  1. Rick, the darksiders have had an area in this forum for a couple of years now. There is already a General tech talk area, where anyone can post a new thread. There isn't another tech area that I know of, that is not READ ONLY. That im guessing was done on purpose so as to preserve the integrity of the tech sections and not allow them to get cluttered up. Besides, this thread is from 2008???
  2. Let us know what the prices are. That's a pretty cool idea and I personally rather have something like that, than a trike or sidecar.
  3. Jake Wilson for me... Like someone previously said, when i find a place with low prices, fast and free shipping and no hassels I tend to stick with them... Oh... and My Dulop E3's were only 3 mos old...
  4. mine was in the 6 oclock position and i had to pop the round rubber grommet out and use a bent coat hanger to raise the splined ujoint. But hey,,, whatever works... grease was good on my Rsv as well, at 9000 mi. Wish i could say the same for my 650 vstar. It was rusty (no grease at all) and the splines on the final drive are g o n e! now i'm shopping for a 650 vstar final drive but am not willing to pay almost $700 for a new one. Ebay is getting worse with a lot of vendors starting their bid at $499 for used ones. Oh almost forgot....the 650 only has 24,000 miles on it............
  5. If your at Dons and you see YammerDan please tell him not to take rt 33 home... I did yesterday, and it took 1 1/2 hrs longer due to construction around columbus and all along rt 33. Thanks Joe
  6. Many a tractor trailer has jacknifed due to insufficient/non existing trailer brakes. The brakes on a trailer will snap everything straight if you have them set right. Read something about motorcycle trialers with electric brakes a while back. If I were towing a motorcycle trailer, brakes would not be optional... Oh..... The most important piece of advice I could give about riding/driving in the rain is DO NOT ENGAGE YOU CRUISE CONTROL! just like in a car they will accelerate you at the worst possible time and possibly wreck you.
  7. Microfiber towels in your front pockets. Pledge both sides of your shield. The thing that is the most frustrating to me while riding in the rain is the fog/mist that develops on the inside fof your windshield. Wipe it off with the microfiber towels... forget the face shield or shades if you can, as they wiill mist up and you will be looking through many more mist covered surfaces... just my two cents
  8. I'm just shy of 6' and love my Yamaha 650 V-star midnight custom... Some have commented here about bad steering but my 2005 feels like a bicycle compared to the RSV. It's the perfect learning bike. Top speed is about 80-85 . it looks Great and is not a crotch rocket. The blinding speed of a crotch rocket will get even an experienced rider into trouble... The only negative thing(s) i can say about the bike is I had to replace a stator at 22,000 mi. and the rear splines on the final drive"hub" striped out(my fault) lack of lubrication. That was a $600 mistake. ouch ... The stock seat and pillion sucks so I bought Mustang replacements($650) That being said, it's a 300 mi. bike. it's a cruiser not a tourer. Ones with a couple years can be bought cheap... If he were to drive/learn on for a year or so, then he could decide what to buy next. Perhaps a heavier 1100 or 1300 vstar? 650's sell for around $7k new
  9. Just saw this... Penny and I will be praying for her. Penny will get her added to the prayer chain at church... whats her first name?
  10. It wasn't the passing that bugged me, it was the violent maneauvers the was making 15' off of my rear bumper. like he was weaving thru MRC cones??? The bar thing didn't really bother me either as we need organ doners:witch_brew:
  11. BrakePad. "What you were building something and you didn't call me to come help? " Was just allowing one of my renters to work off some back rent. Bought a farm along the Ohio river for Penny and I to retire to, one day before our Key West Trip... been working my a$$ off ever since. Here's a tip............ DO NOT MIX CORREGATED GALVANIZED ROOFING AND CORREGATED ALUMINUM ROOFING......... We just got done tearing 25% of the roof off to get rid of the aluminum as it was oxidizing in spots the size of soft balls. What a PIA! Using roofing screws...
  12. Manually check all j-traps. Make sure all are full of water. look for a malfunctioning or missing plumbing vent (should only let air in) check rubber flap used under most sinks to eliminate gurgling sounds (if not there...it could be pulling water out of your j-trap) unsupported/incorrectly supported drain pipe. If it's not traveling down hill at a slight grade and the water is backing up in it, the gas pressure will take the path of least resistance (toilet, sink, shower, tub, washing machine). Especially if the backup of water is effectively cutting off the path to the roof vent Main vent stack... bird nests other obstructions... leave water on and get up on roof and use a small led flashlight to manually see water flow...
