My hitch ball remains upright and coupler moves around a bit on the ball. It doesn't effect the ride one iota..... The next time you're running down the road at 80+mph take your foot off the floorboard and let it drop down into the windstream. You'll find there's a lot more going on than you think. Why does the mpg drop so much when towing a trailer... It's called wind resistence. You can't have resistence unless you have wind. The trailer doesn't ride in a vacume. Plus running at 80mph towing a trailer and the bike drinks fuel like a horse eating oats.....

Tire wear dunlop e3
Condor replied to 93 venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
From the depth of those grooves it looks like you have a lot more miles left in them, and doesn't even look like they have 17,000 on them. I've put about 6,000 on a new set of E3's and they still look like new... Looks like they are going to be a good high milage tire.... -
I personally don't think tire pressure has anything to do with trailer sway above 75mph. Aerodynamics do. Even with the bulk packed toward the front, tongue weight could be effected by lift at higher speeds. Each trailer effected differently due to design. Kinda like the space shuttle... a flying brick.... It also makes a good case for a heavier tongue weight while first loading, and also a full cooler mounted on the tongue. I also find the addition of a wing on the rear lid kinda funny as it will actually reduce the tongue weight at higher speeds by applying pressure downward. It might work on a 4 wheeled NASCAR but on two wheels???

Clutch master Sight glass repair.
Condor replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That's what I did when the '83's sight glasses started to turn into something like swiss cheese..... Picked up a very clean set of masters off eBay for very little back 3-4 years ago. The problem is I don't see a lot of them showing up like they used to.... If you do find a set ask and make sure the sight glasses are clear before bidding... -
The BBB doesn't have any authoritarian power. They used to serve as a warning organization, but since the advent of the internet that is becoming less and less. Like everyone else they are more interested in selling memberships....

I gotta commend you on your tenacity, but when I get one of those I take it to the muffler shap and have them blow the nut off.... That's also one of the reasons I like a receiver-stinger type hitch.....

It's amazing I've only aged 2 years since my first post to this thread 4 years ago.......

A batch of us visited the Rim of the World on Bear Tooth Pass last July during the International, and not one complained about the loss of power, or difficulties in starting.

Clutch master Sight glass repair.

Whew!! That is one double ugly reserve, and I hate to think what the rest of the system looks like inside. I'd think real seriously about replacing the master, slave, and line rather than spending a lot of time chasing ghosts later on.... -
Most aftermarket shocks... Progressives included... do not have the air ride as standard, I believe some offer the air as an option. They all are big bucks... Glad I don't have to go that route and resoldering the class board got things going again.

Rear wheel removal Mk1
Condor replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That's what happens when they hire techs and pay them minium wage.... And then when biz falls off they raise the hourly to make up the difference until their service dept is empty, and they go out of business, and then they wonder what the h3ll happened??? -
You probably do have a standard. The biggest difference between the Royale and the Standard is the CLASS ride system. The controll sits below the right side hand grip facing up. It sticks out like a sore thumb, and you can't miss it. Some owners have removed the CLASS and gone to manual schraeder valve fill/ adjustment, and a few others have gotten rid of the air ride altogether by installing heavier springs and shocks....

Notify your CC company about the non-ship. They will put your payment in dispute until the seller can prove that the item had been shipped and delivered. After a certain amount of time they'll refund the payment. Had to do that once. It worked... If you made the payment via paypal, better yet...

$350 dollars... Holy Moly!!! My Yamaha Dealer changed front and rear tires on the bike for $90 bucks.... And I'd bought the tires from Jake Wilson. Don't bend over near that dealer anytime soon....... -

@#$%&*!! back rest

Most luggage racks use a flat stainless washer, and then a thinner rubber washer for weather seal, and the mounting screw comes up through the underside of the lid with the same set up in reverse. A 1" studded washer seems to be excessive.... If what you are saying is what I think you are saying?? -
Another CLASS problem
Condor replied to rjg1985's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think the reason it pumps up so quickly is there's pressure already in the shock and it doesn't need any more....and it won't raise up either. Set the CLASS to AUTO and LOW. You should hear air bleeding off. Then try HIGH. The pump should run longer. Also the pressure will not read unless you turn the key to off and then back to accessory. It's been a while but that's the way I remember it... I think??? -
bike dies, dead battery
Condor replied to 99venture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My '99's battery will last longer with the audio system off when sitting for a long period. However.... I killed my AGM and then a new wet cell replacement and it turned out to be the rectifyer. Show'd volts, but no amps. Replaced it with one of those Shendengen's and no more dead batteries. -
You guys warned me and I didnt listen!!! Now I have a favour to ask!

If the bolt is kept lubed up that shouldn't happen. What does happen is the shoulder bolt wears and folks think it needs to be tightened up. It's a shoulder bolt and tightening it won't do a bit of good. It will over torque the threaded portion and eventually the threads will snap off and the yoke at the end of the side stand will bend out of shape.... and the bike will end up on the ground. It's SOB bending it back to get a new bolt started. Don't ask me how I know that.... It probably would be better if it broke and than rewelded using a new bolt to line things up... ?? I did have a spare Brian, but Delta Rat beat you to it by a couple of years....
