  1. I ordered the Barnett Clutch Kit, plates & pressure plate, back in August of 2010. Because of health reasons, (more like apprehension/Lazyness), I didn't install it until this morning. I found a page on this site for clutch replacement and finally dug in. I got it all appart and saw something about noticing the marks on the clutch plates, which I saw on the originals but not on the Barnett. So, I figured that it doesn't matter & put it together anyway. But, before tightening it all down, I decided to cover it up and check for replacing with BARNETT Clutches. Boy am I glad I stopped!! I obviously have the wrong clutch package. So, come Monday, I will be on the phone ordering the correct clutch plate set. I will have to overnight it because we are heading to Ohio mid May. So, this clutch replacement is going to cost me MUCH more. I guess that is the price I pay for putting things off! Craigr
  2. I was wondering if anyone knows of a replacement or some way to replace the top half of the CB antenna. I have 2 friends missing the top piece above the black part. Is it possible to make up something that will work or find a place that sells just that part?
  3. I had a custom LED setup for my rear lights, but one of the diodes burned out. I had a friend look at it and because he doesn't know what the diode types are he doesn't think he can fix it. He tried, but it lasted about 30 seconds and burnt out again. Any suggestions for a replacement? The one I had was like this - http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm - but $90 plus shipping seems a bit much for a bunch of LEDs on a board. Does anybody know a reasonable replacement for a better cost? I have a regular bulb in there for now, so I don't think there's any kind of short. Bike is a 2001 1300 RSV
  4. Howdy folks. I am in the process of trying to identify an intermittent problem with my bike. unfortunately I think this may end up including needing to replace the ignition module. I have found some form Pinwall (and another member has offered me one that he purchased used) and I am aware of the Dyna 3000 as a replacement. I don't really have any interest in doing the Dyna replacement and my preference would be for a unit that has a reasonably well known history (ie out of someone's bike that got upgraded to a Dyna unit or something like that). So my question is does anyone have a spare module out of their RSV that they took out for the purpose of replacing the current one with a dyna or whatever? If so, would you be willing to part with it, for how much, etc etc. Thanks a lot!
  5. We have floorboards on my wife's 84 1200 trike and were wondering if they could be fitted to a 93 1300 that we are thinking of buying as a replacement which will also be triked. We are looking at several 93s but only one has floorboards.
  6. I was looking at the front of my 2006 RSTD next to my 2009 Liner. The liner light looks SOOOO much better. Is there an aftermarket headlight assembly replacement for the RSTD? Any pictures of bikes with this done? Also looking for passing lights to match them. I was looking at the Yamaha lights and bar, but heard about power draw on the light bar as well as all the other options. Whatever headlamp I decide on, I'm going to get some passing lights that compliment it.
  7. Putting this out there for having a M/D on Sat. March 31st. I wasn't able to do it this past year due to knee replacement. I'm looking to have one this next year again so lets see what we can setup. Steve
  8. Aloha, Just returned from a riding trip in Central and Southern, CA on my 2006 Venture. It appears that it's time to replace my battery on my 06 Venture. Located a discussion on the same subject back in 2006. Wondering if battery technology has changed since the 2006 posts that I should consider, especially since I've noticed replacement batteries ranging from $50 to $140. Thanks in advance for your sage advice.
