  1. Well I ordered the SS brake lines and Flanders bars from http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ and installed all today. Thanks to all the help here and especially my brother Chris. We worked on this all day, from about 7 AM until 10 PM tonight. We did take a few brakes and ate three good meals today that my wonderful wife cooked up. We did all the front and rear brake lines, clutch line, and throttle upgrade. Everything has new Dot 4 fluid and no air. I removed the tank, so I decided that before we put the tank back on, it would be good to go ahead and install the new plugs (NGK DPRea8-9). So we did after removing the dog bones. The plugs gap at 30-35. I put them on 32. The plugs torque at 13 lb each also. So for those inclined to do the SS line upgrade. Would I recommend this as a do it yourself job ? Yes, for those somewhat mechanically inclined. You should plan on a good all day to do it all. I still have to button up a few things, and put all the tools back up. The SS lines will adjust somewhat at the connections and there is a tool included to do this. I would recommend you use plastic garbage bags to cover everything up so the brake fluid does not harm your paint. Fuzzy
  2. I would like to get a tank bag for my RSTD. Does any one have any experience with the Yamaha tank bag part#STR-4WM64-21-00. I don't need a big one, just a place to put a camera and some cash for easy access. The local stealer has a pretty nice Joe Rocket tank bag that is small and can be placed to not interfere with the gas cap etc. http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/251/381/Luggage/Manta_Tank_Bag My needs would be satisfied with a windshield bag, but because of the '57 chevy speedo, there are not a lot of options in that route. Not really looking for a tank bib either.
  3. Talked with Hannigan Motor Sports this morning about the auxiliary fuel tank they will be offering for their trike conversion kit. It is still in R&D and no date is available as to when it will be available. The tank will be 5 gallons. It will be placed under the passenger seat and a filler nozzle nearby with key The unit will not be a gravity fed unit and will have a pump and switch. The price with be just under 700.00 and does not include installation.
  4. I am really tired of sitting on my bike and rocking it back and forth to fill the tank to the top. I am thinking of drilling some holes in the inside sleeve of my gas tank. The sleeve is solid and goes into the tank about 2 inches from the inside edge of the collar. It keeps me from filling the tank that last half gallon unless the rocking ( which looks really ridiculous) and it burps fuel all over sometimes. Anybody else have this kind of experience? Editing because after this posted the threads for this topic came up and I saw the fix and comments from V7 Goose. Don't know why these threads didn't show up on search. BTW thanks V7 Goose, I would have drained the tank, pumped in co2 and drilled it but like your idea much better!
  5. I've worn a hole through mine and wondered if anyone is still making these. I think the guy in FL that I got mine from is no longer making them. If no one has any ideas then I will probably bring my old one to a leather place and have them fix it or use it as a template to make a new one. If I had one made would there be any intrest in this.
  6. I've been thinking about installing a large Home backup Generators one of these years. Probably 20 KW or larger. Anyone have one or have installed one. Like to get myself educated on the pros and cons, also open to suggestions if there might be a better idea. I currently have two propane furnaces (1 for main floor and one for basement apt -rental) and a propane hot water tank all supplied by a 500 gal propane tank. When I upgrade appliances I would consider going to propane ranges and dryers. Need enough power for the following: Main floor home Basement Apt (Complete Set of appliance) Hot Tub Heat Pump(Heat and Air Conditioner) Detached garage/shop (No Welder just normal electricity needs)
  7. i was out driving my 2005 pontiac grand prix 74.000 miles on it i was down to a 1/4 tank of gas then the check engine light came on? this has done this before in may on my trip to MN but after a fresh tank of premium gas it went off? and has not come back on untill now when i went and put a half a tank of gas in 2 days ago and ran it down to the 1/4 of a tank. this was regular gas not premium? im hoping that now that i filled it with premium it will go off again after running this tank out? any ideas what could be the cause of this? i just cant afford a major problem right now. i dont feel any loss of power? thanks oldgoat
  8. I keep my bike in a WheelDock wheel chock when it is in the garage. On Friday night I was cleaning the bike and absent-mindedly put the kickstand up. On saturday I was getting ready to roll it out and remembered it had a full tank of gas, so I went to put some seafoam in. I ended up spilling it on the gas tank and was worried about what it would do to the paint. So I ended up cleaning that up, breaking my routine because I started to get into a rush. I backed it out of the garage and was startled when it kept going when I tried to put it on the kickstand. What a shock. It is tough to get back up, it surprised me when it happened and I had trouble thinking strait. Any way, I did get it up, but remember to check the kickstand.
