Rick, THAT exactly is Question which we all shouldn't ask, at least here, 'offically' so to say ... That's the prime Time Head Game !!
-
Froggie, i feel for you. But just don't tell Mamamo that you're going out to get a Hoe.. .. That may get a little spicey ...
-
I know the Head is the Bathroom, at least in the US Navy, but what a silly Picture this is, a Snake, hitted with a Ho by the Secretary, loosing the Head just in Front of the Head in which Froggie is waiting to clear the Head ??:crackup:

No Sir, i'm not brainwashing you or talking you into buying a Bike that you fear. Sure not. I was just offering an Option. The world's most powerful stock Bike, but it seems to be more than your Mind can handle. I tell you what, i even fear my Max every Day i ride once or twice, but hey, that's what's keeping me alive. RESPECT, that's what i'm talking about. -
Don removed the Option some time ago.

I've heard the Canadian Portion of the VMAX Batch isn't sold out yet. This would make perfect Sense to me, you could smoke them all. Might need to negotiate the Price a bit, but that shouldn't be much of a Task. -

'86 royale idle circuit???
Squeeze replied to hipshot's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Idle Circuit is always active. That's because the individual Circuits stack up depending on Load/Throttle Position. Of Course the Idle has more or less Influence on the overall Mixture. The next Circuit steps in at 1200-1300 RpM. That's the Pilot Jet inside the Carb Bowl. If you haven't done it yet, you could try to clean the Pilot Air Jet #1 in the Carb Throat. Ondo the Lid of the Airbox, take the Filter out out look down the Airhorn to the Carb Throat. There are several Holes to be seen, one is big and oval, on is just plain a Hole and in one Hole you can see the Slot for a Screwdriver, that's PAJ#1. Spray Carb cleaner into the Jet, let it sit for some Time and blow it out with the Airgun. Be careful not to point into the oval Hole, this will lift the Slider and probably tear the Diaphragm apart when you use too much Pressure there. Prepare for Fuel spitting out of other Holes, so be careful and lay your Smoke or Pipe aside before blowing the Jets. If that doesn't help either, you should prepare yourself for a full Carb Service. -

Or, make the Vmax final Drive Conversion and get rid of those two Overdrive Gears. -
Well, i finally found a US Vendor for the Lock-Up Clutch System ... Our Friends at Wild Bros sell them in US http://www.wildbros.com/Clutches.html

Fuel Tank is under the Seat, the Filler Neck is in the Fake Tank Cover with the Filler underneath.

1st GEN. SPEED BLEADERS

On a MKII, there's one beneath the Handlebars, on a MKI it isn't. -
Dan, i'm sorry, but no english Translation available at the Moment. I placed that Link only to take a Look at the Pics. The Clutch works by centrifugal Force. Once you let the Lever go and the Clutch starts to bite, the Weights inside the inner Hub start to move to the outside. By doing so, they apply Force to a ramp-shaped Ring and pull the Steel and Friction Plates Package more and more together. the more RpM, the more Force on the Mechanism. At 2500 Rpm, the Force exceeds any Force of the stock Diaphragm Spring or the six coil Springs and locking more and more during the Rpm Range. The Spring Force is only to keep the Packet together and maintain a good starting Point. Now, when you apply Pressure to the Lever, even under WOT, the Ramp styled Levers force the Clutch to open, no matter what RpM. Because the Mechanism is not that sensitive for the overall Thickness of the Plates Package, you can wear the Discs down until virtually all Friction Material is gone. I get the Conversion Kit over my Vmax Forum for 360 Euro. This converts to 485 USD at current Exchange Rate. The Kit comes with a new, but modified inner Clutch Hub, a new but modified Pressure Plate with new Bearing and all the new Parts for the Lock Up Mechanism seen on the Pics of the EBay Auction. That goes for natural Aluminum Parts. If you would want polished or black anodized/polished this would cost 15 Euros extra. That might be a good Idea if you would want a windowed Clutch Cover, as shown in the EBay Pic. When we modify new Parts delivered from US, this might be 100 Dollars minus Freight Costs cheaper, because the European Parts Prices are a rip off, compared to US Prices.

Here's a very good Review of a Test Ride. I like it very much, because the Writer decribes very good what's the Fascination of a Vmax is about ... http://www.mcnews.com.au/Testing/Yamaha/2009_V-Max/Review_Page1.htm When they put that Motor in a Venture, whow .... i really hope they make it happen.

