  1. Last night when I left work the audio system on the bike decided to act up. When I started the bike nothing would come up in the display window of the control unit. The backlight came on and I could still hear the radio playing on the station I had listened to that morning, but none of the buttons, including the volume know would work. After riding several miles the display began to flicker in and out. When the display was on the buttons would work, but you had to press them at just the right time before the display went dead again. By the time I got home the display was back on steady and all seem fully functional. although I did not have anyone to tt on the CB. Has anyone elese experienced this? Should I go looking for loose connections, and if so where to start? Or, shoudl I just take it in to the dealer since it is still under warranty a little longer? Thanks for the advice!
  2. Greetings! Just purchased a 1988 Venture. Just registered with your site also. I've been out of biking for over fifteen years until a good friend of mine and his wife purchased an '07 Venture and appeared to be having a great time and rekindled my interest. The '88 model I just purchased is in great shape but it's needing tires. Any advise on what's good or what to stay away from? Thanks!
  3. 2009 RSV. The previous owner replaced the self cancelling relay with one that does not cancel. I have the original, and would like to put it back in. I keep forgetting to cancel the turn signal myself. No answers last time I asked this, so maybe it is too stupid a question to bother with.
  4. I just recieved my headlight AND brake light modulators. Where did you all mount yours and make the connections???? I heard you can access the brake light wiring under the seat.....and I'm going to be mounting the Yamaha passing lamps at the same time (useing the relay), so I assume I'll have to seperate the fairing....and that's Probably where I'll install the headlight modulator. Any tips or advise would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!!
  5. I am a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders. How do I get the small icon awards thing to show up with/or beside my avatar picture ? I know nothing about the awards program here. I see awards beside some of the members avatars and assume maybe someone takes care of this or nominates someone or something to that affect. Been a member for quite some time now and never did know how that worked or how to nominated or just how it works. I have saw where some have gotten them for helping someone out or dedicating a lot of time to host a gathering. I think I may have nominated Goose one time for helping so many out here. But really can not remember that for sure right now. Fuzzy
  6. Yesterday morning I dropped my Nankang Rear Tire & RSV wheel off at the dealer to get it mounted. At 4:00pm they said they couldn't get it to bead & wanted to try more tomorrow. At 10am this morning they called & said that they even took it over to a car tire place to try to get it seated & failed. So then I called 6 different places just to see if they would even try to bead/seat the tire. None would try. That was disappointing. So I set off to do it myself - bought tire irons & 2 hp air compressor from Harbour Freight - bought silicon spray, grease & dawn dish liquid. Then I broke the seat on the side that wouldn't bead - greased & soaped the rim & tire... tried to set the bead once - failed - broke the bead - tire ironed the spot that stuck - tried to set second time - failed - did the same as before third time same forth time - beaded & seated - done It took about 45 minutes of messing with & it popped at about 65 psi. The dealer then balanced the tire for free. Why is nothing ever easy for me. At least now I have a nice 8 gallon 2hp oil air compressor for other things. Tire irons are nice hunks of metal for prying & banging on things when your frustrated. What happened to the old time bike shops? The last time I had a car tire mounted, HummingBird kindly did it for me. Thanks & too bad HB is so far away in Ohio! JohnB

  8. OK folks...here is what I have at this time for the VR Guardian Bells. I spoke to the manufacturer yesterday and the model is done. He is emailing me a photo of the wax model tomorrow and then said that it should take more than 3 or 4 days to get them cast. So...I figure that by the time he gets them shipped to me and I get them shipped to you, it will probably be another couple of weeks before you actually receive them. Please check this list and verify that I have received your order. If you are not listed, it means I either missed your order when compiling the list or I have not yet received your order. Please let me know if you are not listed here and thought that you had ordered. As you can see, the orders have come in very nicely. I am very pleased with the response to this and thank ALL of you for not leaving me sitting on a bunch of these. If my calculations are correct, I still have about 70 remaining and it's nice to have some on hand for future orders. Also, I can order more at any time and will not have to order the 250 minimum next time. I can probably order them 100 at a time now if I need to. 9. well as some know i have been trying to trace down what was a small pesky leak. thought i had it figured out. some donated parts from dingy have been sent out to me (thanks gary for the thought) well today a friend of mine who is a car mechanic and i decided to check it out we pulled it out of the storage unit and fired it up waiting for the warm up as it wouldnt leak until warmed? we got down to shine a light up there when we heard a loud pop hot anitfreeze hit both of us i got some small burns on my arm same with him. looks like the radiator blew? at least i hope thats it and not a head gasket or the engine. she was still running though after the loud pop and antifreeze all over front of the engine. im now sad and angry .. angry as i used to be able to do work on smaller bikes. sad that i just cant keep going with this being dissabled and low on $$$ makes it a every day struggle i realy want to be out there and ride. maybe when the title comes in for the bike someone here might make a fair offer on the old girl? i know that most here have the experience to put the old girl together and maybe the $$ to do it. well time for some southern comfort and a hankie to drown my sorrows and dry my tears...