  9. I owne and ride 35000km a year mostly two up, on a 08 Concours 14, but my wife received knee replacement surgery and we decided for the adventure to continue that a more comfy ride was needed, so I purchased a 1991 Venture Royale with 106000km and will receive it next week-end, I also purchase a 1983 VR, stripped the bike completely for parts(mk1 and mk2 have alot in common but some parts are different), this site is really full of great expertise and helps me plan on making my new ride as efficient possible. I will change and inspect parts defective, all fluids and grease where needed. Based on my reading, special attention and replacement of front forks springs to progressive, new steering bearing, fork brace and my favorite 'brakes, I tried and really dont like the linked brakes system and would like to delink, plus my right rotor is fried blue and needs replacement and will upgrade to R6 Calipers witch I got a pair in the garage. I figured finding a pair of rotor would be easy to find because on my C14 I have spare parts like, complete forks and brake parts, exhausts etc. All bought on eBay and really cheap. Surprise no front rotors and worse no new rotors, except the Chinese whom have 282mm but only 5mm thick and ???quality. There seems no compatibility except certain early VMax or Fj, but nothing offered, those rotos are rare to say the least. Anybody with a mk2 right rotor. Mike
  10. Has anyone tried the Evans Waterless engine coolant yet in their motorcycle. I see that Jay Leno's Garage has a short segment on the product. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/ They do have a version for power-sports now and I am thinking of converting over this spring to it as it is billed as a lifetime coolant never needing replacement or wearing out. It also has the benefit of non-corrosive and higher boiling point then water based coolants. Here is their website.. http://www.evanscooling.com/ Thanks Rick F.
  11. Is it possible to effectively repair a sintered metal part ? My daughter broke the mirror stem on her motorcycle (closed the garage door on it ) and a new replacement is at least $55 . She asked if I can repair it before she goes and buys a new one.
  12. I took the liberty of documenting my replacement with photos & details. I think it would be a big help to Venture newbies who have never seen (much less worked on) a 1st Gen 63236.pdf
  13. REPLACEMENT WINDOWS Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive double-pane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them. Hellloooo,............just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year! I told him. There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. I bet he felt like an idiot.
  14. My Garmin Zumo 550 died a slow death. It had served me well for about 2 years and 50k miles. A lot of hard rain and plenty of Texas heat. It started by not responding to the touch screen inputs. Sometimes it would correct it's self and work for a day or two. Finally it started making its own selections and became just useless. I shopped around looking for possible replacements. I could pick one up from eBay but there is always a chance of problems and 4-500 dollars is more than I want to risk. I looked at possibly a new one but that too is just more money than I could spare. Finally, out of desperation, I called Garmin. Turn out they have a refurbishment program for most all of their models. The price varies per model. The Zumo 550 costs $150. Get a return authorization, box it up, (just the main unit), and ship it to them. About a week later I received a replacement unit, they don't repair and return yours, they just want to make sure it is repairable. The replacement unit was shiny like new and worked perfectly. All in all, a simple, price effective alternative to buying a replacement. Thumbs up to Garmin.
  15. I have noticed a rattle in two of my speakers one in back and one in front both on the right side. Still have warranty left so should be covered right. Also cassette quit this past weekend had to dig the tape out. Is it worth having the dealer replace the speakers or are there better replacement speakers out there. Can't decide on whether to have the tape deck replaced or not my late 70's early 80's collection showing a lil age. My dealer told me that clarion was the one to warranty repairs on the radio and you kind of get what you get on replacement he mentioned refurbished control as an example. What should i expect from my dealer. Has this been an issue for anyone like to have my guns loaded when i take it in if i need them.
  16. hope v7goose is on here. looked up replacement pumps and found the napa posi-flo part # 610-1050 but saw were it had 4-6.5 psi and thought that v7goose said its better to go with the factory spec at 3 psi and not dobule it. i did find a napa pump with part # 610-1051 whis has 3-4.5 psi so is this the better choice??? thanks for your answer.
  17. I lost my left side front speaker cover today while riding my 03 GL1800. Anybody know the part number or where I can pick up a replacement cover/grill?
  18. I have acquired a replacement for the plug in connector at the stator (generator, alternator, magneto etc.) These are a direct replacement for what is on the 1st gen bike from the factory. Not sure about the RSV's. General recommendation is to eliminate this connection, I am aware of that. However, I prefer to have mine unplug-able. The connection is a problem if the pins become corroded or fatigued with age. A new replacement set will be good for a long time if soldered in place. This is a direct replacement for the existing plug so it is possible to only replace one side of connection if desired, not recommended. A set of these is $12.00 including US & Canada first class shipping. This includes the male & female side of the plug and 3 each male & female connector pins. From experience, Canadian postal service takes at least 10 days and at times 20 or more. Picture shows several sets of connectors, so they can be seen from different sides. Paypal is gary(at)dinges.com replace (at) with @ They will also be in classifieds. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/DSC02347.jpg
  19. the virago is up for sale in the classified section, here is the replacement 2006 royal star midnight tour deluxe.
