  1. Was up Wawa way few years back, came out of the motel and had to scrape frost off the windshield. This was the first week of August!! Had just about everything I packed on trying to stay warm, no problem when the sun finally got up high enough to warm up but it was not fun until that happened. Take some winter gloves, better to have and not need than to need and not have. If you are plannng to do the ferry from Manitoulin island to Tobermory , might want to check there departure times and maybe book ahead. Enjoy the ride, the scenery is beautiful.
  2. When I removed the stock trim around the gas tank I replaced it with the chrome door edging and I also added some to the saddle bag lids and the edges of the fenders, I found that if you heat the material up a bit with a hair drier it makes the stuff more pliable and the adhesive seems to stick better. Did it in 05 when the bike was new and it is still on there and looks as good as new.
  3. I picked up the guitar for the first time in October. Took a bit for the callusses to develop on the tips but sure does make a difference. I am having a problem trying to make the reach for a Bmajor and switching from basically any chord to the bm. Guess the old pathway between the brain and the left hand ain't what it used to be. Is any one else having this problem and if not how did you master it and has anyone found a good teaching site that is free, being unemployed for the last year and 3/4 is putting a bit of a dent in the bank account so i don't have discretionary funds for lessons. You tube has a quite a few lesson videos that are actually pretty good for just about any song you want to try. Here's a pretty good site for finding chords to a lot songs. www.chordie.com, Merry Christmas Wayne
  4. "However, it is a heavy bike at well over 700 lbs, and the motor is mounted high, which makes the bike top heavy. If you look at the ST owners web site you will see that most of the posters have dropped their bikes, because there is a special place to log the number. I dropped mine three times. It is a two man job for me to lift and at 57 I didn't want to ruin my back trying to lift it alone on a country road in West Texas. " Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you thought the V strom was heavy then you haven't tugged on a TD. There is a technique to picking up a dropped bike, don't know if you now of it but here is the short version is to get your butt down on the edge of the seat, knees slightly bent and feet a bit out in front of you so that you are leaning back a bit(facing away from the bike), grab the low side handle grip and tug it in tight to your leg, grab a good solid point with your left hand and kinda push up and back using your legs to provide the lift. Just gotta watch you don't keep going over. Oh yeah... make sure the kickstand is down so that after you have it up you don't have to try to get at it while holding up the bike( kinda important... don't ask how I know LOL)
  5. I've had the TD since it came back out in 05 and wouldn't trade it for anything. Done the Dragon a couple of times and yes you will drag if you drive it agressively into the corners but it won't be the pipes, it will be the boards. As far as power goes, I, as well as many others here, have on occasion had to demonstrate to the Harley guys that they just don't match up off the line. I would suggest though that you might want to either replace the stock seats or perhaps have them modified. They are a killer IMHO and not worth the material they are made of, others may disagree. The TD stock pipes are fairly quiet, if you like more rumble, the Rk pipes are an easy swap out, just need to make a bracket for mounting them and they can be drilled out easily to adjust the sound. You'll love having the cruise control when your on a long trip really saves the wrist. The windshield is big and provides adequate protection. I wanted to have some tunes available so I sold off the shield and mounted a batwing fairing with an am/fm/cd player. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
  6. Must have been those slower first gen machines
  7. Brother and I left Bowmanville around six a.m., got there around eightish and it was packed then, couldn't find a spot on the street, ended up paying for a space in a garage lot($10) about half a block from the vendors in the park. First time at Dover for both of us and it was pretty cool to be part of somethng like that. By ten you couldn't move on the main street. Packed it in and bailed but unfortunately on the way out the traffic cop stopped us just as the dude in the pink thong was coming along(shudder, still having nightmares about that one). Must have been a lineup of bikes 5 or 6 km long waiting to get into town as we were heading out. No idea how many bkes actually showed, too bad they couldn't have gotten an accurate count.
