Think I need some clutch help............
flb_78 replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If it's under warranty, I'd let the dealer do it. It's not hard and only takes about an hour to do. Here's the procedure to do it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518 -
Think I need some clutch help............
flb_78 replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
yep, your spring is getting weak. Time to replace it. Mine started slipping only when cold and gradually started slipping more and more and more and then......a little bit more. I redid my clutch with new discs. I did not want to chance tearing it down and finding the discs worn. They're only 8 bucks a piece. I also removed the half plate and installed a full plate. My can now loft the front end of my 99. -
a few clutch questions
flb_78 replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is only 1 spring in the stock set up. It's just a wavy disc. The PCW kit is the Speedstar disc for the Roadstar Warrior, another friction disc, and a gasket. If you're clutch has been slipping for a while, you may want to go ahead and get new fiber discs. They're only like 8 bux a disc. The Barnett Clutch kit replaces parts in the stock clutch and converts it to a multi spring setup. You can then get different springs to make it tighter if needed. If you were to get the Barnett setup, do not get the kit with the Barnett plates. The factory ones are superior amazingly. There's a fella on the warrior forum using the Barnett setup on his turbo nitrous warrior and the clutch does not slip. Bike dynos just shy of 200hp without nitrous. If you plan on keeping the bike another 53,000 miles, I would replace the fiber discs and get the Barnett setup. It'll be the last time you ever touch the clutch internally. I replaced my clutch with all factory parts. I also removed the half disc and substituted the full disc for it. -

Decided not to buy 2007 venture

It seems to me that someone with more money then brains was going through a midlife crisis and just HAD to have a bike and after purchasing said bike, decided that he's not Peter Fonda or Dennis Hopper. He then took a big hit on resale and bought a sexy little sports car to reassure himself that he's still "got it". -
Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
flb_78 replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterStudy.html This site here shows the PL14610 cut open. It's full of media from top to bottom. 92 square inches. He also has the Super Tech filter next to it and you can see the super tech filter does not have as many pleats and even though it is almost as tall, it only has 49 square inches of filter. http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Images/OilFilters3.jpg -
I bet it's higher then that. There's a lot of technology in that bike.

It easier to just push the bike over on it's side and pull it out that way.

I don't know what 85.5 gas is but if it's the E85 stuff that's 85% ethanol then I can't recommend running it in the Venture unless you know all the rubber components are synthetic rubber instead of natural rubber. I don't think a tank full once in a while will hurt it any though and may prove to be beneficial to remove carbon build up. Hopefully the sawgrass business will take off and ethanol based fuels will drop in price compared to corn juice. The sawgrass provides much more fuel per bushel then the corn does.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?

Ive been using the PL14610 since I first changed the oil after I got my new to me used non-financed bike 20,000 miles ago. -
Wow, after 15 months of owning my Venture, I never knew I had a clock. It was only 8 minutes off as well!!

I don't think Castrol 10W40 is an energy conserving oil. Most 10W40 oils are not energy conserving. Being an automotive oil does not matter, what matters is the energy conserving label on the back. The chart is posted for reference to what the symbol should look like. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff132/dddouble/Misc/API_donut.gif

If I changed oil in the van, I would do it every 3000, but as of right now, I'm averaging 120 miles a month in the van. I do the bike every 3000. I can feel the difference in the shifting with fresh oil, plus, it's really cheap. I change the oil in the girlfriend's car every 3-5000 depending on when I when I feel like doing it.

Decided not to buy 2007 venture
flb_78 replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have mine. I didn't finance it. Cash is King, Debt is Dumb. buy used, save money or in this case, buy a little more used bike. -

If you have to borrow money for a vehicle, you can't afford it. -
I'm not a trike fan, but if I were to get one, I'd probably get the new Harley trike. That way you'll have coast to coast factory coverage. I personally would rather have an Ariel Atom or a street legal sand rail over a trike. Still in the wind with GREAT handling.

Heart stopping moments...
flb_78 replied to Owen's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The best way to remedy that situation is to pull the clutch in, redline the engine, pop the clutch and pull the front end in the air. Then proceed to your local friendly dealer to have a new tire installed. It's a rather simple fix. -

That's when the bars flop from lock to lock and one cannot control the motion. It's quite the horrifying experience. -
I don't know of anyone who's pulled a trailer yet. My bike has a receiver on it but I don't have a tongue for it. I think Maineac has a trailer. Maybe he can throw a couple of bags of dog food in the trailer and take it for a spin.
