  1. due to all the aches and pains ridding the 1st gen during the Asheville rally I decided it was time to upgrade .So yesterday I did just that.It is silver in color with CD player, navigation system, and it will run off and leave a 1st gen with ease.It also has a REVERSE gear.Pictures to come later.By the way I did have it up to 130 mph today and it had a lot left in it
  2. My son has a recent problem with his bike (see above) it seems like a couple of the cylinders are not kicking in at the lower RPM's after about 3000RPM he said it feels like they are kicking in and running correctly. He has already run some seafoam through it. It is fuel injected orther wise i would think it was fouled pilot jets. Looking for other ideas.
  3. Bike feels like it's running out of gas at mid to high RPM. I took the fuel pump off and tested it to see if it was pumping fuel. I put the intake hose in a container of fuel and the outlet side above the same container and turned the key on. The pump will run and pump gas but will only run for approx. 5 seconds and then stop. If I turn the key off and turn it back on...the pump will again run and pump gas for 5 seconds and stop again. I this normal?? Mark
  4. It's time to find out if the ice-cream is as good this year as it was last year, so I did a test run tonight and so far I'm not sure,,, sooo I'm going to do another run tomorrow, 6:30pm. Anybody want to join me?
  5. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Dedicated to my Tessie of 15 years. Thank you for your unconditional love and dedication my beloved pet. Crossed the Rainbow Bridge 10 August 2012 @ 4:10PM Boomer....with heavy heart and many tears....
  6. well i cant get any air to build up. pump clicks but has no output. this bike has sat for a few years. the motor should run not click. so would this be the pressure switch turning it off. and could i disconnect the switch and run compressor. or is the system smarter than i think.
  7. went out to the jp cycles museum the other day and saw a first gen with a first gen "run flat" tire on it and thought i would share with everyone!
  8. I got the ok yesterday from thr eye doc to go for a spin after a bit over a month of sitting around wasting all the nice weather. the bike has been sitting covered out back so I go back and she started right up, I let it run for quite a while to get warm and run some seafoam thru the carbs. When I swent to go for a ride I make the first corner and pull in t clutch to shift and notice a drip onto the filler panel where the radio normally sits. , and when I checkwhere its coming from its brake fluid...i look around and see the sight glass has a crack in it. I was wondering about a cheap way to fix it, and thinking that JBWeld and soething about the size of a coin over the glass opening would fill that and fix it. Has anyone tried this? And do you think it will work? I also notice that it feels that Ive got a back brake drgging on the bike too, any easy ways of fixing that too? I am still having issues focusing on close objects so I am having to stick to simple jobs until this vision clears up. Thanks for the help and advice, Brian
  9. Brought my beast in yesterday for the spring service. I'm planning a road trip next month and when we looked it over the service guy and I agreed the the stock rear (11000km) was looking a bit iffy for a long run. He had a pair of venoms in stock, and I said "Sure, why not." When I picked it up that afternoon I took it for a run to get the 'new' off the tires. OMG! I've never been willing to push the beast hard because it felt heavy in the turns, a little squirelly. Within 10 minutes I was taking lean angles I'd never dared with it before and the thing was running like it was on rails. I actually managed to touch a floorboard to the road. Felt like the v-star 950 I traded in for it... It's a completely different bike. I know I've restarted the tire brand debate, but I had to say it.... I'm REALLY impressed with the venoms. I'll let you know how the durability works out, but the first impression is amazing.
  10. I bought a 2005 Midnight Venture from a friend in Texas, elevation 1000ft,and brought it to Colorado Springs, elevation 6,000 ft.I've noticed that when decelerating,it will sometimes backfire.....not real loud, but it does backfire.Seems to run fine and don't really notice any loss of power at higher (12-13'000 ft) altitudes.Just wondering if any other people live at higher altitudes and whether they had to rejet.
  11. well i took a week but i got the carbs rebuilt and everything together for a test run and this is the first fire up about 20 seconds after it started running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k04fsurJAWc&feature=youtu.be
  12. hello all as many may know i have had a bad running porblem with rt rear cycl i have ceaned jets changed coil took to two different shop last one dealer thay adj valves and tryed to sync carbs it is running better but still at 50 mph breaks down and will not run smooth dealer wanted to start changing parts hoping that it would fix it instead of trying to dignos it so i orded a set of carbs from pinwall today and hope that it will take care of problem the dealer said that with the bike being 12 rears old with 67000 mile it will never run right again i told him it did not mater how many mile or how old. it ran great before the problem started and should run right again if fixed correctly i guess ther are no mach only part changers bumble bee 1999 rsv
  13. We just returned from a vacation trip to Oregon for a week and a half. Jumped on the bike this morning, pulled the choke, and started it up. Trouble is that every time I pushed the choke button in the bike died. I filled the tank up just before we left so the gas is fresh. I figure that either the gas was bad from the gas station or my fuel pump is bad. Bad luck for me!
  14. I have a question that I've always wondered about. I'm sure plenty of you that have the mental data to prove this, will settle this question in my mind. Q. What air temperature do these normally aspirated motors in the Ventures and RSTD's that we ride like the most? What I'm asking is, do they run and perform better in warm-hot (summer) temps, or do they run and perform better in cool-cold (fall/winter) temps? Or, is it a matter of air thickness, and barometric pressure? The reason I asked is, sometimes on cool or more comfortable days, my bike acts like it really likes it, and is a little more responsive. Am I imagining things, or is it just that I feel better on those days? Just wondering.
