1. ready for new pads on '07 RSTD w/approx. 18k miles. i believe i want to go with EBC organic pads - where do you guy purchase yours??
2. When out riding I will stop at a bar and have a Soda. Won't drink anything stronger when I'm on bike. Thing is I stopped this afternoon and ran face to face with a guy I hadn't seen since June 14th 2006 at 9:58 PM. Anybody know him yet?? After a short conversation with this guy I left and came home. I know if I had started I would not have been able to quit. Might have got my ass kicked I'm not the guy I was then but fear of that didn't stop me I was afraid I would kill him. He was drunk this time also and I told everybody in the bar what he did to me and he denied it. I'm shaking as I write this and might be stupid enough to go back. The pain and everything this A-hole caused me and he claims it wasn't him. Then he claims he was backing off the road. Got tounge tied and couldn't get lies straight. When I left I pointed at everyone else in the place and said. You folks all have a great night then ended up with my fingeralmost touching his nose ans said " And you go straight to hell" Walked out and waited in parking lot for about 10 minutes. No show and I think I'm glad. OK I'll quit. I just never wanted to hurt someone so bad in all my life and I didn't??? Must be getting old.
3. A new member here jpbragwell1215 came by the house today. He rides a Tour Deluxe. We had a chance to compare bikes and talk a while. A really nice guy.
4. Has anyone ordered a seat cover from B and H Specialties (http://www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/index.htm). Their prices are good but just wondering if anyone has experience with them and if so are you happy with the replacement cover. The seat on my 85 venture has the stickies and I want to get it replaced. A local guy wants $400.00 to recover the seat and backrest. B and H Specialties would be about $176.00 for both. What are your thoughts?
5. We stopped in Sheridan Wy to do a little shopping and pick up some groceries and gas for the space shuttle. I was just coming up to the intersection to get back on the I-90 and a guy pulls out of gas station with a boat on a trailer and lucky for him it was me he cut off. Just as he pulled out I put my foot on the brakes and I see something fall from his vehicle. It was his wallet, full of cash, credit cards and ID. I stopped right on top of it and Mary went out and gathered up as much as she could without getting run over. She is sure she didn't get all the cash. By now the guy is booting it up the on ramp and way out ahead. No chance to catch him with the shuttle, even with the Ultra Power upgrade. So what should I do? By the time I got on the hwy. he was out of sight. I pulled over at the first opportunity and went thought the wallet looking for a phone number and all I found was a personal check with a phone number but the last two digits couldn't be read. There was a business card for a county parole officer (don't jump to conclusions) so I called the number but the women didn't work there any more. The guy I talked to did some digging and came up with a cell number. I tried it, no answer, but the recorded message was by the guy so I left a message with my cell number. Haven't heard anything yet but we're at Devils Tower tonight and there's no cell reception. If I don't hear anything tomorrow I guess I'll just pack it all in an envelope and ship it back to him. My dilemma is that I have no idea how much money might have blown away and I don't want him thinking I stoled it. We found one, hundred dollar bill but who knows how many there were? I was in the middle of the road holding up traffic and wasn't too worried about a few that got away.
6. Took some of the things I learned and transferred them to my sons truck. We have been trying to get rid of my sons 98 Ranger and had no luck do to a number of things wrong with it the biggest being my son told me the clutch was bad. So most would not look at it but one did and when I went for a test drive the brakes were grinding so after the guy left I took it home to change the front pads and while I was under there I saw the bleeder on the clutch slave so I opened it nothing happened so I got out a large syringe like you would inject a turkey with and put some suction on it and it started to fill with black sludge filled the clutch did it again saw a bubble in the sludge then it came clear put it back together and it was good as new. The next guy bought it even though it won't hold power steering fluid and the ball joint are falling apart. Thanks again for the lesson:big-grin-emoticon:
7. Today Moped and I went to a festival in Shandon, Ohio. There was a tractor, car, and bike show! I will post some of the car photos in another thread soon. However the interesting story here, is the bike that one. I unfortunately could not take a photo of it, because my camera battery died right at that moment. The winner was a 1988 Venture Royale. It was in perfect condition too. It was a pearl white two tone color scheme. Really looked nice. At the time the winner was announced, we were talking to a guy who was selling his 02 Indian motorcycle. His friend had a homemade chopper in the contest too. He received a plaque, but the guy with the Venture won a big trophy. I do not think they were very happy that the Venture won. It was a really nice one too. Yama Mama
8. I was down at the North Star Power Sports last Thurs at noon picking up a new speedometer cable for my bike. There were about 4 people ahead of me in line. Anyhow, the guy being helped was ordering parts for a Venture. Was that you? Just asking as there aren't many Ventures in the area.
