    Sturgis 2014!

I'll be there. 3rd year in a row for me. Stayed at Creekside Campground last year and will probably stay there this year as well. Would like to meet up with you guys.
  2. I put the Commander IIs on my Midnight Venture a few thousand miles ago. I love them.It handles way better than the E3s I had before.I push my bike hard and love to corner carve here in the mountains of Colorado.I have never felt anything like the breaking loose or skittishness that some report. If I get decent miles from them,I'll buy another set.If not,I'll put on Elite 2s,skinny front and all.
  3. I'm staying at Creekside Campground.$15 a night with a 3 night minimum.I'll be there on the 6th.
  4. Riding up from Colorado Springs on the 6th.Staying at the Creekside Campground. Will try to come to the breakfast.
  5. I run the 130 front tire and had Metzeler 880s on the Venture.I like them but the rear tire just didn't seem to last too long.It gave up on me on my way to California last month and the dealer I stopped at put a D404 on the rear.It handled fine but it is BALD at 4,000 miles.I'd just hate to sink $275 into the Michelins and not get the mileage I would get if I spent $325 and got Elite IIs or E3s.
  6. I went last year.Rode my Midnight Venture from Colorado Springs and stayed in Custer.Only spent one day in Sturgis itself and did a lot of riding the other two days I was there.I had never been to a big rally and didn't know what to expect.I had a great time.I'm going back this year and plan to camp. There were a lot of things I wanted to do last year and didn't have time.Go and enjoy it,even if it turns out to just be a bucket list thing.
  7. I need new tires for my Midnight Venture.I've searched for threads on the Commander II and have found a lot of information but I haven't found how many miles people are getting from them.I see a lot of threads on the Avons and E3s where people say "I got xx,xxx miles from them".I can't find the same thing for the Commander IIs. I always used Dunlop K491 Elite IIs on my Goldwing and loved them. They handled great and wore like iron.Has anyone used them on a Venture? I can get the Commander IIs for about $60 a set cheaper than Elite IIs and $30 cheaper than Elite 3s But I'd rather spend more and get a tire I KNOW I can get the most miles out of.Any information would be appreciated.
  8. I put in my info and it shows the marker in Colorado Springs but if I leave the map and come back,my marker is gone.
  9. I did my valves a few months ago at 34,000 ish miles.Had to adjust 9 of them.Technically,3of those were within spec but they were right at the limit.I adjusted them all to the middle of the range.Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.Thanks to skydoc 17 for the use of the special tool and the shim kit.
  10. Going to put grip warmers on my Venture, the kind the go under the grips. Can I reuse the stock grips and if so,How do I get them off without tearing them up?If not, what aftermarket grips work on the Venture?I'm not looking for something fancy and expensive like Kuryakyn, just a basic grip.
  11. I'm doing my valve check on my 2005 Midnight Venture tomorrow and have a question.I got the bike seat, tank, air filters, surge tanks and carbs off.Next is draining the coolant. The manual says to take off the side covers, one of the mufflers and remove the exhaust pipe from the #4 cylinder. Is all that REALLY necessary to drain the coolant?
  12. Victory is putting Elite II on their brand new Judge. I put Elite IIs on my Goldwing within the last 6 months. Those prices aren't bad but for some reason, the 2s cost more than the 3s..I like the Elite IIs WAY better than the 3s.
  13. Glad to hear.I was wondering about him as I've tried to get in touch with him about his shim kit.
  14. I have an '05 and the F count and the fuel light will come on with 2 bars showing. It always varies as to when I actually have to switch to reserve.Once,I had to after only 1.5 miles, another time it was 18 miles before reserve. It usually takes 4-4.5 gallons to fill up.
  15. What is the special tool? Do you have a part number? The bike has 30,000 miles on it,what are the odds that any are out of spec?
