  1. I had two in a row start to separate. At that time I didn't pull a trailer and didn't ride two up very much.
  2. They are pretty easy to balance yourself. I was at a motorcycle race and watched the Dunlop tech do it some people just clamp a couple of boards to a bench and run a rod through the wheel. Find the heavy spot and put a weight on the other side. I even make my own weights by melting car wheel weights down and pouring it onto a piece of steel that is not quite level. It runs down and makes a strip just about the right thickness and width. Then I use double stick tape to put it on. I have never had one come off. I made a device with four garage door rollers. I bought a rod the exact thickness of the rear axle but then when I did the front I found out they aren't the same size. Now I just use a piece of 1/2" hard copper tubing. If you don't balance them and they are very far out they will wear very uneven.
  3. I didn't like the one I had. Like Tartan Terror says it pinched. I had heard that you didn't want much air in it and thats the way I ran it.
  4. I sometimes think that there should be a class action against all the Japanese manufacturers because they design the speedometers and odometers to be off. I know they design them that way because they are too good at designing for 100% to be off. I checked my odometer against highway mileage markers on I44 coming home from the Hub. It was a half mile off in 10 miles. The speedometer is 5 off at 70. This has been real consistent on every Japanese bike I have had a chance to check with radar or GPS. My Sportster was within 1 MPH and all my 4 wheelers are also within 1 MPH.
  5. You can get the service manual here. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828]Download the Owners and Service Manuals - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I believe the fuse for it is behind the right lower cowling. It is not fused very high so it is easy to blow.
  6. That is definitely beautiful country. My favorite place in the world. Of course I've never been there in the winter.
  7. The guy that I was riding with just had a new grandbaby and had to pick his wife up at the hospital that morning. I had to wait for him to call so I couldn't plan anything ahead. We didn't get going until 1 PM. By the way how did that carb synch work out?
  8. You will like the Avons or the Elite 3s a lot better than the D404s on grooved roads. I have even stopped complaining about the DOT cutting the grooves. Of course I haven't stopped complaining about all the other stupid things that Modot does. I was amazed how much better the back roads in Arkansas were compared to ours.
  9. I am pretty happy with the Venture just the way it is except for the cassette player. I like the idea of having 10 years worth of parts bikes out there. We all know that if we need a part that anything from 1999 to 2009 will work. Mine has 75000 miles on it now and I just ordered a 800 dollar seat for it so I am planning for it to last a lot longer. If it doesn't I guess I will buy a low mileage used one. They are sure a lot cheaper and easier to find now compared to when I decided to get one in 2002.
  10. I was out on a ride on the DR today and saw a silver second generation about a mile east of Stover. Anybody from the forum?
  11. I wear an electric vest with sleeves plus electric gloves. With the carb heaters disconnected I have plenty of juice.
  12. I believe that if you go down at high speed that as long as you don't hit anything solid that you have a good chance of surviving.
  13. I just checked the Emma Maersk on Wikipedia. They had her shipping route listed and the US wasn't part of it. Sailing schedules Emma Maersk's regular round trip involves Ningbo, Xiamen, Hong Kong (westbound), Yantian (westbound), Tanjung Pelepas (westbound), Algeciras (westbound), Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Algeciras (eastbound), Tanjung Pelepas (eastbound), Yantian (eastbound), Hong Kong (eastbound) and Ningbo. In case you wonder why I seem to taking this personal my wife is a 26 year Walmart employee. Both my kids worked for them while going to college. Every time my daughter changed schools Walmart let her transfer to the closest store so she was never without a job.
  14. I just went down to my gunroom and checked several boxes of Winchester ammo (all from Walmart) and they where all made in the USA.
  15. Don't use the grab bars because I broke the bolts in one side once. Easy fix but I tie somewhere else now.
  16. I ended up with spingleys PCW spring. I was going to replace my stock friction plates and bought his spring as an after thought. When I took things apart and measured the old plates and compared them to spec and the new plates I realized they weren't wore out so I put the PCW spring in. The clutch hasn't slipped in over a year. I used to ride a sportster so the clutch pull feels pretty light to me.
  17. The shock on my 02 was replaced under warranty but I had to wait till it was leaking air bad before they would do anything.
  18. Dang, I must have missed something again.
  19. Good pictures. I'm going to have go that way some day.
  20. If you go very far east on 50 you just as well see the Royal Gorge and if you are into it you can float it. I think it has some class 5 rapids.
  21. That road at the top looks pretty slick. Was it ?
  22. Did you read some of the comments attached to the article? No wonder they are trying to kill us, they just plain don't like us.
  23. For people that didn't make it to the Hub but would like to see what the roads were like here is some video. The riding doesn't start until about a minute in. I forgot to mount the camera ahead of time. The camera was mounted to my left side highway peg so it looks like I'm over the yellow line when I wasn't. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZV64-QvJRc]YouTube - Ar1[/ame] Hope this works, I've never posted a video before.
  24. If you go through that part of Co you need to get an old CW McCall tape and listen to it at the same time . His songs reference a lot of towns in the area.
  25. I would rather have one that had been ridden a few thousand miles a year than that one. I bet it has a lot of problems besides the carbs.