9. Does the Venture make my head big? Actually, this is still a project in the works. The guy that is doing this caricature is excellent...he is only part of the way done with this so far. Can't wait to see the finished product. Here's a couple of comparison pics...this guy is good...very good.
10. Hello, Im the new guy. What would make the right side cylinder's run hotter than the left side? Much more heat coming off the right than the left after a few miles, Im just wondering if this is normal or not? I have not owned a venture before been a Harley,Honda goldwing guy for a long time till now.
11. I am tired of putting a stick under the lid for my HF x-cargo trailer when I want to load or unload. What is the right type of shock to buy and how do I mount them? Iowa Guy
12. Went camping last week, on the way home HalRSV99 noticed a trailer on the side of the road so we stopped. Very clean and well cared for. Made an offer and the guy accepted so now we can go camping with a little comfort. Brad
13. I went up to fuel up at my neighborhood gas station for a nice little trip down to Corpus Christi, I saw this and had to take a few shots. My question is, why on the trailer though? The guy is from Houston, headed home. The other bike is a Valkarie trike so I wasn't as impressed. I wonder how much HP that Chev power plant puts out?
14. Well Folks, I could not wait on Yamaha...I absolutely loved my Midnight RSV BUT I wanted fuel injection and a few other updates so I had no choice but switch my rides. I purchased a 2010 Level 3 GoldWing 1800 with alot of accessories. I am VERY pleased with it and yes I knew I would need to get use to the foot and leg position but it is working out better than expected. Ill always stay on this site and ALWAYS be here to help VentureRiders with ANY problems and a place to stay while traveling thru. Ive learned alot about the Ventures and if Im off I will be able to assist anyone. I sold my Midnight RSV to a darn nice guy in Louisiana,Ill let him Identify IF he wants..He doesnt post much and I feel its his to post if he wants...I can say for the Big Guy that I am I had a tear in my eye when he drove away on it! Now here are a few pictures..
15. Caution: :rant: I'm pretty honked at this dealership and they know it, the several customers that were in the store knew it and the manager didn't really seem to care. After finalizing the checks on my bike before my upcoming trip, I saw that my front tire had gotten MUCH worse than it was - cracking in tread has grown significantly, etc. So in the interest of saftey, I figure it is probably best to put a new tire on before I go. Which is unfortunate because a few weeks ago when I had made arrangements for my Rear tire to get replaced the front one looked just fine - about half worn (based on measurements) and no cracking. So with all of the dealers in Lubbock being closed on Monday I called around and found the next closest that claimed they had 3 Dunlop E 3s in stock in the appropriate size for my bike (all of this so that I can have it mounted and be on the road tomorrow or Wednesday). I called first to check to see if they had one and then a second time to verify and buy it. Business concluded on the phone and I was out the door. 2 hour drive later (135 miles one way) arrived at the dealership and pumped to pick up my tire so that I can be on the road in a few days sort of as planned. Went up to the parts counter and asked to pick up my tire and they asked what I was looking for. The guy went back to the back and came back with a meltzer in hand (which I believe was not even the correct size) and said that is all they had. I inquired a little further as to what I had discussed on the phone and what happened to the 3 E3s that they told me they had ON HAND and the ONE that I bought (or so I thought) and the guy shrugged and said that he didn't know. Coincidentally (very sarcastically stated) the price of the meltzer was the same as what I was quoted for the E3. When questioning further he looked up what E3s they had on hand and the answer was NONE. They didn't have a single E3 ON HAND, they had some on order, but none ON HAND. And this doofus verified it by telling me that the meltzer was just as good as any other tire, blah blah blah. At this point I am so honked that I don't ever care about the tire so much as the principle here. I spent 4 hours in the car, drove 270 miles round trip, all based on this salesman that told me TWICE (two separate phone calls) that he walked back and put his hands on the tire that he sold me. All to get up there and find out otherwise. Now, I am a very calm and patient person, I did not raise my voice at all - I spoke sternly when we started going back and forth, but I am a firm believer that yelling at someone gets you no where in a hurry so I almost always maintain my composure and deal in a rational, logical and considerate fashion. A few minutes into this ordeal a guy that introduced himself as the parts manager asked what was going on (while doofus # 1 was back looking for my tire) and I explained the situation to him. When doofus #1 came back, the manager looked at the doofus and just walked away. No comment to anyone, nothing further to me, not a thing. At this point there were a few other folks that were waiting around the parts counter and no doubt hearing everything that is transpiring. I give a quick call to my CC company to see if the dealership charged me for the tire and the answer was 'no', upon that I requested that nothing be approved from that dealership and that if anything fishy starts happening with that card to cancel it immediately (also gave the name and number of the parts guy at the dealership that took my CC info). After I hung up with the CC company the parts guy asked if I 'still wanted' the Meltzer. At this point I asked if he had listened to any part of the conversation (that WAS a two-way conversation) that him and I had just had and said you will not be getting my business, now or ever again and walked away. The other few people that were waiting at the parts counter followed me out the door and also left in/on their respective vehicles. What a rip. 270 miles and 4 hours, down the drain - all because of what: 1) Sleezy sales practices 2) Negligence or 3) incompetence 4) honest mistake (multiple times in a row)? And what can I do - nothing but pi$$ and moan. I'm out vehicle/travel expense, still don't have a freaking tire, and now am probably going to be another day or two late to Nelson. I guess a lot of this is my own dumb fault anyways. I guess that is what I get for getting my hopes up, not having a spare tire laying around, or trusting that voice on the phone. Maybe you folks in Amarillo have had good experiences there, maybe not. I don't know. Just figured I would get the word out to those that may trust these folks the same way I did. Thanks for listening. I'll go sit in my corner now.