  9. I have a dent in the tank on the top it's not creased or pionted in the center Have any of you seen the videos of them heating it up with a hair dryer and spraying it with CO2 and the dent poping out and does that really work ???
  10. Dealer just completed warranty on the 07 RSV replacing the cylinder head gaskets front and rear. I have found what appears to be a vacumm hose disconnected beneath the fuel tank. I can't tell where the rear connects, however the forward end of tube is long enough to reach the air cleaners and perhaps more. Idle is not smoothe and there is a vibration getting up to higher rpm's. Once you reach mid to high rpm's it smoothes out. Mechanic stated it is a vent tube and stuffed it back under the tank. The end of the hose physically is expanded and looks to have had a clamp on it originally He did a carb sync and it seems only slightly better. Next step is to remove the tank myself and determine where the hose originates on the connected end and go from there. I don't see specifics on the vent tubes in the service manual, however I may be missing something. Note: The checked the valve adjustment at this time as well, 30K, and stated all were within spec. It was running great before their having worked on it. Appreciate any suggestions/guidance here.
  11. I've read a couple of existing posts about fuel gauges, so I think I need to replace the sensor inside the tank. But, let me give a few details and see what y'all think. I have a 99 RSV that has under 1000 miles on it. Was sitting in some garage in pieces and put back together by the person I purchased it from. I replaced the main wiring harness b/c the person who took it apart in the first place did some stupid, nasty stuff to the wiring. Well, once I got it electrically working, and had the carbs rebuilt, there is still this odd fuel level reading issue. I DO get the yellow light telling me my tank is low, but my fuel level never reads anything but a blinking single bar after fill-up. I've pulled apart the connector under the black tank cover and put it back together, giggled it around a bit, and no change. Should I replace the whole piece inside the gas tank (4 screws, rotate it a bunch till it pulls out)? Thanks! - Michael
  12. I'm kinda bummed. The biggest thing is that my gas tank started a slight rust last year when I did my 83/86 Frankenbike. I've been dealing with it all season. The rust dust in the fuel will accumulate in my carb bowls until there's enough to foul my carbs and they start running like crap. I'm sick of blowing & draining my carbs regularly. After I clean them out, my Venture runs like a raped ape! I did put a couple of filters in line just before the carbs, and that lasted quite a while. Ultimately I'm sure I'll need to pull the gas tank (UUuugh!!) and clean it out/coat it. I bought a fuel filter that will filter down to 10 microns and I'll probably be installing that today so I can ride for another month or two despite the cold temps. I did some research on the web, and I think the rust dust varies between 5 and 200 microns. We'll see how that goes. My Vboost is totally awesome! The weather is all gray. It's supposed to snow this weekend. Down at the local Honda Powerhouse, there is a '98 Valkerie with 50K miles for 5 grand. I wish I had the money...I've always loved the Valkeries... Doug
  13. Is anyone making these now. I got the original one from the guy in FL and there is a hole worn through it. If someone wants to attempt it I could send the old one to them.
  14. Looking for a stock narrow "Tank Cover part#4XY-2171A-00-00" without any pouches. Does anyone have one just laying around that you've removed when upgrading to a leather one with pockets ??? If it's the right price, I'll pay shipping costs. Thanks, Mike
  15. I'm about to put my new-2-me 2000 RSV away for the winter and wanted to know if there was anything in particular you guys do when winterizing your scooters? I plan on taking the battery into the house, and running the carbs dry, draining the bowls, Is there anything else I should be watching for? Do I need to remove the gas tank to get at the carb drain plugs? Oh yes, I put a good wallop of Fuel conditioner into the tank and ran it for a good 10 minutes so the fuel hit the carbs. Cheers, D.W.
