I had ride on in both my tires when I had a flat last month. Was getting off freeway one mile from home and bike started riding different. I made the mile but I had a hole dead center of tire and the ride on did not hold up. There was not a nail in the hole, just a small home dead center of rear tire. I plugged it and rode it that way for a couple of weeks until I could replace the tire. ( it was almost time anyway). I was somewhat disappointed in Ride on because of what I had heard hear and seen on various videos incuding ICE RACING videos that swear by the stuff. Not sure if I will invest in it again at this point. I was lucky this time as I was almost home but....

Petition signed. Here is another story about a great veteran: Ed Freeman You're a 19-year-old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter and you look up to see an unarmed Huey, but it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it. Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire as they load 2 or 3 of you on board. Then he flies you up and out, through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses. And he kept coming back, 13 more times, and took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out. Medal of Honor Recipient Ed Freeman died on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009, at the age of 80, in Boise, ID. May God rest his soul. We all owe our gratitude to those that serve!

thanks for the info everyone. I have already ordered the Mirror stainless now I just ahve to decide on the lights. There is a million types of LED's out there. My main concern is that they are visible and once mounted are nice lookin on the bike so as to please most people. I will check out the recommendations that are posted here and move forward from there. I am going to check Wally world and Trailer Wheel and frames over the next few weeks and see if I can't find something acceptable without paying $70 per light for brake LED lights. Clearance (amber) lights on the side dont seem to be an issue to find. The only thing hard to find is the two way Red Led's for brake lights. Someone mentioned changing a one way into a two way (stop/running) so I guess I will investigate that too. thanks for all the replies As soon as I get something put together I will post pics Jim

Welcome! The whine is not prevelant on all the bikes. Try to get the dealer/owner let you ride the bike ont he Hwy and you can tell what the whine is like. I ahve a 99 and its not that noticible on mine but does exist. I just removed the wheels and greased the splines etc and its not hard and docs are available under the tech section that show you how or we can help. You shouldn't need to grease but every few years, some have never been greased. There is little int he way of hard maintenance and with an 08 or 09 you will ahve the remainder of the 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty for issues. Most issues are small things that are relatively easy to resolve. See known issues in TECH section. Most of us get together for Maintenance Day and either work on our bikes or get assistance or learn how to accomplish some item. Feel free to ask for assistance once you get your bike and good luck on finding what you want. Jim

Ok, Gang I know some of you have additional led brake lights etc . I know one of them was Juggler with some nice lights on a folded piece of Stainless on the rear of his bike. Owen has some great flat Led lights on his bike. I am interested in adding new taillight/brake lights to the inside of the bag rails and also adding clearance (orange) lights to the outside portion of the bag rails with a piece of Mirror stainless that will screw to the inside side of the bag rails ( with the lighs there in between the upper and lower rail. Who can point me to a good source for the brake lights and clearance lights. I have looked high and low across the web and cant find anyting I am satified with so far for a brake light. Send me your ideas. If I can find the correct match I am going to make a chrome insert that goes in the saddle bag guards and holds both the side marker lights and the rear brake lights in one piece. I know most of you have seen the Diamond R 2 piece set that sells for $400 but I am going to attempt this with one piece of mirror stainless steel that wraps to the back for the taillight/brakelight. I have seen several bikes on this site that have add on lights. Let me know where you got you lights and what they look like. Once I can work out which lights to use I will post the Prototype and let you tell me what you think. I am trying to accomplish this and keep the cost low. I would appreciate any ideas that you think work. This will be available for all once I can put it together. Post your suggestions/pics and where to get the lights It will be appreciated Jim:smile11:

Well as some of you already know I changed out my tires Wednesday with the help of Ponch. I purchased Dunlop 404 WWW for the bike. No problems making the swap and giving the full grease job to the splines etc. Wow what a change these tires make. I ordered the 130's for the front and what a different ride this is now. I could already handle full lock turns and all the slow speed handling from a lot of practice but I have to admit that now it is considerably easier. The members who say the front end feels lighter aren't kidding. The ride is superb now with the new narrower tire. Significantly better ride at any speed. I no longer have to push the bike to get it to make a turn and the handlebars feel so light now compared to before. I took off this morning and went and rode the local twistys to see how they handled there and it was totally effortless to make the curves compared to before. If you haven't tried a bike with the narrower tire you need to try it. Again I would like to thank Ponch for his personal assistance and this site for all the information that is shared here which has allowed me to personally make changes to the bike and keep it running. Now for the before and after pictures. Have a great fathers day all you fathers. Jim