  10. Quit smoking two weeks ago....This is my 3rd attempt at this...first time I quit for 10 months...2nd time for 6 months..GOT TO MAKE IT STICK THIS TIME.......I'm doing good so far, I mean, I haven't killed anyone and the urge to do so is nearly gone......LOL:fnd_(16):
  11. Curious what tricks you guys may have used to get a lower seat height? Road my first gen for the first time ever last week and the biggest issue I have is reaching the ground. I had to take all the air pressure out of the rear shock just to have a chance of reaching the ground with some limited confidence. With time, I'm sure I can get accustomed to it, but I'd feel better if I could flat foot this sucker. For the record, I'm not the tallest guy around. I'm about 5-7 or 5-8 with a 31" in-seam.
  12. I found a nice way to go to work , down thru the river bottom, it has large trees and nice curves. The other day going to work in the dark i was fixing to hit the curve hard like i like to do and i see brake lights halfway in the curve,so i slowed down. There in the curve is a power line hanging down windsheld high. someone looking out for me. On the way home coming around another curve ,brake lights again. This time a 100 year old tree across the road. Some one really looking out for me or telling me It's time to put the bike for the winter
  13. We did have a beautiful weekend here in east Tennessee. I saw 74 degrees both days while riding and for the middle of January, this was record temperatures. It was good to get out and get a little seat time on Saturday with a friend that has just converted from a Goldwing to an 09 Venture. On Sunday, I rode alone and just enjoyed the day. There were a lot of motorcycles out and about everybody waved. The bad part about about having a warm day in the middle of winter is it seems just about every time we have a local motorcycle death. This weekend was no exception. We had a 77 year old man in a Cadillac pulled out in front of two on Honda's and one struck the car and the other crashed trying to miss the car. The 28 year old rider that struck the car died at the scene and the other rider, who is 18, is in the hospital. The only information the Highway Patrol has released at this time is charges are pending. I just wanted to take a moment and say that we all need to be extra diligent when we get out there and take those "off season" rides because many people just seem to forget about looking for motorcycles. The other thing is it seems like after not riding for a couple of months that we always want to crank it on some to clean the spider webs out. Be careful out there. RandyA
  14. Ok, my 2013 year resolution. Yep, the goal to reduce my weight. After all the Holiday eating, I have surpassed my all time weight of 182 lb (year 2009) for my 68 inch height frame. My new all time high is 183 lb now, and I can’t get into most of my pants without sucking in my gut, and then it is still a real tight challenge. My goal is to lose 20 lbs, to be 163 lbs, or reduce my weight by 11%, in 5 month (By 1 June). An average of 4 lbs per month or 1 lb per week. Looking at it that way the goal seems very reachable. No special diet fad or a book, just my own personal process. This is my plan. 1) No restriction as to what I consume just control the quantity. 2) I will scale weight every morning and chart it in Excel. In most business, goals are tracked and weekly reviewed by presenting measurable metrics. When the chart rises it will discipline me to control the quantity. 3) Retrain and control my mind on the feelings of hunger. Each time I experience hunger feelings in between meal times, I will verbally profess, “My body is converting stored fat into needed energy, and it feels Great!”. 4) I will use my wife’s Elliptical twice a week for 30 minutes watching a movie. Once on weekend & on Wednesday for 30 minutes each. I should have been doing this 2 years ago after my open heart surgery anyway. You can help by bumping this thread and asking for my progress, and keeping me accountable. I will respond with a copy of my Excel chart.
