacation next year is a trip down skyline drive and part of the blue ridge parkway, then down to the keys. Once in florida espicially in the southern part anyone have recomendations on camp grounds?
  23. A friend and I just completed one of the most spectacular trips that I have been on, and it was in my backyard. We started at Front Royal,Va and rode the 105 miles of the Shenandoah National Park. The Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive) ends and the Blue Ridge Parkway begins. We rode the 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway from beginning to end. The Parkway ends in Cherokee, NC. We then rode to the Dragon. Although, I was at Vogel and the Dragon in August with VentureRiders, and even though, I have been riding the Parkway for years, it is the first time that I have ridden from the Shenandoah and completely through the Blue Ridge on a single trip. We ended up doing over 700 miles of nothing but mountain roads in 4 days and a total of 1300 miles in 6 days. You can easily ride the Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge in 3 days. We took our time and stopped at a lot of overlooks. The scenery was spectacular. The weather was great. We ran into rain on the last day when we returning home. The wildlife was great. We saw dozens of deer, scores of turkeys, several hawks, and even 2 black bear at 2 different times. One of the bears was on the shoulder of the road. The other bear was in the road. We were not even sure that it was going to run away to begin with, but it did. I have been going to the Blue Ridge since I was a kid, and have never seen a Black Bear there. How lucky can you get to see 2 of them on the same trip. Everything about the trip was great. We met lots of great people on motorcycles along the way. If you want a spectacular and memorable trip, I strongly recommend this route. It gave me a different perspective of my own backyard. Now for my Harley riding, high school friend;Bruce. He is retired Air Force and lives in Dover,De. He has owned his Harley for 4 years, and this was his first trip that he has taken on it without towing it in it's enclosed trailer. He found out that it is much more enjoyable to ride your bike than to tow it. I think I have him hooked on riding it now. The farthest he had ridden on any trip before this was 300 miles, and that was only once. Now I have to teach him how to pack. As you can see by the pictures, he had the trunk and both saddlebags packed, the trunk rack packed, a bag on the passenger seat, and then bags stacked on them. This was for a 6 day trip. All the bikers poked fun at him for bringing so much stuff. We got ask several times where we were camping at. I would be laughing while he explained we were not camping. We stayed at a motel every night. I would grab my Beer 30 made trunk bag and go into the motel room. I had one saddle bag empty and an empty bag on my trunk rack. He had to get a cart every night to haul his stuff in the room. And I got to sleep until he got his bike loaded every morning. But hey, the rookie had to learn, and he did. All the razzing aside, we had a great trip and I highly recommend this route to you. And one final note. The dam in the picture is Fugitive Dam in NC. That is where Harrison Ford did the swan dive while Tommy Lee Jones was holding a gun on him in the movie The Fugitive.