16. Well coming home from work yesterday at 4:15 I got t boned in my truck. The guy hit me hard enough to put me on two wheels. I have a 1995 Chev Z71 full sized 4 wheel drive, he has a full size van. I feel like ... umm well like I got hit by a truck this morning but not hurt too bad. For some reason the CHP did not waant me to get near the guy that hit me so I have to get the report to get the insurance for him. I have to go to the tow lot to get my tools out of the truck this morning; more $ in tools than the truck is worth. He came frome a side street and I never saw him till he hit me. Be careful out there Rod
17. Peaks and Valleys ….. We got new windows installed (living room bay ---beauty, kitchen and dining room and one in the laundry room) and front and back doors. Happy has hell with the results, finished Tuesday at 4pm. Look great!! PEAK!! The guy doing the front door shows me a small sinkhole in the front porch… I’m like WTF, upon discovery it is the water main leaking upon entry to the Chateau. Have to rip up the porch and lawn to replace 40 yr old line. Seems like every second house has this problem lately. Get about a $G quote from local guy, IF I do the repair to the porch, He’ll pack the gravel and screening and thinks he can come under the retaining wall. So he digs, replaces line and repacks for a grand!! VALLEY!!! I figure screw this…. Insurance! I can hear the water running under there plain as day, what is it doing? … in case there is more damage. First we start out with “sorry sir not covered BS” but I talk to supervisor and quote section & paragraph of policy (35a)…. They send out contractor. They WILL cover excavating and refill, porch repair but NOT pipe replacement. Of course minus my $400 deductible. Contractor guy was from Paris, had a little chat about motorcycles and Paris cafes (we’re buds) then he tells me he is going to send them in a quote of about …. Hold on …. $4000 - $5000. So if I can get the local guy to make up a estimate of what he would charge for doing the porch repair too, send that in and hopefully I at least get my $$ back from these criminals …. Not covered ????…. Hello, sinkhole here!! Cant quite call it a PEAK …. But we are looking uphill!! Did you feel this earthquake? I was siting on the front porch and didn’t feel a thing!! Thank god I called the Ins company in the morning …. Ya just know those parasites woulda claimed “earthquake damage not covered”. Yesterday had the big digger here ripping up the palatial lawns, got the new line in and repacked the lawn and porch was filled with screening and then power tamped. They left by 2:30, spent until supper but managed to get the part of the porch they had dug up and the walkway repaired. So back to PEAK!!! Gonna get the estimate from the guy same time I get the bill on Monday, he knows the situation with the insurance co., so here’s hoping he makes it a juicy one!! Here’s a few pics of the window work and then the trench destruction. Chief Grey Cloud and Princess Pity Me …
18. Well showed up for my first ever Maintenance Day. Pulled into Don's place with my big, heavy trailer wondering what type of reception I would receive. First thing I noticed was a ton of Ventures parked everywhere and people standing everywhere! My girlfriend pointed out the place she wanted us to camp and hopped off to secure it leaving me to negotiate a turnaround! I drove down to the house expecting a turn around and ran right into a dead end with everyone looking. Great, just what I wanted a crowd to critique my turning capabilities with that heavy trailer! Fortunately several Venture riders jumped to my aide and with a lot of encouraging, but conflicting directions, and some pushing and pulling we got her turned around! I did not get a chance to get anyone's name and would have promptly forgot them anyhow but I do want to say a mighty THANK YOU!! The standard reverse that comes with these bikes just sucks and I would have been totally embarrassed without the aide. After camp set up we toured the bikes snapping pictures and got in line for the brake fluid change. Bobby, "Naked Rider" was kind enough to do the maintenance while letting me hold things, get in the way, and ask a lot of redundant questions! Not only was he tolerant but he also supplied me with some DOT4 since I had brought DOT3. Big Thanks, Bobby!! The I was ready for Ken, V7Goose, who was adjusting carb's. For those who have not meet Ken, you will find he is a very personable guy. This "guy" drives 1200 miles to this MD works tirelessly all through the day, puts up with ignorant people, asking all kind of questions, such as myself, and then is rewarded with a 1200 mile trip home! He sync my carbs adjusted my pilot screws, and taught me a little more about my bike. Freebird and I tried to quiz him about getting my AIS system off but he just wasn't biting!! By the way for