  1. like most i have had occassion to block rooms and treat it the same way as if i was traveling for business. emails of any details or requirements and costs. since the computer age i have had little problem defending issues the motels / hotels bring up. a few years back a motel charged my card for a couple of nights i had emailed and changed, they responded with an email the change was in time not to cause a charge. well the emails we brought to their attention and got the charge reversed. email or paper always try to leave a trail.
  2. Maybe I'll see another VR rider in the area. Not much luck running into another VR rider in this area that is a member, but I post anyway. A few of us will be riding from Albuquerque NM to the Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire NM the Saturday. From there plans are to ride to Red River for the MC Rally. Mid afternoon we will split up and a few will return to Albuquerque and a few will continue to ride. We will ride North into Colorada and west over Wolf Creek Pass to spend the night in Durango. Sunday will be spent riding the loop to Silverton, Ridgway, Telluride, and back to Durango. We will be attending the Bar D Wrangler BBQ just north of Durango for Dinner and then DQ for ice cream. Monday will be the ride Back to Albuquerque by way of Pagosa Springs CO, Chama NM, Tres Predas and Taos. Hope to see someone in the VR family if your in the area. Shamue
  3. use regular unleaded (86 octaneor so) at high elevations, if at sea level higher grades (90 octane plus) may help if performance is questionable. remember to use the lower gears. i ride the rockies all the time and never had a real problem, just down shift.
  4. just a thought, if it has electronic ignition. the module is under the dist. cap. and are known for becoming intermittent as they go bad and it's usually after it has been running and the module is hot when you shut the engine down. I would suggest replacing that module if electronic ign. the 2 very small connection wires can break down inside the sheathing and cause the same issue as described. so i agree with several here, the dist. electronics would be the place i'd start.
  5. I like the way you mounted the spare. What sort of clearence do you have to the ground. I want to mount a spare that way but there are so many speed bumps now in many federal and state parks, I've been reluctant to mount a spare under the trailer tongue. As a test, I attached my spare to the trailer tongue to get a measurement on level ground and get 5 1/2 inches clearance to the tire. Not enough for piece of mind.
  6. i would put my decals on the back of the saddlebags under the rear turn signal on the flat surface. So people behind can see them.
  7. I'll be there at the end of April. It will be a quick trip, riding up April 29th and returning May 1st. It's 650 miles each way. My daugther attended WNCC on a softball scholarship and had to give up playing due the effects of scleroderma, but continued as a student assistant coach. Each year the softball program has fundraiser games to raise money for the scleroderma foundation. Special uniform shirts worm by the players are autioned off as well as proceeds from the gate and concession being part of the fundraiser. My wife and I will be riding up to and meeting with our daugther that is driving in from Northwestern Oklahoma University, where she attends college as a student assist for their softball program. So it looks like I'll be at Cougar field all day Saturday, April 30th. I will carry you # and hope to be able to meet you while there. Shamue
  8. The pump is being covered by warranty, but I had to remind them of the 5yr unlimited milage. The service writer/mgr is new, just started 2 weeks ago after being with a Honda dealer for the past 5 yrs and a HD dealer for 12 before that. I also told him to check everything on the RSV and correct anything that is covered by warrany wheel to wheel, I would not be a happy camper if I pick up the bike and find something that should have been corrected. Will see...
  9. Thanks for the responces. I'm on my way to get this set up as a spare.
  10. 2008 RSV, Fuel pump will not hold proper pressure. Bike runs a little week. Have one on order. Does anyone know the out-put operating pressure of the OEM fuel pump? Or where this information can be found. I have this idea I can find an after market pump to carry on trips as a back up, if I can get the specs on the OEM pump. Have had success doing this with Cages. Used to work in auto part industry and saved a lot of people money on pumps for Volvos and BMWs back 8 or so years. Thanks.
  11. Agree your battery doesn't have the poop it needs, but also check your altenator. a bad altenator will make your lights go bright to dim as it is going out. just a thought to check on.
  12. You should be able to find an sloted (key) axel washer that will fit you axel and bearings at Napa or Carquest in their help line of axel washers and nuts.
  13. check out the Timberline 6 person A-frame. Been using a 6 man for a couple yrs and it is roomy, sets up in 5 min. and tear douwn is as fast once you get the hang of it. packs in a sleve 8 inches round and 26 inches long weight is + - 12 pounds.
