  1. You're right, 9500 is Redline on the Vmax and the VMAX. But the Venture's have different/'weaker' Valve Springs. That's why they're recommmended to a earlier Redline. I never go to Redline on my Max and never really watch for out the early Redline on my Venture. This Engine will take this without feeling abused. If the Day would come somewhere in the Future, i'd just put my spare Vmax Engine in the Venture. Only real Concern is when you go above 10500, then the upper Eye on the Con Rods will go out of shape and start ticking on the Piston Bolt. But hey, what's up with you Bill ? Being nice and not snarling, lately ? Had some Chalk for Dinner today ?
  2. There's no stupid Question. Here's a Link to the Starmotorcycles Service, you can look into the User Manual http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/myyamaha/prompt/L3N0YXIvc2VydmljZS92aWV3bWFudWFscy9zdGFyX21hbnVhbHMuYXNweA==/Owners%20Manual/starthere.aspx
  3. I remember a Discussion with GeorgeS about Fuses and rewiring the whole Fuse Panel. I think he mentioned that the Vacuum Sensor is wired and fused with another Circuit than the IGN Fuse Circuit. And if that Circuit would let the Fuse go, you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere because of that. As i type, i remember also a Member, maybe this was Greg_in_London couldn't get his Project Bike started without a Sensor hooked to the Harness. I wasn't a Problem if the Sensor worked on Vacuum or not, it only had to be there.
  4. On the early Ventures do not fill up to the bottom of the Filler Hole. You should use the Dipstick. The later (MKII) have a different final Drive than the early. There is a Thread here with a Pic and Measurement of the Dipstick. I think if you can get on from a XS1100, these are the same.
  5. I just checked the Parts Catalog. That Cup is a MKI Thing. Since '86 the Rod and the Cup is in one Piece.
  6. I back you up. It doesn't make Sense at all. Dino Oil for a 1Gen, also keeps the Clutch in Shape and not slipping.
  7. :rotf::rotf:
  8. That mushroom shaped Part is the short Push Rod which goes against the Ball.
  9. Yes, it's an standard open Bearing, must be because it's lubed through the Motoroil.
  10. Don't forget to have a new Clutch Cover Gasket at Hands. You probably won't need it when you have one, but you will definately need it badly when you haven't got one prior to dismount the Cover.
  11. It's very easy to get the Bearing out. A mechanical Press or an old Drill Press with a Ring underneath will press it out and the new Bearing in at no Time. Of Course you could use the old Hammer and Drift Method, but i refrain from such Actions because the Bearing will get hurt often.
  12. I said this before, but if someone interested may thake a Look at old News from 2007, when Yamaha Patent Drawings surfaced ... http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-news/2008-yamaha-v-max-patents-revealed-ar40715.html
  13. I'm willing to bet 10 Bucks, if you place the Bike on the Side Stand with max Pressure in both front and rear Suspension, undo the Clutch Cover, open the six Bolts and take the Clutch pressure Plate off, push the the old Bearing out, press new Bearing in and mount everything back in Place, the Noise will stop. It's a 1 to 1.5 Hours Job, most Time is wasted during scratch the old Gasket off the Cover Surface. The Bearing you will need is a 6003. If you buy a good industrial Brand, Timken, SKF, FAG you will think about replacing it again in 2016 or later.
  14. If it would be a Pin Problem, most likely there wouldn't be any upper Gear shiftable. I'd say "lost second Gear" sounds more as a Case of bent Shift Fork or Shift Drum worn out. Or the Dogs need an undercut. If so, not an easy fix, the Motor has to come out and splitted.
  15. George, you may talk to Rick Butler, he sure wil have an Answer or a Solution for you.
  16. I'd suggest to clean the Browser Cache. The Flaf File(VA.gif) sure could be used by another Graphik and the Browser takes this Pic out of the Cache instead of loading from the Site. Thus the wrong Picture there.
  17. :big-grin-emoticon: Or, you need to drill a tiny Hole somewhere to let the Pressure out
  18. Aprilia RSV Mille You scored 11 moxie, 4 zeal, and 7 pomp! http://is0.okcupid.com/users/704/146/705147469668491512/mt1108813014.jpg___1_500_1_500_cb94de6a_.png You're a fast and competent rider, but maybe not quite as good as you think you are. You've spent some big bucks on a sexy Aprilia, now go buy a beat-up Kawasaki EX500 as a track bike and get in some practice before you kill yourself. Seriously. The Mille's power scares the crap out of you at times, and you mostly bought it because you wanted something more unusual than a Ducati. Its not comfortable, you're not having fun, and you're riding less than you did on your old bike. If you're not willing to put in some serious practice time, you should really get something a little less purposefully lethal. (Is it just me, or is the bike way more attractive than the bimbo in the picture below? --iocaine) In Fact, like the Mille, but i never would sink that much Money in a V2 Bike. now, the new V4 may be different when talking about a Sportsbike.
  19. That's hard to tell. The Rotor could be toast because of the dragging Brake.
  20. I've never seen such a Washer on the Generator Cover on a Vmax or a MKII.
  21. Hey Bill, does your V-Star or your Wing have two out of five Gears in Overdrive ?? :cool17:
  22. Nohhhhhhh ... but .... Instead, you get an Invitation to the Roof Repair Party .... :rotfl:
  23. This Thread is leaving almost breathless, but not speechless. Thank God, i'm not allowed to give a Comment on the Issue here.:doh: :Avatars_Gee_George::Avatars_Gee_George:
  24. And just to make sure, you will need two Gaskets for the Valve Covers. And i for one, i would replace all the 16 Rubbers off the Bolts off the Valve Covers. At least the inside 8 Rubbers. Getting to the Covers is a major Part of the Job, i sure wouldn't want to go there twice, just because of being too cheap on the wrong Place.