  16. I've recently purchased a 99 RSV and had to replace the main wiring harness. Well, I've been successful at that job, but when I took the fuel tank off the right front bolt that mounts the tank to the frame had been broken off by the former owner. I managed to get the broken bolt out of the frame. But, when I bought a replacement bolt and tightened the tank back on, my bolt also broke before it was tightened on the tank. So, the threads inside the frame are obviously royally screwed up. Any insight into whether this is a replaceable piece or will I need to re-thread the existing mount? If replaceable, any idea what the part number would be and/or where I would find it? Thanks! - Michael

    need help

we are in michigan for the weekend and twice yesterday a vacuum built up in the gas tank and the bike quit while going down the road. I pulled the rubber vent hose off the top of the tank and blew through it and it is not plugged. trying to blow through the nipple on the top of the tank does not seem to be letting air in but the hole is very small. I can't say for sure if it is plugged and can't find anything small enough to push through the hole. any suggestions. got lucky yestday and the bike did not shut off going down 75. if anyone has any suggestions on how to check the vent let me know.
  18. A while back, I had an issue with the bike not running. I was pretty sure it was the fuel pump, but turned out to be bad gas and plugged filter/line. Once again, the bike died on me less than a mile after leaving the house. This time it acted like it was hitting only 2 or 3 cyls. Check the pump, good. Checked the filter, good. Drained 1 qt of fuel from tank with reserve selected, good. My conclusion is it is either something in the tank occasionally blocking the fuel flow thru the petcock or a clogged jet. This last time it died, I could start it back up and it would run very rough. After about 5 minutes, it was like nothing was wrong. Tank and a half of fuel and a can of SeaFoam, it is running well. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
  19. Anyone have a good method of draining the gas tank on a MKII?
  20. I took the week off to ride around. It's been beautiful in WI this week and I've put about 1000 miles on the bike just putzing around. No serious rides, just here and there with no real purpose. It's been fun. Anyway, my travels today took me to my local dealer. My sales guy was interested in taking a look at the mods to my bike (flanders bars, Road King exhaust being the main ones he was interested in). Well, I was getting ready to leave and backed out of the stall and noticed a wet spot where I'd been parked. I said, "well at least I'm in the right place for a leak to start!!!" So, they pulled the bike into the shop and took a peek. The tech looked it over and said it was coming from the overflow hose on the gas tank. That has never happened before and I've got just over 10,000 miles on the bike and have been in the exact same situation many times before - i.e. warm day with a half tank of fuel. That leads me to two questions which I was hoping to get some thoughts on. First, as long as I've owned the bike I've never had a leak from that hose. Why now? I could completely understand if I over filled the tank but that wasn't the case with only a half a tank. Second and more importantly, the liquid that was coming out of the hose smelled like gas but had the consistency of oil. Any ideas? I asked the tech about it and he said if I'd never experienced a leak before from that hose, who knows what was in it when the fuel started coming out. Huh!!! That didn't make any sense to me at all so I thought I'd better ask all you experts. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank, Les
  21. i was thinking about a magnetic tank bag. i was going to mount three plates of metal to the underside of my false tank cover. but then, got to thinking, i remounted the tci to the air box. will the magnets mess with it? any thoughts? has anyone tried this?
  22. Hi I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale 1300. Apparently the ex-owner had not screwed down the gas tank cover and it flew off. So need to replace it. The bike is beige. 1) Does anyone have a tank cover for sale (in beige would be perfect!) 2) Does a tank cover from a 1200 Venture Royale fit a 1300 Venture Royale? Thanks!
  23. HI all. A buddy i ride with has an 07 V Star Classic 1100 and is having a problem. After about 90 - 100 miles of riding or when it gets to about a half tank of fuel the bike loses power like its starving for fuel. If he stops and fuels up the problem goes away that is until the fuel runs down to about half tank. So what do you think?? I had him try seafoam because seafoam cures all but with no luck. Thanks. Bill
  24. Just curious, who won (or traded for) the tank bibs from Nanci at Cody? Maybe putting it on a RSTD?
  25. I had rust issues with my gas tank a couple years back so I took the dive and tore the bike down and did a reseal using the Caswell epoxy treatment. That was a new product for me to use and I wondered about the long term results. I've had some failures before with other products. Every spring I pull the sending unit to inspect the tank and it has always looked fine. It's like a Thermos bottle inside with the epoxy. But I figured the true test would be the fuel filter itself. So while I was changing plugs the other day I changed the fuel filter. So with a bit over 12,000 miles since the last filter change I was happy for find NO sediment in the filter at all. Nada. That was a first. So if anyone is considering treating their fuel tank........ Go for it. The long term benefits are worth it. Not a single carb issue since the treatment. It's worth the time, effort and money to get it over and done with. Mike