Today I replaced my Metzlers with new Dunlop WWW tires with the help of Ponch. Recieved the tires yesterday so, today I took the day off to remove the tires and work around the house. I was able to get a local repair shop to swap the tires in 3 hours so forget the house LOL. I was able to get the front wheel on by myself and Ponch came over about 2pm and showed me how to grease the splines etc. Then he helped me install the rear, torque everything correctly and reinstall the brakes. Got it all done from beginning to end in about a total of 3 hrs. I thought that was not bad for a newbie who had never done this. I really want to thank Ponch for his help and encouragement. Guys like Ponch make this site a wonderful experience. Kbay offered to jump in on Saturday to help me but, now instead I am going to assist him. Now Saturday Kbay and I will attack hit bike and see if we can get his splines etc greased As soon as I get the bike washed up a little I will post a picture of her with the new WWW's. She looks good now!

I have a plug in mine and have ridden with it like that for the past week. I was kinda bummed at the experience since I got a flat coming home and it happened on my street. ( lucky me). The reason I was bummed was because I had Ride-on in both tires and did no expect to be able to get a flat...but I did. Dead center in rear tire. I was able to limp home and put the bike up on my lift with the carbon one adapter and spun the tire around and around looking for issues and finally aired it up and heard the Hisssss. Found the hole (no nail etc) and pulled out my repair kit. I always carry a plug kit with air and emergency first aid kit. this kit had the soft gooey sticky long plugs. I cleaned the hole, inserted the plug, cut off all but 1/4 in on the outside and reaired up the tire. It has been good to go since then. I am changing tires in about a week thought since I have inspection coming up and the itires are borderline. Just my 2 cents

I need to get new tires and I want to change to WWW. I looked at the info here and decided I wanted to try the Avons but I was told by a dealer that the one suggested by this site for the Venture is no longer available in WWW. (correct weight ratings) V rating is all that is available. Who has WWW tires? What kind? Sizes? F/R? How do you like them? Should I get the 130 Avon WWW and then a different brand rear WWW? How about Dunlops WWW? I hear good things about the E 3's but cant find them listed in WWW. I need to order them this week as I am getting low on tread with inspections coming up plus I just had to plug the rear? What is the difference in a 150/90 b15 80h and a 170/80-hb15 (the avon in www that I can find). Should I get the Dunlop 404 in WWW rear and the Avon mt90B 16 74 h front tire in WWW or should/Can I use the Avon AM42 170/80-hb 15? All replys appreciated!!

My longest trip so far is a 4 day weekend to Kerrville this weekend with a paltry 1000m. Had a great time though. Ok, Now where you going next? Lynn says I can go riding where I want. signed Completely Jealous Jim

Just got back from the Twisted Sisters near Kerrville. We spent 4 days there for the weekend and it was great. My wife finally rode with me and spent the entire day on the ride with me ( she caged it there). We left Kerrville with our group from Houston SAT (Waller Road Dogs) and rode down Hwy 16 from Kerrville ( wow what a road with some turns past 90 degrees and speed limit of 10mph at some turns. Up and down and round and round we went over the hills and rivers. Down 16 to Medina then out 337 until Vanderpool and stopped at Vanderpool to see the MotorCycle Museum and eat some great pie. We hit rain on the way and ended up there for and hour and a half. We left there and headed to Leakey and stopped for food drinks and some patches and shirts. We saw the rain move off to the east so we headed the other way and went to Hwy 51 I think to go up and over to Hunt Tx and stop by Stonehenge for pictures. On the way back to Kerrville I think we crossed the Gudalupe river at least 8 times. Hwy 336 and 337 were really great roads that you had to be really careful in several areas due to the climb and drop on some of the turns but by far the most treacherous road was probably Hwy 16 South from Kerrville down to Median.Due to the rain I had to wait until today to hit Ranch road 335 and it was by far the most fun. This road undulated and turned in such a way that you could let go and just ride unlike the other 2 sisters. This road had me grinning from ear to ear before I was half way thru it. One section had you just going up and down, You could see the rise and fall of the road in front of you and when you top the hill you think where did the road go and suddenly down you go only to head back up again within seconds then a left or right turn heading up the hills and start all over again. We saw deer, goats, sheep, antelope, buffalo, kangaroo, porkupines, wild turkeys and wild hogs, and quite a few river crossings. We spent Sunday going over to Garner State Park( I promised the wife if she rode with me on Sat we could go where she wanted on Sunday). Then Monday we decided to get up early. Wife wanted to head back and said go ride and meet me at hoem later. OFF I went, Down Hwy 16 again to go to Bandera but when I got to Ranch road 337 my bike decided it wanted to try 337 again and off I went down 337 across to Medina, Leakey, Vanderpool and finally Camp Wood and up to 335 north to 41 then east to I-10 and finally down I-10 back to Tomball Tx. Wow today alone was 432 miles and I hit heavy heavy traffic about 70 imiles from Houston but got home in 5 hrs from Kerrville but was on the bike from 7:30 am till almost 4pm. I would do it again but not tomorrow LOL. Pictures will be posted tomorrow althought I dont have a lot since I had to try to get Lynn to take an ocassional picture. To Tom Sorry I missed your call. Phone decided to go dead on me. :sign woo hoo::7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:

Personally, I think visitors should get a full usage for 30 days and then if they do not join they should be restricted to just a front page and def not have access to the tech articles. There is a plethora of articles alonethat are worth 20 memberships. I have saved enough becasue of this site to pay 10 yrs memerships. Couldn't run me off with a dog!!! Good job Freebird!!! New members pay from the link on the left side of the page that says subscriptions. :2cents::beersign::beersign:

I have the stebel and mounted it in the stock location with a bracket from Carbon One here on this site. This horn willl blast and scare the cagers. Since I have had it I have had to use it 6 times and every time, you could see the jerk-back reaction of the cagers. Don't sit next to this horn when you honk it. No there is nothing going to help you if you are going 70 mph and someone pulls into you from 100 ft away except attention to your outs. However, if someone is trying to change into your lane or, you see someone ahead about to pull out you can let her rip and I guarantee you will get a response. I see their heads turn looking to see where the sound came from after I let er rip. Dump the orig horns and add these and it will be Money well spent regardless of which one you buy. I am thinking about adding a second on the other side of the bike I like the response I get so much.

You get to become a member and talk and ride/meet others who like the riding like you. Plus you get Expert knowledge on how to address issues. At this point you have paid $12 in dues and I would suggest that $12 was a really cheap amount to resolve your issue. Now, you can sit back and enjoy reading the post for a whole year without having to pay another 5Cents. What a deal. Personally, I want to see this site continue so, when I resolve an issue due to something/someone from this site I also reward the site with a small donation to say "Thank You" for making this possible. At any time the site owner could decide or become unable to continue this site so hopefully, a little change here and there will help keep this site available. A few extra dollars a year ain't gonna break me and besides if I am able to self-maintain what has it cost me to make a small donation?????????????????????????????????? Have fun with the new ride!! Just me opinion of course others may feel differently!!! :2cents:

tall vs short windscreens
jburrell replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
"This is all true and undisputable, until your wife of thirty eight years is complaining of the neck stress on a 2nd gen because you installed the short wide Show Chrome windshield." AMEN to that!!! IF MOMMA AIN'T HAPPY THEN NOBODY'S GONNA BE HAPPY!!!!!!!! ps. I vote for the Tall Wide Clearview to avoid the buffeting. I don't worry that much about EXACT MPG on a bike. I am getting 38.5 with the Tall/Wide. I burn so much gas just riding around a few mpg ain't gonna matter. Rody 400 miles this weekend and ended up back at home with nothing to show for it but a smile. :sign woo hoo: THATS ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!- 21 replies

Another Cruise Control Problem
jburrell replied to BJB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Please define how fast your were going and what gear you were in. The CC will not set unless you are above a specified speed. ( I believe). More info helps better resolve the issue. Your issue seems to sound like the electronics aren't setting the speed though. I also have this issue ocassionally but it only does it for a minute or two then straightens up. Currently, I have an issue with my switch hanging and not letting me depress it but if I play with it for amoment I can get it to release and let me set the CC. Freebird or squidley should be able to assist you as well as a number of people here on the site.