  15. Not one that I really wanted to join. About 2 weeks ago I started waking up in the middle of the night with a raging headache that was felt mostly behind the eyes. Went to the Dr. today because I couldnt shake this mornings headache, had to miss work, so went to the Dr. and now I have to take another med for high blood pressure. I am hoping the Dr. gets it right with the meds the first time, everyone I know has to take a couple of different ones before they hit on the right one. Starting out on Diovan, hope it works, cant take the headaches any longer.
  16. As mentioned in a previous thread I was thinking about setting up a Meet and Eat at the Table Top Restaurant in Burlington ON. Sat Jan 5th. this is the weekend of the Big Toronto Motorcycle show. I realiize this is a bit of a short notice (due to me being in Germany most of December) but Last years was such a great success with a wonderful turn out that I thought it would be nice to give it another shot this year. So if anyone is up for it let me know and if enough interest is indicated I will set it up. Exact time of day yet to be determined, I was thinking of about 6:00 PM----alternate Time suggestions welcome. P/S The Table Top is an excellent Restaraunt with great food huge portions. Also very easy to get to. being just a couple turns of the QEW.
  17. Well I cant wait, My last day on the job will be the 31st of this month. 37 years with the Goverment is way long enough. Now it will be time to ride more.............
  18. It is time for me to ride SOUTH. I was supposed to be leaving tomorrow morning, but...as we all know too well...weather at this time of year dictates when we can ride. Finding that we have a perfect window of clear, dry weather for the next several hours, we have decided to leave Washington state now, and make it down to Eugene, OR., and stop for the night. We could easily go farther, but we have a large hill to go over at the Oregon/California border, and there is usually lots of snow and ice on the road this time of year. We want to do that hill in the daylight, after some sun has hit it. Have an appointment in Redding to have our tires changed out, for the ride down to much warmer/hot weather down in South America. We will leave our winter tires at this shop, as well as most (not all) of our heated clothing. Then on the way back north, we will have the same shop take off our summer tires, and re-install our winter tires, and give us back our heated clothing that we left with them. Total ride down to Bolivia/Chile' should be about 15,000 round trip. We plan to do some sight seeing in Bolivia, retrace the steps of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and then take in day # 10 of the Dakar Rally in Chile'. I will be riding my 2012 Super Tenere', and my riding partner is riding a 2005 R12GS. We are well prepped and planned for this ride, but..."IF" anything goes wrong, well...my friends, it has been lovely getting to know many of you. Hope to be back on here in 4 weeks. Stay safe, and be nice to one another while I am gone. Adios,
  19. With the Holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a “social session” out with friends. Well two days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had several cocktails followed by some rather nice white wine. Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That’s when I did something that I’ve never done before – I took a cab home. Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don’t know where I got it and now that it’s in my garage I don’t know what to do with it.
  20. I have been spending my vacation in Germany and Holland and so far having a great time. They sure know how to kick off Christmas here early with hoiliday drinks and food. I will most likely gain back all the weight I have lost over the past couple months but how can you say no to all this good food etc. Quite a few people here are still riding regardless of snow or cold. Holland even has 1st response Motorcycle ambulances. The idea is that a motorcycle can get on the scene faster and get a head start on initial care getting the victim preped and ready to move by the time the larger response vehicles arrive. Weather does not seem to stand in their way either. I will post pics when I return home.