all of us out there that owe Ken for working on our bikes he does like cigars! I plan on having some for him next MD! Besides the maintenance I finally got to meet some of the people from this website such as Earl "Skydoc". Earl has supplied a lot of us with an upgrade kit for our clutches and he had my correct size spring there. What a great guy he is. Learned a lot about brakes and clutches while talking with him. Then there was "Gunboat" or Don! After reading Don's comments about being a darksider I took the plunge and have not looked back. Enjoyed talking with him immensely! Like him I am fortunate enough to have a daughter, now 18, who still loves to go riding with me! Now that is a blessing!! During our conversation I told Don that a center stand for my bike was on my wish list. He is giving me his! Will not take payment for it just wants me to donate to this site! That is why I am a member here, people with hearts like Don's. Speaking of Don, there is the other Don, "Freebird" our host,! What a classy guy, very humble, feels honored to support us with this fantastic website! I so enjoyed listening to him and Rick Butler tell stories before we left the next day. Big, big Thanks to him and his wife for this shindig!!! I did not get to meet all! There was Carbon One who I had purchased some braces from. I was told he was there but did not catch up to him. (to busy running my mouth!) Did not see "Wanderer" either! I also am sure I have not thanked everyone who helped me out or took the time to say hi. What a great bunch!! For those who have not made the pilgrimage I highly recommend this annual MD. You will learn so much and meet the very best!!
19. OK, so I just got the bike and I'm sure this has been covered in this forum somewhere, but........... was in a parking lot the other day, sitting on the RSV, pushing it out of a space, turning the bike a little, when............. the ground under me sloped off a little. Long story short, it went down........... I stepped off, a little shook, faced the bike (the wrong way I know) and tried to lift it. No FRICKEN WAY was it going to move. A guy ran over and together we lifted it. So I rode away embarrassed. Today, I get my neighbor to come over and we gently lay it down on the kickstand side onto a piece of cardboard. So I back up to it, grab the lower half of the handlebar and the seat and push with my legs. Now, I'm not a little guy, as a matter of fact I'm stronger than the average. I could not budge the thing!!! He had to help me get it back on the kick stand. THIS IS SCARRY! How do you lift it? Do I need to carry a bottle jack? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20. My time as a Venture owner, that is. Today the 99 that I had listed in the classifieds was picked up by its new owner, a real nice guy named Doug from the Joliet, IL area. I was sad to see her go, but I know that Doug will give her a good home. Doug said that he has been here on the site a couple times checking things out, and was very impressed. I encouraged him to join, I think he'd fit right in. He seemed to be the kind of guy I'd enjoy riding with. BTW, his 10 year old daughter was just as excited as he was. She's a cutie and said she can't wait to go riding with Dad. Doug, if you're lurking let us know. Joe

Whats up with Lowell? Is he making the deadline of being out. Anybody helping the guy out? Bubber
22. Does anyone have a part no. for a 'substitute' thermostat to fit an '88 Venture. I have read past posts on a NAPA #156 substitute but went to my local NAPA store today and they can't come up with any number like that...the guy tried different number/letter/code combinations but couldn't get anything to come up. Is the OE thermostat 180 degree? And is /was the NAPA 156 the same temp. rating? Appreciate any input anyone has on this. Thanks!
23. Don't forget our aggreement we made trogether But Im going to A NICE guy , INSTEAD OF 4 ,I ONLY WANT 2 AND I need to bring both of them across the border
24. If you're ever in the Okanagan area of BC and want to try something really cool, check this out... http://okracingexperience.com/ A little expensive for a guy like me but if I had the extra bucks, I'd not hesitate.
25. Just got back from the Ride for Dad in Victoria. Saw a few Ventures there. Had about 1000 bikes. Impressive parade. The cops had all the streets blocked off so we could keep together. They estimate $100,000.00 raised for prostate cancer research. Going on the Ride for Life next month. I think I was a little insulted on the way there and on the way back. I went over the Malahat from Crofton. It climbs from sea level to 1200 feet fairly quickly. I got challenged by a guy in a Prius! Realy! Not a chance fella. Then on the way back I got challenged by a guy on a harley. I think he was discouraged when I pulled up beside him when he was at full speed and shifted gears.
