  1. We had a serious family issue come up and were afraid we were going to need cash fast. I could sell the Harley for what I paid for it. I would have lost several thousand dollars on the Venture.

  3. I got some just as soon as I heard about it and tried it on my full face faceshield. Couldn't tell it helped at all. I was hoping I could close it all the way on cold mornings.
  4. I quit worrying about keeping mine shined up years ago. It was interfering with my riding. I have ridden the 60 miles back and forth to work 3 out of the last 6 days. If I worried about keeping it shiny I wouldn't have ridden at all because the highway has been wet every morning.
  5. If you go to Silver Dollar City make sure you see the Cave. Best part of Silver Dollar City as far as I am concerned. Branson has a lot of shows. I have only seen about 4 but I have never seen a bad one.
  6. I bought one last year and it works great if I use a cord but if I just plug it into the cassette player I only get sound out of one side of the speakers. Probably just got unlucky and got one that wasn't quite right. Well worth the 10 dollars or so it cost anyway. Charges from USB. Battery life actually pretty impressive. 4 or 5 hours.
  7. The clutch fluid is DOT 4 brake fluid and should be clear.
  8. In case nobody has figured it out yet I grew up redneck. Rednecks might let their hair get a little long sometimes but they definitely weren't hippies. I did help keep a redneck from shooting a hippy one night though.
  9. If its any consolation I have ridden my Venture a lot farther on the second shock than I did on the first and haven't had any more problems. Probably 50,000 miles on this one.
  10. And when I am out riding my DR the cruiser riders (all of them including the metric riders) act like they don't see me.
  11. You might want think twice about that. A friend of mine that has a new Harley had it dynoed. He was getting about 80 HP to the back wheel. With our driveshaft I doubt if we are getting any more than that. If being the fastest was what decided what was the best bike then I guess the Hayabusas or GSXRs would be best .
  12. Not as many as a lot of people but I have a tendency to buy something and keep it forever. 1974 Yamaha RD250 2 stroke !973 Suzuki 500 2 stroke 1981 Kawasaki 440 1981 Yamaha 650 Maxim 2002 Yamaha RSV 1996 Harley Davidson Sportster 1996 Suzuki DR650
  13. !974 Yamaha RD250. Bough it new and put 10000 miles on it in a year. It didn't have any signals left on it by then.
  14. I quit reading Popular Science sevaral years ago because they had taken a quite liberal bent to their stories. I followed your link and the the first one I clicked on they were endorsing Obama for president. I just closed it and decided will keep on reading Popular Mechanics.
  15. I was surprised when the first time I changed the back tire the rear pads were wore out. The fronts lasted a lot longer. I think I had about 12000 miles on it when the first back tire wore out.
  16. Mine is a DR650. It is one of the most fun bikes I have ever owned. Feels like a toy after the Venture. It will handle curves like a sport bike and with a top speed of 90 will pass that slow cruiser that you catch up with ease. Does not pull wheelies easily so it is very controllable.
  17. Here is a link to where another member has the service manual available. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828

  19. Yes it will. If you need a cbus cable I have one. It is longer than you need for the bike but you can coil up the excess in the fairing. Actually it should be dc-625. Hopefully just a typo. the general rule is if it is cbus it will work. when it is hooked up and as you go through the options FM1 FM2 AM Aux there will be A CD option to stop at. Most of us that had one have quit using it because an MP3 player takes up so much less room and doesn't skip.
  20. At least when his speedometer shows 90 it is really 90 and not 83 like ours.
  21. Here is a report on some of the places some riders took their bikes years ago. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29723
  22. I am addicted to this site. I check Venturerider and then spend quite a bit of time on advrider.
  23. My favorite in recent years is Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. All of his books are pretty good. Somebody else mentioned Vince Flynn. Authors I read years ago and were mentioned, Robert Heinlen, Isaac Asimov,Louis Lamour. One that hasn't been mentioned that I liked was The Mouse That Roared by Leonard Wibberly. Dean Koontz writes some pretty good stuff. I like the older Stephen King stuff but he seems to go on and on now.
  24. Another benefit is the bike will seem faster.
  25. Here is another report from a young man riding big miles. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=465713