  15. I plan on using permatex to seal the stator cover up along with using a new stator cover gasket, and I need to make sure those rubber peices where the wires run through are also sealed good. What kind of Permatex should I be using? Theres like... all these flavors!
  16. Can i get an answer on which side of the horizontal rod that has a white plastic wheel on the left side of carberators does the throttle cable run?
  17. ok there are coolants that claim to help a motor run 10-25 degrees cooler, do they work? or is it better to use antifreeze/coolant for the summer?
  18. I have a 2009 RSV OD at 30,000 I think my fuel pump has gone out. I can ride a quarter of a mile and then it will shut off as if it is not getting fuel. I stop and tap on it and it will go again. If your fuel line is disconected and no fuel in the lines should your fuel pump run and run or should it shut off after a few seconds. As this is what mine is doing. Thanks for reading this. Hope I can get some answers. By the way my bike is still under warranty, I just hate to take it to the dealership. Hal
  19. So here's the deal; my '06 RSV seems to enjoy leaving me on the side of the road once or twice a year, seemingly without a warning of more than a few seconds. There's been no consistency as to when it happens. I'd had it gone through shortly after purchase last year as it wasn't running well. A new ignition coil along with cleaning the carbs seemed to turn everything around. A month later I was leaving work, almost cold engine, and before even leaving the lot it sputtered and died. Only way I could get anything out of it was to use full choke and it would seem like it wanted to run but would die within 30 seconds or so. After about 10 minutes of trying, it started cleanly and ran great. A month later I was in traffic on a somewhat warm day and it started sputtering at a light and stalled when I tried to take off. The tank had about 4 gallons in it at the time but wouldn't restart no matter what I did. Had it flatbedded to my local Yamaha dealer and darn if it didn't start immediately They had no idea what had happened, especially since they had so recently serviced it. 14,000 miles and zero problems later it did it to me again 2 weeks ago! This time it was about 80 degrees and I had just come off an expressway running at 60 mph and it died seconds after waiting at the exit light. Again, it started after many tries with choke on full as if it was getting very little gas and the choke was "keeping a balance" on the A/F ratio, and has run great the almost 1000 miles since. I've run Seafoam through it, checked the plugs and they look great. Any ideas? I never have old gas in the tank as I ride so much. Even in winter the tank is kept full with ethanol formula stabilizer in it.
  20. Is there certain types of GPS units to use for motorcycles? I set up my Megelan $150.00 GPS from Canadian Tire on my V-Strom to go for a long new places ride. It started off good then after a couple hours started shutting itself down and "rebooting" then by the time I had found a few gravel roads and many roads that went no place at all I was on the highway to home and it just got into a loop of start up - shut down over and over. Now I think the battery is hooped as now when I unplug it it will not run at all, it used to run 1/2 hour or so. I had it mounted on the wind screen with the suction cup, maybe that is the bad. I know I had a link at one time for solid mounts but was never able to find a 1st gen to Megelan mount and now I have 2 bikes to put it on... what to do now? :mo money: :mo money:
  21. Last night after riding my '83 VR about 8 miles and watching my gas gage go from 3 bars to empty, I thought I better investigate. I pulled the cover off of the breather box so I could see the carbs. I noticed that when I rev the engine up that the slides are not moving very much. I can also see a lot of gas on top of the butterflies. I guess my question is, how much should the slides move? It seems to run very well out on the road but now I wonder how much better is should run. When I first crank it up after setting over night, it takes a few minutes for it to start hitting on all cylinders. This may be due to flooding. It starts very easy with no choke. I have checked the diaphragms and don't see any pin holes but they are very wrinkled looking. I really need help. Thanks in advance.

  23. First off, Thank you to the person that sent my a front brake house. Can't remember who did it, but I'm very grateful! If you look at the pic below I put an arrow at the carb that is sticky. I need some kind of guide to get it to run. Anyone has a how to take the carbs out to clean them or any other ideas. Thank you in advance
  24. I have a really sweet 89 Venture now, and I feel a little strange for owning 3 at a time, so I want a v-max. The Drag car of the bike world. Anyone have any leads. Cash is short right now, so i would really prefere a trade. I made a really nice, running 83 out of the two i have. The one just needs a rear master cylinder. The other one needs the carbs put together and both will run just fine. I have the fairings and all other plastic torn off the the one that doesnt currently run. The one that does run has like 28 thousand miles, and the one that doesnt have 58k. The one with 58k ran until i tore it apart for carb parts.
  25. I rode the revamped Venture today for the first time in over a year, it was really surprising, I had forgotten how heavy that bike is. I took it easy on the first ride, still no rear brakes, but just ran it around the neighbor hood and ran it thru the gears, its so nice to have 2nd gear. Waiting on the rear master cylinder that Bongobobny is sending me, and I am ordering all new diaphragms for it, it should really run good after they get put in and carb tuned. I cant believe I did the tranny swap, its the biggest repair I have taken on so far, hopefully that will be the last. I couldnt have done it without all the tech articles here. $12.00 well spent.