  21. Hello everyone. I have spent some time reading older posts regarding what everyone brings on the road. Naturally, people bring or leave things depending on the type of trip ( weekend vs. week, solo vs. 2 up, weather etc ) . This leads me to asking you savvy riders this: 1- where and HOW are you putting all this stuff in ?? The RSV has the presence of a lot of room, but it seems like I may have thought it had more then it does. I mean after the wrenches, tire compressor, rain gear, misc stuff such as flashlights, screwdrivers, oil, etc. what room is left for food, water and clothes. 2- at some point I will be taking a 2 up over night journey and again, where and how am I putting up stuff including spouse ( she doesn't think it would be fun stuffing her in trunk ) the rest of the general packing list and clothes for 2. Maybe it's just me, but I do not throw away socks and shirts after a trip. On the kawasaki , we use a T bag which fits behind the passenger backrest. This left both saddle bags for gear. I am trying to figure out the best way to pack this bike, for longer trips ( to me it means 200+ miles) and overnights which was the reason I picked up the bike. ( sadly time and responsibilities with the little ones do not allow me longer journeys w the wife) I learn so much from this sight, and many thanks to those that take the time to respond and reply both on the forum and through PM. I eagerly await your replies....
  22. TAKE TIME FOR CHRISTMAS I'm bound to write a piece for this season It is on my heart to tell you the reason To share of my feelings, it's all about love For all of you riders, from the Master above. ******************************* It's not all that easy to send one away Many have felt that, when war had it's way We send out our loved ones, to God knows where at To fight for what's right, and then lonely we sat We worried, we stewed, and hardly could bear The thought, that maybe, no more moments to share To wait for the time when all would be done Would they be safe? and the struggle be won? If you have not yet had that feeling inside Thank God for the peace He has 'llowed you to bide For many have learned and lost in the fight And then life went on in the dark of the night. No sharing of griefs would seem to replace The loss of a loved one, no more to embrace. The world has gone mad with it's race to succeed For years it has happened, and with you I now plead. The result is the same today, as before We will not find the rainbow of lore. It's peace that we need, of this I am sure So read to the end, there is hope of a cure. Jesus was born, His way to the fight He didn't have to do it, for Dad it was night. To let His Son go to fight with the devil It wasn't easy, and nothing was level. No rules were laid out, the battle was joined The outcome was known, but had to be coined. He lived 30 years and fought the good fight The end was His death on a cross in the night. For us He was born, so we might have passage If He were to rise, we could loose all our baggage Victorious He was and we can be thankful For the fact that He came and put down the devil. On Shopping and Santa we are focused today We're losing the story of Jesus and hay. He came to this world, for you and for me Take time in your life, His glory to see. Yes, take some of the day, that's has been set apart And worship The Soldier, from deep down in your heart. The future is bleak, while here we do ramble For ages we have tried and made it a scramble From one pit to another we tumble at best Today we're no closer to meeting our quest. We think we can do it, we have it in hand But then we soon realize; our Captain is banned From schools to the judge, from work and from play When will we realize we've thrown it away? What is our goal,,, will it take the right bend? We need to consider our course in the end! Forever is long, and there is no going back Make up your mind now, and give it no slack. Consider the road that leads to perfection! Just ask Him to join, there'll not be rejection. A family for certain, and sure we have troubles But peace in the end and then,,,, no more struggles. Carl Norg
  23. When's the last time you saw one of these? If I only could fit. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/mcy/3487432169.html
  24. Hello everyone I am interested in learning more about my 2003 venture which was recently purchased. I have ridden a total of 30 miles on it, but has 24xxx. I am confused and concerned about things such as the lowering kit, how it's on and any advice on what to look for. Was there any adjustments on the front end? Tires, brakes, electrical etc. the shop says all is good, but I feel weird not knowing much. I live in spring hill, and some that were on the left coast have expired memberships. I am willing to ride down and meet with anyone who is available and willing to show this newbie about RSV. Perhaps anyone in the Tampa / St. Pete/, or anyone near hillsborough, pasco, Hernando, citrus, counties. Heck, I will even trek to Ocala. There are some nice roads by me and some nice little beaches and bars / eateries if some want an excuse to ride this way I would appreciate all input and your time as well. No rush and perhaps there may be more free time after the holidays. I am open to suggestions. Thank you all. Barrycuda.
  25. As some of you may know, I retired from my job this past May. I have been busy doing a lot of things that I never seemed to get around to doing when I was working full time. So like men, women have projects too, and here are some photos of the ones I just completed. Now I need to find something else to do. Yama Mama
