  1. If you haven't found it yet, here is the link to the post with the service manual site one of the members put together for us. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384 You can download a PDF of the service manual for your bike and that will help you figure out how to do some of the items and where they are located at on the bike. And if you arent sure of something... Ask away here all you need too. Rick F.
  2. I have noticed at my local Home Depot that they also stock Seafoam and have it priced at $6.48 also I believe. I havent purchased any yet as I still have some left from the last time I found it on sale. It was located around the lawn mower section of Home Depot. Rick F.
  3. For my side cover vents I used a tie wrap and used a screw in the head part and and screwed it in the boss on the back side of the vent and then cut the strap to hit the indents on the back side of the vent. This provides the resistance needed to hold them in the position you set them in. I hope this helps. Rick F.
  4. We havent traded off but his wife has rode behind both of us and stated that the bigger windshield did block the buffeting a lot better she thought. I actually get better mileage then he did last year but he had electrical issue with his bike that was cleared up with a new fuse block. I am averaging about 42-45 MPH but I have also leaned the carbs down a bit so I cant say now much I lost if any. The comfort makes up for any mileage I might have lost in my opinion. Rick F.
  5. Mine is the GT25 model with a grey tint and the vent. I have attached a couple of photos that show a stock windshield and the GT25 on a couple of 89 VRs to help you compare and some pics of just the GT25. I choose the grey tint to help with night drying and glare issue I experience from time to time when I dont have my yellow tinted driving glasses on. The GT 25 is 25.5 inches tall and is also wider then the stock shield. http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=82 Hope this helps. Rick F.
  6. You might try BP Blaster on it. That helps sometimes and if that doesnt do it, I would be tempted to remove the whole shock assemble from under the bike and get it somewhere you can work on it. Might also be a good time to add some grease zerks to the pivot points. There is a tech article on that in the library. You should be able to live the swing arm in place but if you havent, grease the splines on the drive shaft also. Good luck and it might just take that BFH to get it out. Rick F.
  7. I have the Clearview Shield on my 89 VR. I got the bigger and wider one with the vent. I havent experienced extra buffering compared to the stock. I was curious about how they compared as I gave my old stock one to a buddy. We were riding together and he had his wife along with us. I had her ride on mine after riding on his and she thought there was less buffering behind mine then there was with the stock windshield. I do tend to run with the vent open a bit and on hot days I have it directed toward my face and go get more air that way. I believe that I have a picture in my album of the windshield also. Hope that helps. Rick F.
  8. I usually get mine from http://www.PartShark.com and they have the parts diagrams for the different Yamaha products. They are a good reasonable source for factory parts. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  9. Welcome Rosie, Here is the link to the service manual for the 86-93 Ventures in a PDF format that one of the members scanned in for our use. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=90 I think you will find it very useful and help you with alot of your questions too. But never be afraid to ask them here also. Rick F.
  10. when you go to Wright Patterson, try to arrive early as some of the display have been moved to another hanger and it takes a shuttle to go there and it fills up fast I was told. This hanger is where the XB70 is stored at I was told about 3 years ago. SAC museum is also great. Was there a couple of times and it is always interesting also. There is also a small museum at Ellsworth air force base outside of Rapid City, SD. They have a small collection of planes there also open to the public. Enjoy.. Rick F.
  11. Well getting up here from Washington, IL, you can always follow the Great River Road up on either side. Even with the SHO, you will find some fun roads to drive. The ABC county roads of Wisc are fun, can be narrow at times and have nice tight turns and lot of elevation changes when in the river bluffs. Check out this website. http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/scenic/maps.htm Southeast Minn also have some nice drives in the Root River Valley and there is always Minn Hwy 60 heading west off of US hwy 61 near Wabasha, Minn. Take this to US hwy 52 and then you can always head north to the cities. Between Minneapolis and St. Cloud, the Great River Road on the west side of the river will give you more scenery then US Hwy 10 will but of course if time is an issue, the I-94 to St. Cloud. Just some thoughts and have fun. Rick F. (former Ill River Rat)
  12. I just recently acquired a set of rotor covers that included the install instructions and I thought I would share that with everyone here who might need to reference it. Hope this helps. Rick F.
  13. Here is a link to a set of 1st Gen MKII armrest on ebay that was just listed and not by me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-Passengers-Armrest-Assembly-Goldwing-Aspencade-/140684536996?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item20c173aca4 Good luck. Rick F.
  14. Here is a page out of the Ventureline with the Front Lower Fairing Trim. Item 17 Hope that helps.. Rick F.
  15. the chrome lower piece was an accessory for the Venture in the Ventureline of chrome. My buddy has one on his 89 VR and I will try to post a picture of it once I locate one. I have seen them listed in the old Ventureline catalogs but I guess not a lot of those were sold. The PO of his bike did a lot of accessorizing his bike from that catalog. Rick F.
  16. Check out this site: http://goldtouchinc.com/cosmichrome/ Or this site: http://www.freecarkits.com/chromecar.htm They are spraying the stuff on cars and motorcycles. Rick F.
  17. Has anyone tried the Evans Waterless engine coolant yet in their motorcycle. I see that Jay Leno's Garage has a short segment on the product. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/ They do have a version for power-sports now and I am thinking of converting over this spring to it as it is billed as a lifetime coolant never needing replacement or wearing out. It also has the benefit of non-corrosive and higher boiling point then water based coolants. Here is their website.. http://www.evanscooling.com/ Thanks Rick F.
  18. The difference maybe due to different manufactures of the bulbs. As long as they both are 194s I wouldnt worry. Rick F.
  19. I would Owl, but I am also schedule to work late on Friday night and not sure what time I will get home and need to see what I need to finish around my place also. Spring or early summer would be a better time for me honestly.. Rick F.
  20. 94 is clear from Wisc border to 694. I understand there is some construction on 694 around between 35E and 35W near Snelling but shouldnt be bad. They had been doing some shoulder work on 94 past the cities but traffic moves ok during the day.. Rush hour is a whole other story of course and starts about 3pm. I would avoid 94 thur St. Paul as they are working on different sections of it all the way to downtown Minneapolis. I wouldnt go 494 as it is the south bypass and a lot longer way around the cities. If you have some more questions, ask away and I will do my best to answer them. Good Luck Rick F.
  21. Not sure if it will help or if you have them already, here is a link to the post with a link to the service manual for the 1300 Venture. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384 Hope that helps. Rick F.
  22. If you just replaced a regular bulb with a LED, you will need a resistor inline with the LED to create the current that is needed. LEDs operate on current more then voltage. You will need to determine the voltage you are presenting to the LED and then figure out the resistor that gives you the current that the LED needs to operate. You will need to know the current requirements for the LED to determine the correct resistor and the spec sheet for the LED will give you that value. Here is a URL to a calculator for figuring out the resistor size that might help you out. http://www.quickar.com/noqbestledcalc.htm Good Luck.. Rick F.
  23. Doc, you will need to rebuild your slave cylinder most likely. There is no connection to the engine case for the fluid to go as it uses a push rod to activate the clutch thru the case. I had the same issue on my 89 and once I rebuilt the slave cylinder as it stopped the leak. I would also recommend rebuilding the master cylinder for the clutch. Might as well do it all at one time. And if you really want to do it all, replace the hoses with steel braided ones and you will really see a difference. The old hoses start to get weak and swell when pressure is applied to them. Good Luck.. Rick F.
  24. my 89 have 42K on it. Just dont get to ride it as much as I would like. Rick F.
