  1. For anyone who might be interested you can see pictures of the toy run at www.shutterjunkie.ca That takes you to his facebook site then scan to the toy run montage and click on www.shutterjunkie.ca Proof that santa rides a Venture, and it has to be a second gen so he can make it around the world in one night. I told the kids there that the reindeer were on summer vacation.
  2. A friend of mine just bought a brand new Harley. He was totaly impressed with the Harley dealer. The dealer gave him a $200.00 gift cert because his bike broke down on the road. It had 6000k on it, or just over 3000 miles. He missed the fact that the drive belt should not break in that short a distance. He also said that although my VR could run rings around his Harley all the girls would flock to his bike. Ain't seen it happen yet. I was thinking I should follow him and give the girls a ride home when he breaks down, but first he has to get a girl.

    headlight

First, I am an idiot when it comes to mechanical things or comfusers, er , computers. My headlight burnt out on my 02 and I am trying to figure out how to get the headlight out. When I take out the screw at the botom of the headlight ring I still can't get the ring off. What is the secret? Once I can get at the headlight it is no problem.
  4. I have had many sports cars and this particular MGA had two 6 volt batteries behind the seats. One dark night I was ripping down a back road and hit railroad tracks that had been built up. I launched and in mid air everything quit, the battery terminal had disconnected. I hit the road and reached back and re connected it, all at about 95mph in pitch black. I had my fairly new '85 Madura ( think V Max) and was sold on the power and 6 speed trans. One day I pulled out to pass a semi going uphill. There was another semi coming the other way but I figured I could make it. I got up level with the cab and everything quit. I glanced down and realized I had hit the 11500 rpm rev limiter (in testing this engine they ran it at 14000 rpm with no problems but thought that would be a little insane for the street) . I quickly up shifted and hit the gas and managed to shoot between the two semis. I am now a little more cautious.
  5. I was going to the coffee shop many years ago. I pulled up in front of the window and did a u-turn and came to a stop. The guys inside watched as I slowly disappeared. When I did not reappear they came out to find me lying there with my leg under the bike. My mind had been elsewhere and I had forgotten to put my foot down. We were having lifeboat drill, this was back in the days of oar power. A couple of us old hands were excused as we had done it so many times and this was for the newer guys. We watched as they launched the boat and tossed the oars. The other guy said "Do you see what I see?" I said " Yep, think we should tell them?" not being serious. He said "Nope, they will find out soon enough." They had gone about 50 feet when one of them yelled that they were sinking, they had forgotten to put in the plug.
  6. Coming back from Nelson there was one stretch where the limit is 100kph (62mph) and I was just going with the flow at 140kph (87mph) with some stretches at 160kph (100mph) and I was not passing many cars, they were all doing the same speed.
  7. It is amazing to see those hotels. Make sure to do Freemont street for the light show at night. We toured Bryce,Zion,Monument Valley,Valley of Fire and Red Rock and Grand Canyon.
  8. Wife and I went for a ride last weekend out to Sooke. It is a long winding road, very narrow with no shoulders. On a rare straight stretch I saw a car coming the other way start to drift over onto our side of the road. Just before I had to take evasive action it pulled back to its own side. As I passed I saw the woman driving trying to light her cigarette. On the ferry I see people sit in their car gazing out the window for the whole trip. As soon as they start moving off the ferry they grab their cell phone and start dialing.

    Santa Ride

Just came from another toy run meeting. Things are all firmed up. For info go to saltspringtoyrun, com
  10. Found a wallet out on the golf course. I checked it and found it belonged to a co worker who was on the course ahead of me. It had $700.00 in it. I caught up to him and after exchanging plesantries I asked to borrow $20.00. The look on his face when he reached for his wallet and found it wasn't there was priceless, the look on his face when I handed it to him was just as good. I found another wallet which had $400.00 in it. It belonged to the girl who cuts my hair. I went to her shop and gave it to her. She did not know she had lost it.
  11. Nelson is a nice bike friendly town. If you get to Kaslo be sure to tour the paddle wheeler there. It is the oldest intact one in North America.
  12. I wave at everyone, even HD riders. I don't expect them to wave back but it is nice when they do. Sometimes I can't wave...going into a tight corner, rough pavement, cage trying to cut me off, etc but in those cases I at least nod to them.
  13. I have to take a ferry ride to find a red light, or a green one for that matter. There was a problem with lights in B.C. and the bikers created enough of a fuss that the powers that be changed the settings on the sensors so that now they recognize bikes. Just to be sure I always park right over the sensor.
  14. Man! These rides are realy getting brutal, just look at that hangnail!
  15. Way to go guys! Look forward to seeing something. I am sure it was Nina's smile that did the trick. Next time you get over this way I can show you a clip of me on the tv show "Live it Up".
  16. Bottom line...I challenge any HD to go as far and as fast as any Venture and with the comfort and reliability. One thing about no changes is that the parts fit a wide range of years and get cheaper.

    Santa Ride

For more info google Salt Spring Island Toy Run. Just firmed up the campsite which is right next to Ganges, the main (only) town.
  18. Riding the ferry back to Saltspring after Nelson reminded me how much I miss being out on the water in my sailboat, or any boat. It also reminded me that being on a sailboat is a lot like being on a motorcycle. You can't fight the waves or the road, you have to ride with them. Get into the rhythm and ride the motion. It is just you and nature. I loved sailing at night and I like riding at night. I loved sailing during a storm and I like riding a winding, hilly road with no traffic.
  19. You mentioned it seemed to choke out. Do you mean flood? The rod from the choke knob to the carbs is very thin and prone to bending. This causes it to run with the choke on all the time.
  20. Nobody would shoot themselves in the back of the head. My two cents... a) Road rage...someone shot him and the deer was incidental. b) It is not a bullet wound but made by some other object during the accident. c) The gun went off by accident during the accident. d) The reporter screwed up the story. From personal experience my money is on d.
  21. Hold out apple, when deer reaches for it, whack him on the head with the hammer. Quiet and cheap. Saltspring style.
  22. The darn Bambi's are getting downright pushy. Yesterday Janet came home and one was lying down in her carport. It was nice and comfy and refused to move. I went out and explained that the weekend before we had BBQed one of his mates. He was not impressed. When I turned around I saw another one curled up in my carport next to the Merc. Have to get out the apple and the hammer.
  23. Rick...have you tried "Bent Bike"? There is one in Langley and another in Victoria. They have all kinds of used parts.
  24. If it is dusty there where you are you will get that noise. I have a fairly long gravel driveway and get that noise all the time.
  25. I find I have to tank up with a 1/4 tank left on the bars. The bike will run out before the bars do and long before the fuel light or signals come on. In fact they usually do not come on until after I have filled up and am on the road again. Then they briefly come on. I have become practiced at reaching down and switching over to reserve while the bike is moving.
