The stolen trailer was white and mint so I didn't do anything to it, and it did look nice behind the silver '99. This one is black and it has been used. Not bad, but used. From 10 feet away it looks OK. But even though I only use a trailer sparingly I'm fantasizing about what it would look like with graphics of an American Flag draped over it. Maybe by the gal that did Lone Eagle's bike?? I know it'd probably be more than I could afford, but it's fun dreaming.....

Unlike the 2ndGen pressure, 1stGen fronts are 50psi. Rears are around 42psi. Don't try adjusting the ride by messing around with the tire presure. Keep 'm at MAX.....

Or the $1000 that I paid for this one..... I gotta agree Larry. I know what it cost to lay up a FRP boat hull. With the cost of material, labor and parts in a small MC trailer, they should be able to make a good profit at around $2400 retail. MOF there are a couple of builders that are making nice trailers in that range now. I think American's problem is their market base. They are building trailers for the hard core Harley crowd, and since that market has gotten really soft because of the economy, sales are way down. Ergo they are waiting for Sturgis thinking that will bail them out. We'll see....

Black Fork Braces
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Keeps the front forks working together instead of slightly independant using the OEM brace.... Bike tracks much better... -
Bought a new2me trailer off Craigslist this morning to replace the stolden Motorvation. A black 2003 American Legend Sport. It had been towed behind a Road King and it's grungy as all get out around the front end. So it's going to take a while before I can peal off the soot. Me thinks the Harley had a problem.... One thing interesting is the ice chest is identical to the one I had on the Motorvation. There must be a company out there making these things for MC Trailer Manufacturers...?? It also came with the complete ball and receiver off the RK. Also grungy as h3ll, but cleanable. It's one of the vertical type that fits up inside the fender with a 'L' shaped stinger. I'll probably sell it to recoup some of my outlay... Anyway it's a happy day in Mudville.......

Black Fork Braces
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes it's anodized. I don't remember any of them being shiney black, and there were only a couple of the first batch that were black. But then that was about 200 braces ago. Memory fades when ya get old....'er... -

Tried to make Squirrel stew once. Cooked 'm for 6 hours and the teeth still bounced when biting into it.....

After the first go around with the Foam you might want to toss in another set of plugs... Sea Foam has a tendency to foul plugs after a good cleaning....

No it wasn't a deer.... We've been in this house for over 40 years, and this morning when I get up around 5:30am I look out the dining room door and see something curled up on the mat. Generally it's one of the cats. Looked closer and the cats don't have snouts. Thought it might be a stray dog. Walked over toward the door and it gets up and starts to walk away. It's got a big long bushy tail. Not a dog...it's a fox!! I've seen a lot of animals around here over the years since we live close to a river and a wildlife center, but this is the first and only time I've ever seen a fox, and it acted like one of the family.... Intertaining to say the least.....

Just a post to let anyone who might be interested know I have just two of the black braces left. This isn't a panic emergency notice as I can always put in another order for another 10, but it may take a while, and now that riding season is upon us??? Any rider who hasn't done the mod on their 1st needs to consider it....

Just a suggestion on your installation. You might want to add support strap/plates to the underside of the rack to prevent any trunk fracturing if you already haven't done so. Other than that, very nice job... and nice offer....

Something in the muffler
Condor replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is no way on God's green earth that you can shake a 1stGen muffler and get whats in there out, and it's probably a piece of collector screen?? The muffler is a two chambered affair with a center baffle deviding the two. Normally the exhaust gases travel into the rear chamber then go forward thru a short tube into the front chamber, and then finally out the rear tip... When drilling out the rear baffle you are opening up the rear chamber. I think it was either Dingy or GeorgeS that posted picks on one open up a few years ago. -
Thanks for the thought Les, but I'd need one for the '99RSV. Unfortunately when they stole my trailer the shock and final were in it. Along with a brand new ignition switch.... Grrrrr!!!

I Found It.....and it's not an Esca-p-ade... It's an Esca-l-ade, and I finally found it on eBay via Google. No where near as pricy as the Escapade Elite. ESCALADE I thought I'd seen something like it, but just couldn't place it. I still might go after it. Now I just have to drop the bomb on the seller and explain what he really has....
-
Since my beloved Motorvation Trailer got legs and walked off I've been dilegently shopping for a replacement. I ran across this one and am having a hard time figuring out just exactly what the make and model is. The seller says it's an Escapade Elite, but when I check the website I find nothing that matches it. The current models all have a rear end that looks the same but the front end with the extra hatch isn't there. So now I wondering if this is really an Escapade?? I like the looks, and the seller states it's never been used. He also added he was the second owner??? I might also add, the title on the thing looks a little iffy.... I've been down the title road before, and do know when to walk away. Any input would be appreciated...

Changing Antifreeze
Condor replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep the link above covers most everything. I leave the cap off and the drain open and stuff a garden hose in the fill that is adjusted to about the same flow as the drain, and then let the motor idle for 10 minutes or so to flush out all the old coolant. Satisfies my paranoia....- 3 replies

OOOPS.... Clutch slipped!!!
Condor replied to raybear71's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Check to make sure your expansion hole at the bottom of the reserve isn't plugged up first. Not that all the advice given so far isn't good, but making sure it's open will save you a ton of bucks. I had a slipping clutch when I bought my first '83. New Barnet springs, new discs, master rebuild, gaskets, and my wallet was $200 bucks lighter, :mo money:and I still had a slipping clutch. I got lots of great advice from this board, but nobody mentioned anything about cleaning out the expansion relief hole. It was a wrestling match, but I finally found it. So all I'm saying is check it first....then go for the springs etc... -

To put this thread back on track, and get it away from what you'd do or what you'd say. I'm grumpy about the number of calls that we are getting wanting donations, and not whether or not your going to answer the phone, give the caller an earfull, or how you're going to mess with their minds..... Telemarketers have been part of our society for years now, and can't be avoided. It's the amount of sleeze bag oportunists that are jumping on the band wagon trying to scam honest folks out of their hard earned money under the guise of helping one trumped up organization or another that probably doesn't enev exist other than their bank account.... Still Grumpy....