Sticking caliper
Squeeze replied to okiefirefighter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jack, i know there are Brackets on the Market for the early Vmax to make them fit the later(100mm) Bolt Pattern/Distance. The early Vmax used the same (267mm) Rotor Diameter as the MKI uses. So, i think this Brackets would fit a MKI too. But i don't know a existing (european) Vendor for such Brackets. The only Guy i know who has such Brackets is currently updating his entire front Fork to the later Vmax Fork. I could ask him if he could send me those Brackets after his Job is done. But he's from the Netherlands and this may take a while. I could open a Search on our local Vmax Board and probably there would come something up. Maybe the typical US Vmax-Vendors have such Brackets in the Closet. John Furbur at Blue Ridge Mountain Motorsports, UFO Cycles, perhaps John Gayney from PCW Racing ? -

I searched for them with R1 and Caliper as the Search Term. But the Result was an awful big List. Thanks that i remembered the Threads and it was a quick Answer. There are some more about the Issue, we been talking about that Conversion since two Years or so. Jimbob5 has done it, Skydoc_17 and some more i just don't remember now. If you look in my History you will find a Lot of Comments on the R1 Caliper Conversion. I'm afraid to say, but i believe it was me, who talked Skydoc into the Conversion he documented. But what he says is true, it doesn't make Sense to sink a Lot of Money and Working Hours into the old Calipers, the R1 will ever be the technically better Solution. BUT .... These Caliper will only fit Bolt on the MKII !! The MKI has a different Mounting Bolt Distance(only 83mm) and they won't fit without a Bracket or MKII lower Fork Legs and Rotors. -
The silver ones are on the MT-01(not sold in US) and on some TDM 900 Models, probably also on the last R6 Models with standard mounted Calipers. I've heard about two Guys reporting Lock Up with the golden Calipers, but i don't think that was a Problem with the Pistons or whatever Part related. I think they overfilled the Reservoir and thereby cause the Caliper to lock up when the Fluid heated up under braking. If there would be a Problem with a specific Piston Material, we all would have heard about it, because these Calipers are on a Lot, and i mean a LOT of Models out there. I'd prefer the Colour which is cheaper and fit better to the Look of my Bike.

The golden Calipers have Aluminium Piston, the blue have Steel Pistons. Not sure about the silver Caps.

Oh, sorry .... i'd thought that VTX is a V-Star 1300 or something ....

Dan, i'm sorry, but i don't know where you Guys in US could get that Clutch Conversion done. I didn't find a Vendor in US when i looked for it a half Year ago. We do it on our own, one of our Board Members has bitten the Bullit and has had a CNC Programmer written the Program to make the Parts in Series. There are two new Parts and the inner Basket and the stock Pressure Plate of a Diaphragm Style Clutch has to be modified. Here is Ebay Auction for a Set. http://cgi.ebay.de/Rennsport-Kupplung-Look-Up-System-fuer-Yamaha-V-max-Neu_W0QQitemZ140215036060QQihZ004QQcategoryZ101887QQcmdZViewItem We get them somewhat cheaper over our german Vmax Board. When you're interested, i could get a Set for you and arrange shipping. But i don't know if this would fit your VTX1300. If your Clutch in Question is the same as a MKII or Vmax Clutch, the Parts fit Bolt on.

I wouldn't rate EBC over Stock Plates or vice versa. I think EBC are fine, so are the Stock Plates. I've done quite a few Clutches, maybe 10 or 12, mostly on Vmax, but also on MKII Ventures. Barnett are nor cheap and they can be an Solution in Conjunction with the Barnett Clutch Pressure Plate Kit on a tuned (Vmax)Engine or if you up to do a Lot of Burnouts with your Venture. But on a big bore Vmax Motor even a Barnett-Kit isn't an Option in the long Term, because they will be gone before you know it. My surrounding Vmax Crowd is converting to Lock-Up Clutches recently. We make them cheap enough now to get a reasonable Price (little over twice of a complete Stock renewal) and you can use the cheapest Plates you can get and wear them down to to the Aluminum. I recently converted my Max to a Lock-Up and found the Lever Force needed to operate the Lever lower then before. Not a surprise though, this comes out of the System, but i was delighted. The Grip of the Clutch is very good, well, it should, because Lock up means LOCK it up.

Rick, i'm sorry to intervene here, but your Case makes Sense to me. Your 1Gen seems to have a hard Time finding a new Home, that Cowasaki puts shocking Waves through your Body.... Best would be, you keep your 1Gen Rocket and start saving Money for the all new and even faster 2010 Venture ??

Better do it NOW !! When you let the Friction Plates soak the wrong, friction modyfied Oil, you're bound to replace them next Week.