  14. This afternoon at 4:00pm saw a RSV gray and silver traveling south on Jefferson St at Osuna RD. Rider was wearing a white full face helmet, black jacket with a red yoke. Nice clean looking RSV.
  15. Well I ordered a RSV hitch from hillis73. It arrived today and I am very impressed. Great quality, design and finish. The Photos don't do it justice. It's design also gives me a place to install a mud flap. I would and will recommend this hitch for everyone. Thanks you, Hillis Shamue
  16. I have ridden in death valley a few times and carried extra gas and was glad i did. I used 2 red aluminum water bottes with aluminum screw caps (tops) that seal with an o-ring. worked great and gave me 1.5 ltrs of gas. put a GAS sticker on them and carry at least one if i'm going on a remote ride. works great.
  17. like the concept, with this idea and all the wires mice to add a couple more and have a running light or turn signal in leds on the back side
  18. it is a swivel hitch. if you notice it will track side to side and up and down. have saw a few of these type swivels 30 yrs ago. very functional and easy to make.
  19. I to have been reading this post off and on, so i'll relay similar story. years ago several of us guys and wifes or girlfriend rode together often as a group. a woman from one of the guys work wanted to ride on a motorcycle with us during a day ride through the mountains. then she asked to go more and more. as she rode on the back of one of the guy's bike a few times, we could tell her boyfriend was getting a little up tight, even though this was strickly a friendship relationship with her. we always welcomed him to ride, and could tell he was thinking something was up with the girl friend. not having a mc he went though the mc safety course and rented a bike. he rode with us and she rode on the back of one of our bikes. her boyfriend enjoyed the ride as we kept a pace and helped him through the ride, stopping often and taking in the points of interest. as we rode and as the day was winding down, her boyfriend made the comment, i have to get a mc, now i know why my girlfiend always wanted to ride with this group. well to keep this short, he did buy a mc and has become a very good rider. he joins us in our travels and she now has her own seat behind him. he now laughs about his feelings of jealiousy and has married her. so yes things can get touchy for a female riding on the back of another man's bike, if things stay as friends it can work out to benifit everyone. she gets to ride motorcycles and we got a pretty good riding buddy that would give you the shirt off his back.
  20. WAS looking for couple of extra helments and checked out.. leatherup.com .....and found what i was looking for. right now they have many helment on sale. a lot are almost half price. i was able to pick up 2 of the HAWK AP-80's for $70 each free shipping of orders over $90. these are 3/4 helments with a flip up face shield and the drop down dark lens. hadn't seen this in a helment since my days in the Air Force. while checking there are sales on clothing, leathers, jackets. if anyone is in need i would check their site... it may be on sale. good luck.
  21. must have had to have a reason to get ice cream to make it all better.
  22. if your ever in Vancover WA. check out Love's Leather just east of the interstate hwy. great name brand leather wear and carry there own brand. i purchased a leather jacket and chaps of high quality. the jacket has a removable liner and the chaps have a mesh to help keep them from sticking to you on hot days. before that i used Cabela's chaps made of kevlar, linered canvas, worked real well but were bulky and hot in the summer. would have kept using them until i bought the leathers. Love's Leathers has a web ad, and are getting set up to have a web page to order from. very friendly and great with customer service. and if you there around noon each day they serve a free bite to eat.
  23. you didn't mention the fuse or fuses if someone had been into this before. main power if coming off the battery may be bad. right after i got my 08 venture same problem occurred and after splitting the faring and using dilectric grease on the connections and getting them tight with electrical tape all has been well since. good luck
  24. If been thinking about building a sleeper also. Have been looking at a couple of 8ft long abs clam shell car top carriers. changing the clamshell hinges to end hinges and have a couple of side curtins made. open and prop the end up and lay in the carrier to sleep. have seen a couple wide enough for two, but would be a little tight (friendy) to sleep. Would be very light weight and would place a board as flooring. I would be able to carry my gear inside while traveling and may have room to store it inside when sleeping. if not would have a large water proof bag made to cover my gear. The bag would have a lock system to keep it attached to the trailer tounge. Just something simple and functional as I don't spent much time in camp and usually use State or National Parks with faculities.
