  1. Had the same leak at the 6 o'clock area of the stator cover and fought it for over a year... had the dang thing apart at least 10 times... there was a thread about it here somewhere... Anyway... tried everything including new factory gaskets... thicker cut gaskets... double gaskets.... sealers of all types... etc. Zyglo'd the case and cover for cracks... flatness checked same... all good and still leaked. Replaced shifter seal and anything else in the area that might have contributed... still leaked. Happened upon Anaerobics 2-part sealer at NAPA... really expensive... but by this time was desperate... so on the sealer went with a fresh factory gasket. Have put on about 20k miles in the last year and not so much as a glimmer of oil since... woohoo! Good luck... I know how frustrating it can be... almost makes you think a HD spirit took her over!
  2. check it out.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489
  3. Ditto on Condor's reply... all going well until went for a little ride with the honey... stopped for gas and she wouldn't crank back up. Got her started on a downhill patch and ran her hard all the way home... the bike, not the honey... and found a bad battery. This was the second bad battery from Wallyworld in less than 6 months... needless to say I don't waste good money on cheap batteries anymore. Installed an Interstate battery two years ago and still going strong. Will say that if you haven't done it yet... it pays to take apart, clean, and give a squirt of dielectric grease into EVERY connection on these bikes.... they will do all kinds of crazy electrical related things due to the minutest amount of corrosion.
  4. Have been running 40-45 psi in my Elite III's... 14,000 miles on the rear with at least another 5 or 6K left on it. Front has 7k and looks brand new. Mostly 1 & 2 up highway miles... some pulling a trailer. Will never buy another tire other than the E3's... hope they don't stop making them!
  5. Check this one out... $8.00 right now on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-1991-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-NICE-SEAT-NO-RES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem33599fceb3QQitemZ220546977459QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_698wt_909
  6. Unless you have a lot of extra money lying around that you are dead set to spend on an electric suit, you might be better off taking a different tact to stay warm. Layering gives you almost infinite flexibility... helpful if you are going to ride through different landscapes and temp ranges. I did 3600+ miles this past Oct/Nov from MS up through IL, MI, NY, VT, NH, ME, PA, WV, and back home... averaged about 500 miles a day... most of which was in the low 30's temp-wise... with two whole days of rain. Only thing that got cold on the whole trip was my feet when rain found its way under my rain suit and got my socks wet. Would recommend layering with a good rain suit over the top... its all about keeping the wind from cutting through. The 4 things that made the biggest difference on my trip were; silk long johns (hunting catalog), wool/synthetic blend socks (wally world), snow mobile mittens (Kombi), and a rubberized rain suit.
  7. Thanks ddoggma... will get in touch if timing works out... would love to ride a ways with someone. Considering doing an Iron Butt from Reading, PA to Memphis, TN on Saturday the 24th... anybody know of a member that would be willing to be a witness to the end of the ride on Saturday?
  8. Planning a bit of a fall ride... 3,472+/- miles in 7 riding days... Oct 17: Vicksburg, MS - St. Louis ( Oct 18: St. Louis - Plymouth, IN Oct 19 Plymouth - Corning, NY Oct 20 Corning, NY - Dover, NH Oct 21 Dover - Reading, PA via ME, RI, MA, CT, NY, NJ, DE Oct 24 Reading - Lexington, KY Oct 25 Lexington, KY - Vicksburg, MS 3,472 miles in 7 riding days...
  9. Bob... need front calipers and master cylinder for mk2 if you still have them... send me a PM if available.... thanks!
  10. Have a good used windshield off my 89VR available... if interested send me a PM...
  11. 70's something Suzuki 125 dirt bike... traded a radio control airplane for it... subsequently terrorized most of the livestock on the farm... and probably my mom on at least a few occasions.
  12. Almost a year later I finally have the stator cover oil leak fixed... and I suspect you all out there will think I have completely lost it... assuming I ever had it to begin with... you'll never guess what fixed it! As has been posted, in part, in this thread I had the side cover off... count 'em... TEN times... trying to get it to stop seeping at the 6 0'clock position. Thicker gaskets, with and without sealant, dye penetrant checks of the case and cover, stock gaskets with and without sealant, a half dozen different types of gasket sealer... all to no avail. And NO it was not the harness boots, or the shift shaft seal... or any thing like that... it was the stator! I know what you're thinking... this guy's a loon... and that's what I would think if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. I installed an RM High Output Stator as a preventative measure prior to a 3K mile ride and within 20 miles of riding had oil weeping from the cover. That same stator failed last month with 3 coils that were crispy critters. With the replacement stator installed I find that it performs completely differently than the first RMS did... much more stable and higher voltage maintained at idle with all running and brake lights on. Secondly, I thought it curious that the engine oil turned black almost immediately after an oil change with the first RMS... with the new one it slowly darkens over time... Thirdly, the engine temp stays at or just above mid-point now... with the failed stator it would run in the upper third of the gauge all the time... even if the OAT was below 70 degrees. Lastly... since I had resigned myself to having that slow oil leak for the rest of my life no matter what I did (see above), I installed the cover after this last stator change with a stock gasket... and voila!, no leak! Here's my theory... the first RMStator was bad from day one and getting hot enough to cook off the oil and pressurize the stator cover, forcing the oil out past the gasket. The low idle voltage, the oil leak, the high operating temps, and toasted oil all went away after the stator change... almost like magic. So that's my story and I am sticking to it... unless someone else has a better idea... But, I have to say that I can't recall reading a wackier theory on this site... By the way... I have a half a pack of light days ultra thin maxi pads that I won't be needing to keep that oil leak from splattering up my saddle bag... they're the ones with no wings... they fit better between the case and the clutch line... I think I'll have a little ceremony to retire their memory... they are a constant reminder of a dark time...
  13. What's the asking price... and any idea how much shipping would be?
  14. Props

    Mazdas?

Have driven Mazda's... cars, trucks, and mini vans for more than 20 years. They are top notch in quality... and fun to drive!
  15. Oh yeah... if you still need someone to coordinate the deal, let me know.