  8. I know exactly what you are talking about because I have the same thing going on . Major PITA, Dr says it's tennis elbow and has prescribed therapy, only problem is I am unemployed, therapy is $65 bucks a pop and right now that is just out of the question. I have been taking a couple of Tylenol#1(they have codine in them) when it gets real sore and these seem to help with the pain.
  9. Due to this being a family oriented site, the photo of the real tragedy wasn't shown....! full bottle of Molson Canadain spilled...argh:crying:
  10. May sound a bit wierd but if you have a hand held steamer, you can try and get the wrinkles out by giving them a shot of steam, we used that method in the auto industry to take wrinkles out of the leather seats. Just don't give it a blast, we had a wand set up and used low pressure. might be able to achieve the same thing with a steam iron. relaxes the leather enough so that it settles out and then tightens back up flat. Just a thought .
  11. You might want to think about making yourself some deflectors for the lower part of the brackets. Pretty easy to do, just pull the lower plexiglass deflectors from the bottom of your stock shield and trace the outline onto a piece of 1/4" lexan. Carefully cut them out and sand the edges smooth. Take a cutip, dip it in acetone and carefuly run it along the sanded edge. (Makes the sand marks disappear),match drill the mounting holes, cut out a couple of rubber gaskets and mount them to the lower section of the brackets. Finishes off the look and moves some of the air off your knees. Need to be carefull about keeping them pretty close to the stock size, you can go a bit bigger but if you go too much, they slam pretty hard when the forks travel up( don't ask how I know doh!)
  12. Have you tried switching the led wires around? I had the same problem when I put a set on my TD for extra running lights. Just switched the wires around so that the ground was connected to the negative wire and the positve was connected to the power supply.
  13. Was a crime committed?? If so why did they send her by taxi to the bus station, if not then I wonder why she was photographed and finger printed. Should she have not just been refused entry?? Seems more than a bit strange to me and reeks of the heavy handidness of some small minded person with the proverbial "big man" syndrome. Fortuneately they are few and far between and the majority are trying to do their best at a difficult job. Gotta watch out for them radical Canadians....look what they did to the Penguins.
  14. Looking to sell the chrome luggage rack that clamps onto the passenger backrest uprights. Bought it for my 05 TD. It is in like new condition, only had it on the bike twice and don't see me using it so.......$120.. shipped. Any interest? Sold
  15. Just finished paypal to you.Good for another year:dancefool:Thanks for the reminder.
  16. Might want to consider swapping out the battery cables to the starter and ground with a 4 gauge cable(if you haven't done it already). I had the slow roll issue on my 85 and once I did that I didn't have any more issues. Just something to think about. I also hooked up a battery tender and kept it plugged in if I wasn't going to be riding for a few days. Highly recommend these, kept my TD on it all winter, went out yesterday, filled the carbs and fired right up so naturally I had to go for a ride.
  17. Nice work! I'm not a huge fan of the Venture fairing either, that's why I went the batwing route.
  18. Put a batwing on my 05 TD, bit of work to make up the brackets and modify the fairing to fit around the speedo but well worth it (at least to me). I didn't take a lot of pics during the build but if you would like to see some let me know.

    Canada

We have been very lucky this year in terms of snow( at least where I live), have only had 1 storm that left about 2 inches of snow:thumbsup:. Downside is I have to keep the beer cold the old fashioned way.
  20. Etched chrome brake and clutch reservoir covers. "Royal Star" on the clutch and "Tour Deluxe" on the brake.
  21. I think I still have a set of stock covers(brake and clutch) that I took off my 05 TD when I got my customised covers in. I'll check the garage today if you're interested.
  22. Heard some folks have mounted them in the fairing, don't personally know if there is room cause I have the TD
  23. Carl: She's a politician, have you ever met one that didn't think they knew everything, didn't nod thier head in understanding , politely agree with you and then did what they wanted to do anyway and that didn't think the sun shone out of their a$$. Good luck, maybe you'll get lucky and she will actually realize who is paying her salary!

    Tire age

Very good info. Being able to decipher the date code will be helpful on my next tire purchase. Kinda feel sorry for the small garage owner though, who most likely will be stuck with any "new/old" tires. Not sure how the supply process works but I can't really see the manufacturer saying to the garge owner that they would be happy to take back 6-8- 10 yr old tires that he hasn't been able to sell and give him new stock in exchange.