  20. Is there a non-air replacement possibility for the rear shock? My load is pretty consistent and don't neccessarily need the flexability of air. I change over to progressive shocks when I had a kawasaki voyager and was pretty happy with it. Sooo I was wondering if anyone has ever checked out a non-air replacement for our ventures. 2nd gen of course. The rears are showing some bad signs and I think it is getting close to replacement time. Thanks. Bill
  21. ----in one of my work benches. I was looking for something and re-discovered this thing. I think it is a voltage regulator.?.?. Many, many, many (those are to explain my memory loss) years ago my '84 Venture Royale stopped charging. As I recall, I first changed the voltage regulator (cheap way out if it worked), but that did not fix it. I replaced the stator and it was like brand new. This thing has followed me around from Southern California to Michigan to Indianapolis. I do not know if it is the replacement I bought or if it's the one off of my VR. My guess is that it is the original from the VR. I do know it will not fit anywhere on my GL 1800. Here's the deal--- if you can identify it and have a need for it (or just want it), you can have it for the shipping cost. I would probably try to send it parcel post. No guarentee, but as I can best recall, it was working fine and I would not have kept it if I did not think it was O.K.
  22. The neutral switch on my 87 XVZ1300 is leaking oil. After opening the side cover I see that the wiring is cooked pretty well and I'd like to replace the switch assembly while I'm in there. Have a source for a new old stock 1984 XVZ1200L switch and am wondering if that would work as a replacement? The price is reasonable as compared to the dealers crazy price. If it won't work, does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced replacement switch. Part numbers on the package of the possible replacement part are 41R-82540-01 A890725C 62 0612-3
  23. I'm in the process of doing a fork seal replacement and was wondering...is it best to pull the anti-dive leads out at the "dash" and route them back in afterwards or can I remove the unit on the fork tubes and re-install it? This is a "quickie" replacement and I won't be taking the tubes apart. I'll just be sliding the old seals out along the tubes and the new ones back in the same way after pulling the fork tubes out of the "tress".
  24. Do somebody knows if there is a direct replacement of the thermostat of a 1997 RS with a NAPA one? I already order one original, but probably will not be here before the MD, and I don't want to miss that weekend. Thanks
  25. 1983 Venture XVZ12TK My key failed to turn the ignition main switch, and I could feel that the pins in there were totally trashed. Nothing was going to fix this but a replacement of the whole ignition. The old part number was 26H-82501-00-00. The new part number is 26H-82501-01-00. It finally arrived and what a surprise. The new part is designed in such a way that it cannot be installed without some major mechanical work on it. The two bolts that hold this main switch in place are in a recessed cavity, like a little volcano with a hole at the bottom for the bolt. (See photo Original Part.) I had to use two long extenders on my 3/8" drive to get to it, because it was so far up in the front end, but get to it I did and removed these bolts. However, when it came to installing the new switch, this recessed cavity is much narrower. Sure, the bolt will fit in there, but there is no way to also get in there a #10 socket or an open-end or box-end wrench, or even the points of needle nose pliers. None. Nada. Nix. I spent three hours cutting down three sides of the volcano walls on each side. (See results of this not-very-pretty work Replacement Part.) I used my drill with regular drill bits and a special side-cutting bit. I used my Dremel with cutoff wheels, grinding wheels, and even two dental bits that I obtained from my dentist some years ago. I even used a saber saw. Someone, somewhere didn't think about having to install this when they designed the replacement part. If I knew who to forward this information to a Yamaha HQ, I would certainly do so. Anyone know how to do this? Really, if this new ignition switch is common to a lot of years of Ventures, the pain will be spread a long way. I wonder if they use this part in new bikes, and if so, how to they turn the bolts? Comments welcome, especially if you can tell me how to get this info to Yamaha HQ.
