The worst part is you could have walked into Walmart after they discontinued the product and stocked up dirt cheap.

Speedometer 10% fast
midnightventure replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The bad thing for me is I get used to running 76 to compensate and then realize I am in my truck or my Trans Am. -

I have tested the odometer against mileage markers and with GPS and it is of also. My 1997 Harley and all my American cars are within 1/2 MPH. -

They are allowed + or - a percentage and the Japanese seem to always err to the plus side as much as they can. They could make it dead on and they don't. They try to convince everybody they are faster and get better gas mileage than they actually do but with GPS getting so common we are on to them. With the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty it doesn't really affect the warranty but we are all racking up more miles on our bikes than we are actually riding. -
rear shock leak?????
midnightventure replied to Red Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The oil looks like clean engine oil. Yamaha refused to do anything about mine at first and I rode it for several months. Then it started leaking the air out about as fast as I put it in and at that point they fixed it. My replacement has already lasted a lot longer than the original but my plan is to go aftermarket if it ever fails again. -
My first 2 road bikes were 2 strokes and I rode them a lot of miles. Never had a problem with the oil injection systems. Sure a lot easier than mixing.

Sounds like the idiots that work for MODOT>

I took mine on a 3000 mile 5 day trip. By the time I got home it didn't feel near as heavy.

Just for educational purposes go to Google and type in BMW final drive failure. After you read all that then go to beadrider.com. The guy that owns beadrider has competed in several Iron Butt Rallies. He spends a fortune getting his bike (BMW) ready only to have it fail. I would expect to get on any Yamaha and ride it a 1000 miles a day and not have any thing happen to stop me. I have even read a crash report on one of BMW 650 dual sports where the portion of the forks that the front axle went through snapped off. Of course this resulted in an accident. Also happened more than once. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371650 http://faq.f650.com/FAQS/ForksMaintFAQ.htm#GS%20Catastrophic%20Fork%20Failure

I have over 80000 miles on mine and it runs great on regular.

There was one that a dump truck went through a few years ago. The driver was killed. He was supposed to drive around and got in a hurry and tried to cross the bridge and the decking collapsed. It was a county truck.
-
I live in the area and have been to all of them. I think instead of replacing them the county should be developing them as a tourist attraction.

Most afternoons if the sun is shining I don't pull the choke out when I leave work. By the time I get my helmet on it is ready to go.

Royal Stars and full leather suits??

I wear my Aerostich up until about now. Don't see too many Cruising Tourer riders wearing a Roadcrafter. -
A four-legged member of my family was killed last week...
midnightventure replied to a topic in Watering Hole
I was raised in a home with 6 large dogs. I understand them very well. It amazes me to see people tell me that a dog won't bite when it has come out of it's yard after me and the only thing that is keeping it from biting me is the fact that I haven't turned my back on it. I used to do a lot of running and now walk a lot so it is an issue that comes up fairly often. We have a river here in Mo called the Current. It's called the Current because it flows pretty fast. I watched a fellow throw a rock the size of my head into about 3' foot of water repeatedly and a pit bull would go in and get it and bring it back out. There is no quit in these dogs. -

I get so sick of hearing about the bad things that pit bulls do and the people that claim its just depends on how they are raised. A bird dog will point at birds with out any training because that is what it was bred to do. A pit bull was bred for fighting. I don't very often say any thing that I know will piss people off but this is a sore subject for me. -
I use it on all my vehicles.

If you are running a indicated 80 on a modern Japanese motorcycle the actual speed is probably only about 74 MPH.

The Second Generations come with a volume control for the passenger.

Tap on the front of the compressor clutch. If the clutch pulls in the airgap just needs to be adjusted. My Sonomas air conditioner quit working and I had figured out it was the clutch. I talked to a friend at his shop and he told me to go out and try that and it worked. Takes a special tool to adjust and his was wore out. He ordered it from Napa and when they dropped it off he adjusted it and only charged me 20 dollars. The tool cost him 80.

Here is some pictures of mine. Pardon the dirt but I haven't cleaned it since our 700 mile trip and part of it was in the rain. The backrest is my Corbin backrest. i didn't want to spend the extra money for the Russell.

I agree that the biker did absolutely nothing wrong but because of this video if I am ever pulled over I am going to put at least one hand on my helmet until I get the bike in neutral and then put the other one on my helmet. My legs are strong enough I can hold the bike up with out holding the handle bars. I know some people probably aren't able to do that. There is something wrong when a person has to feel like they need to be that careful. -
About 5 years ago I bought a Corbin seat for my Venture. It looked great on the bike but I was never happy with the comfort on long trips (250 miles or more). Last year (after the International Rally) I received my custom built Russel Day Long. Last weekend my wife and I went on a long enough trip that I feel like I'm qualified to review the seat. I wish I had done this the first year I had the bike instead of waiting until I had 77000 miles on the bike. We went to Van Buren Ar last weekend. Did about 340 miles both days. Especially the first day I could have done a lot more. The second day I was just glad to get home before the serious rain hit. With the Russell Day Long you have to have a original seat to send in and then wait for it to be built.

The two car motorcycle accidents I have been in were both when I was driving less aggressive than usual. One a lady rear ended me (she was on her cell phone) when I didn't go out into heavy traffic on a four lane highway. In the same situation in the past I probably would have gone but I had told myself I needed to stop being such an aggressive rider. The second one was my bad one. I was riding pretty easy because I had the flu and the only reason I was out was picking up the bike after having valve adjustment done. If I had been riding as fast as I usually do I would have been way trough the intersection where the lady turned left in front of me. A friend of mines son was popping a wheelie on our main drag. A lady pulled out in front of him and he went down and slid into the car and was killed. I would say that wasn't her fault because of the excessive speed and the fact the headlight was pointed into the sky instead of straight ahead. -

I wish every cop in the country and every private citizen in the country was aware of this case. The cops need to be aware there can be consequences for their rash decisions and private citizens need to be more aware not to do anything that can be misinterpreted.
