I believe it's been mentioned once or twice.

Either brake lever and the clutch lever will trip the cruise control off. Sometimes certain bumps will trip my cruise as well.

I normally average 135-140 miles before I hit reserve. Last weekend with a major tailwind and running a cruise controlled 65mph, I hit reserve at 169. I once ran my bike completely dry (on purpose) and had 42 miles on the reserve fuel.

My parent's bought me my first car. A '77 Olds Delta 88 with a deer print in the front end ($75). It was 18 years old already. They also paid for my first 3 months of liability insurance on my own policy ($175). After that, I was on my own. I also got my first job that day so I could buy gas so I could drive to school and work.

I have a Vega helmet in 4xl. I know of no other company that makes em that big. The only color they have in that size is black though. I have a 3XL HJC open face helmet that I normally wear and only use the Vega for inclement weather.

Put some air in the rear shock and it'll lift the rear end of the bike and lower the headlight. I highly doubt your headlight is that far out of aim. It's most likely the Silverstar bulb is just that bright. I had a Silverstar and it was bright. It could really be seen. But it only lasted 6 months.

I tighten mine with my thumb and first 2 fingers. That's all the tighter in needs to be.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
flb_78 replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would use nothing except OEM yamaha filters on a bike that's still under warranty. The PureOne filter is superior filter, but, it is not listed by Purolater as a replacement filter. That could come back to bite you in the butt. -

That's about 20 miles from me. Biggest hole in the ground besides the Grand Canyon.

Confused on fuel tank volume on 05 RSV
flb_78 replied to bryan52577's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
you will have about 1.5 gallons in reserve. I completely run out of gas 45 miles after reserve hits, give er take. I strapped a gallon of gas on the trunk rack and just ran the thing out 1 day. You can also increase the capacity of the tank by venting the neck of the filler. I put a couple of small holes in the filler neck and gained about a half gallon of capacity. -
I got 700 planned to be killed tomorrow.

You should not have to rejet for the K&N's. The airflow will not be improved that much because the intake setup is so restrictive. I know some guys that ran the iridiums and actually burnt the tips off of them. They reported no gains at all over the standard plugs. Some folks say they do notice a difference. I don't know, Ive never ran em. $12 bucks for a plug is outside my price range. If you do the maintenance yourself, plugs are cheap and fairly easy to change. I've only had my Venture for 20,000 miles and I've only changed the plugs once. I run the cheap gas in my bike. Ive noticed no difference in performance or mileage compared to high octane. The engine does not ping under a load, so the high octane stuff is actually carboning up the head and causing more problems.

You will not blow out any seals or cause any gaskets to leak. Unless it's too the extreme, oil level has no effect on oil pressure. Overfilling will cause some oil to blow out the crank vent in the valve cover. I fill mine on the centerstand to the center of the site glass. -
Think I need some clutch help............
flb_78 replied to nkbjones's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
yes, the clutch is a wear item, but it still has a "life expectancy" warranty. On a bike that is 2 years old with only 20,000 on the clock, the clutch should not be slipping. -
I ran Maxxis's on my ole XJ1100 and had no problems, but it is a lighter bike. I think on the Venture, they would wear rather quickly.

Yeah, it'll be fine, just don't slip the clutch too much. -
Beer, make him a new set with TITanium studs in it so the bike slides on those instead of the leather like the armored gloves the racers wear. http://www.cyclepages.com/images/uploaded/pg4000210.jpg

If there is a leak, I would check to see if the sealing ring fell off at the last change. If it's still there, then I would assume that the pan is stripped. Im sure the steel plug is more durable then the aluminum pan. I don't think the pan is thick enough to helicoil. I would remove the pan and drill the hole clean to rethread it to the next size. Actually, I would do it at work and pick the bike up with our 10 ton overhead hoist.
