  1. In a futile effort to make it comfortable I took the cover off and modified the foam. After that the cover was a little loose and wore a small hole in a wrinkle where I slide my leg over. I also modified the backrest to work with the Russell Day Long. It was a very good looking seat originally but I would hesitate to sell it because I would worry about somebody being unsatisfied. If somebody was coming through this area and wanted to look at it and make an offer I would do that but I don't think I would want to ship it to anybody.
  2. I have a Corbin in my attic that I won't ever use again. I replaced it with a Russell Day Long. Wish I had done it 80000 miles ago.
  3. I agree with that. I ownly own two but it's not because I don't want more.
  4. I use a Garmin 60 CSX. I have to put a lot of via points in in Mapsource to force to force it to go where I want it to go.
  5. I had one for a couple of years. Found myself riding it most of the time when my wife wasn't going. Passenger seat was terrible but my part wasn't bad. Rode it more than 300 miles several times. Had a money crunch and I could sell it for what I had in it.
  6. Colder air is much denser so there is more oxygen per unit of volume. If your carbs are already on the lean side ( slightly clogged jets?) then with colder air it will be lean. Also if there is a small crack in the boots and the air is cold the crack could be slight larger and cause back firing.
  7. This is true. It is easy to break a gun law because there are so many of them.
  8. Definitely sounds like a stuck needle valve. This is why we are supposed to close the gas valve when we park. Nobody including me does. Sounds like one cylinder was full of fuel. You are lucky you didn't break something when it went thud.
  9. I was trained to shoot with both eyes open. The dominent eye will naturally line up the sights. Hopefully when you get a chance to shoot your left will do a good job on its own. How is the riding going without the depth perception of having two eyes?
  10. I am off this week and I just happened to decide to go to the gun club yesterday and find out if I could still shoot with the way my eyes are changing. Took my Keltec .380, Beretta 9000 .40 and Kimber.45. The Keltec is the one I carry the most just because its so light but man that Kimber is still a delight to shoot. The last 7 round clip I moved back to 45 yards on the 8" plates. 5 years ago I would have probably been 6 for 7 and now it was 3 for 7 but with my eyes I still felt pretty good about that.
  11. I never knew how good something like Demerol could be until I passed one.
  12. When I crashed I slid for quite a ways perfectly straight. I didn't realize I was skidding because it was so straight. Right before I got to the van that had turned into my lane I decided to go from the middle of the lane to the outside. That was when I went down. If I had realized I was sliding I would have got off the brakes. It was only when I got out of the hospital and went back and looked at the skid marks that I realized that I had been skidding for quite a ways. With ABS brakes I wouldn't have been sliding. I have since realized that the sound was different from a skidding car. I later had a car pull out in front of me and recognized the sound and got off the brakes and maintained control.
  13. I work for Modine and that is a very good unit. We don't make it at my plant but there are several people that have bought them and really like them.
  14. A motorcycle slows down much faster on the rubber than laying on its side. You should never intentionally lay one down. When it actually happens you don't have much time to do anything. If you had much time there would be something to do to avoid the accident and you probably would avoid it. It is something I have thought about. There have been riders that have been killed around here that didn't even have time to hit the brakes. I believe that I would at least try to raise up and maybe I would fly over the offendin vehicle becaust it is the sudden deceleration that kills.
  15. I grew up in a big tourist area and spent way to much time and money at what we call the strip. A friend of mines family had a gocart track. All the brothers were real small guys. Any way one night I was down there and this guy that towered over me ( I am 6'2") was there with his girlfriend. He got all pissed off because he thought the ride was to short and was going to whip the brothers ass that was running it that night. The brother ducked into their little shack there and came out with a .22 rifle. It was a funny sight to watch the big guy leave his girlfriend and go running down the strip as fast as he could go. The cops showed up and hauled the brother off for questioning but I heard later they let him go because he had done nothing wrong.
  16. I used to with a chain drive all the time but I don't with a shaft drive.
  17. My Dad had a serious alcohol problem before I was old enough to remember it. Then one saturday when I was abou 12 he came home drunk and abusive. If I had grown up with it, it probably would not have made such an impression on me. Then when I was 21 I was called to the police station because he had gotten into a bar fight and stabbed a guy. After that he finally quit drinking again but it was already to late. He died from liver disease a few years later. I went through the drinking thing in my late teens but about as quick as I turned 21 the fun went out of it. I got involved with the local Freedom of the Road Riders for a while but their idea of a ride was 3 miles to a bar and then 3 miles to another bar. Not my idea of motorcyle riding. I would spend my time playing pool. I would rathe do 300 miles in the hills of southern Mo and northern Ar than to spend my time doing that type of riding.
  18. Because of the posts on here I watched mine real close. I already had it on before I joined. When it started to fail I caught it early. After a fight with them and threatening to post it all over the internet I got a new one. It started to fail even quicker. At that point I wouldn't have taken another one if they paid me. I have run Metzeler Tourances on my DR but it weighs about 1/3 what the Venture weighs. The second one was made in Germany. I didn't check to see what the first one was.
  19. I have climbed a 500 ft tower more than once and helped build a 100 ft tower but watching that video about made me sick. I can ride a roller coaster all day but if I watch video from one it gets me sick. The cable company I used to work for gave me a days overtime every time I had to climb one. 500 ft takes a couple of hours and some rest breaks. The first time I did it I was in my 20s. That afternoon I took a big step up and my leg collapsed.

  21. The only guy in my area that rides more than me rides a 2001 Electra Glide Standard. It has 170,000 miles on it. Two years ago we were headed for Duluth MN. At that time he had about 130000 miles on it and iwas worried about how it would hold up. I had about 60000 on my Venture then. Guess who broke down. My radiator started leaking. Not a problem that the electra Glide would ever have. He and I went to Ark. this spring and i road my DR650. We were going to visit Hawksbill Krag which is 6 miles up a very rough road. Now he lives 2 miles down gravel and rides out almost every day so gravel doesn't bother him. I went up about 2 miles and waited. I didn't have to wait very long and he caught up. I asked how he was doing and he said he was having a blast so I rode the other 4miles. He wasn't to far behind me. I think in the 170000 miles he has had to replace the belt 2 or 3 times. Once it was because a rock got caught in it. He also gets 48 MPG with it. I had a 96 Sportster for a couple of years and never had a problem with it. http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad166/midnightventure/Memorial%20Day%20Ride%202010/CIMG0511.jpg
  22. I think I will be looking for a used Super Tenere when I wear out my DR.
  23. A good sport bike can give the same thrills as a 200,000 dollar sport car.
  24. Why do they allow cruisers to clog up all the good riding roads? A friend of mine had the fastest bike(built gsxr 1100) in the area a few years ago. I had a hankering for a crotch rocket and he knew I had a lot of experience riding. I went over to test ride it and he was on his other bike (750 Gsxr). I just barely made it out of his driveway before i got a cramp in my hip area and had to quit. Other wise I would probably have one. Passing in the same lane is a dumb move but the cruisers that get passed on curvy roads shouldn't complain. They have no idea what these bikes are capable of. I have caught cruisers on my dual sport and rather than embarass them just turned off on to a gravel road. I personnaly don't understand the attraction of a bike that weighs 800 lbs and is not a touring bike.
  25. The dealership should have to pay for eveything. They are the ones that didn't do it right. The dealer I bought mine from paid for the tire that was backwards. I didn't catch the bolts not being in the cross bar until years later.
