  1. OK, here is an odd request. On the 1st gen where the horn mounts to the bracket on the frame there are sets of thin metal strips between the horn and the bracket. I suppose the sets of thin strips are to counter act the virbration. When I upgraded my horns and driving light brackets I tossed those OEM strips. Why keep 'em right? Well I have changed my light brackets again to a different type and I find the need of those strips to hang the horns. I made a couple of hangers from aluminum flat stock but they are showing signs of weakening already this year. Too much vibration. Anybody that has done a horn upgrade that might still have those strips laying around that would be willing to part with them? I think each side had 3 or 4 strips for each mount. Thanks Mike
  2. Im in the process of putting led light strips in the rear trunk light bar on my 91 vr. It is already wired for running ,brake , and turn signal. Im replaceing the incandescent bulbs with light strips to save on some electrical draw. Not sure if Ill replace the turn bulbs or not as they are only on briefly. I have arleady replaced the running bulbs with 2 12 inch superbright led strips. Going to replace the brake bulbs with the same size srtips. Here is the Question. Since its already wired for brake lights in there, is there a flasher module I can put inline to make the strips for the brake lights falsh instead of being solid or at least flash a few times before they go solid. Any help will be apreciated. TAhnks in advance David
  3. These are the type that get glued onto your bar and the grip goes over and as per manufacturer also on top of the throtle under the grip. I used it all winter keeping my hands warm . I had a situation where I thought my throttle cables were binding. I lubed, adjusted lubed again with no cure. Not till chaging bars did I realize that the throttle plastic grip was distorted due to the heat from the heating strips. The throttle binds and is awesome as a cruise but taking a trip though traffic I really wished the things was working smoothly. I know I will be purchaing a throttle lock but is there any way to get the throttle back to shape. heat and something ???
  4. In the few weeks riding I have a question regarding 4 way stops. There's one such stop on my way to school where traffic tends to be quite heavy going in all four directions, and moves with relative regularity. It moves in such a way that traffic maintains an inconsistent roll of less than 5 mph (speedo isn't even registering at this point) all the way up to the stop sign itself where the lead vehicle can do a 3 to 5 second touch and go waiting for cross traffic to clear the intersection. The problem with the intersection for bikes is that there are rumble strips warning of the stop sign ahead, but at the heaviest times of traffic, the line is already formed beyond the farthest strip, meaning I'm having to go over these strips at less than 5mph. I'm getting used to doing this without having the fear of the bike jarring out from underneath me. My issue is, I'm not quite comfortable with pulling my legs up on to the pegs while doing the line crawl and usually have my boots skimming the air just above the pavement, not touching down unless the bike feels like it's leaning too far one way or the other, which a quick kick off, counter steer, running duck walk, or combination usually suffices to keep things balanced until the speed can come back up a little. Is this the right way to do it? I just get the feeling that there's too much that could go wrong if I stick in this habit, such as a boot bouncing off the pavement and winding up in the wheel somehow, or wedged between the road and the pipe; luckily the 'zuki is a shaft drive so I don't necessarily have to worry about getting caught in a belt or chain while pulling this off, but I'd rather not get into that habit either if I wind up having a bike with one of those in the future. So, is there a better way to do this "stop line crawl", or am I stuck with my method and just have to pull it off as safely as I can? It's not something that was really gone over in the MSF. Yeah they did taking the bike down a narrow lane for about 20 ft at minimal speed, but that was done at between 5 to 10 mph and I do have to say that the knobby tires of the dual sport did help with getting the slow feel of the rumble strips under wraps.
  5. OK. I've added some red flexible LED strips to the chrome pieces behind the saddlebags on my 2nd Gen Venture to augment my brake lights, but, I can't get them to work. I know the strips work because when I connect them directly to the battery, they work. I tried wiring them to the yellow wire (brake) & a black ground wire to no avail. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
  6. There was a thread a while back where someone peeled open the reflector on the trunk of a 1st gen and installed strips of LEDs to act as running brake and turn signals. I have been doing searches for 2 days and can not find it. I really do not like having just one light on the back of the bike at night. I have about 6 feet of the red LED strips left over from a different non bike project that I can now use for this project. I will be creating a progress thread of the illumination of my Venture with links to products used and any special procedures or techniques that I had to use. I will be skirting the edges of the law and adding as much light as I can figure out how to, with out getting in legal trouble. A lot of what I intend to do is scattered about on VR.org and will end up getting compiled here, I also have a few new ideas . The steps will be completed in order of importance with safety first, functionality second and cosmetics last.

  8. I need to find out if I can get replacement rubber strips for my floorboards on my 99 Royal Star Venture. Pictures below: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f357/scottnsteph/20090316_0341.jpghttp://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f357/scottnsteph/20090316_0343.jpg