  13. Yup!.............. You must be an ESPER!
  14. Comming home from the farm, after a hard day of putting a new roof on a barn (with all the harnesses and ladders that entails) my hired hand and I encountered a rather erratic pair of bikers. The lead biker must have thought that weaving 15 feet off of my rear bumper at 55 MPH was going to impress me. Personally... The first thought I had, was to hit the brakes to get him off of my six... I didn't, as I ride bikes myself. They both passed on solid double lines and subesequently drove past them about 5 miles down the road, as they had pulled into a Bar...????????? Sorry for the rant... some of the "motorcycle accidents we read about" , are self imposed.....
  15. Tip: When working on carbs, I always turn the carb(s) upside down and blow a little air thru the fuel line with my mouth. The float(s) will put enough pressure on the needle valve(s) so that you cant blow air through them... then, rotate carb(s) till in the upright position and the air should freely go through That way you don't have to wait till everythings re-assembled to find out about a stuck float.
  16. Prayers sent from Penny and I.
  17. At $3000 that is some pretty expensive boots? Only in America...LOL If that made you think, Check this out: Now if only someone would get the gov to allow those +70mpg cars (that are made in america), to be sold America... VW pasat and ford also has one(currently sold in mexico) VW Passat 78.5 MPG in the Uk http://video.staged.com/localshops/vw_passat_785_mpg_in_the_uk
  18. Agreed... If it was a good battery, It should keep the bike running,,, Have interstate battery or a competent place check your battery... you can get a dud right out of the box... One other thing is, don't use a battery charger to charge the new battery. The guys at Interstate battery told me to use my battery tender as it would trickle charge it and would make it as strong as it was going to get. They said the slower you charrge it the better. I'm just wondering now, but, do you think he charged it on 10 amps for an hour or so?
  19. Hopefully they don't seperate the shooter from the rest of the prison population."wishfull thinking"... Always a sad time when someone dies fighting for what they believe. R.I.P. Mike
  20. As far as raising the passenger, the higher you get weight on a motorclycle the harder it will be to control, plus, as others have mentioned the head bufffeting). Buy/make a luggage rack and reciever and put her luggage there, at the lowest point on the bike. You won't even know it's back there...LOL Don't like the idea of anyone sleeping on a bike because of saftey concerns. Perhaps she could fly out/back and ride with you while your there. That way she wouldn't get bored. My wife on the other hand likes it here at home and doesn't like to travel at all...
  21. Plastic vapor barrier a must if you use drywall. Double/triple reinforce a truss or install I-beam for pulling engines before you drywall. 10' high garage doors, might even want to got 12' H if your considering riding out on the horses. As you didn't specify how high the ceiling would be you may want to install some ceiling fans for circulation. Floor drains, water to shop and automated horse waterer, sewer, elec. recpt(s). every 10' plus one in ceiling for retractable trouble light. Also install air recpticles (quick disconnect in middle of sides and middle of the end of shop)before you drywall. Definately need a seperate area for an air compressor ( i wheel mine out behind the front door so I don't have to listen to it) same with a vacum system for wood working tools. again you will have to plumb the walls before hand. Noticed your from WI... Have you given any thought on how your gonna heat the place? I have a wood burning stove in the farm garage (30x24) and a natural gas furnace out in the park garage (80x50).
  22. Deer move around all hours of the day. However, they do come down from the mountains to feed and drink from the streams around dusk and then head back around sunrise., being nocternal and all... As far as the deer whistles are concerned ... everyone has an opinion... Mine is, the manual ones don't work at all unless your going over 30 mph and the electronic ones work at all speeds. The only thing they do is get the deers attention. Which is good enough for me. They "do not prevent the deer from jumping out in front of you at the last second" and neither will a Horn, hollering, loud pipes or ju ju beans. As someone said before they are UNPREDICTABLE! In fact a friend of mine told me a car was in front of him as deer was crossing the road in Pa and started honking his horn as he was impatient. well long story short he stampeded the deer (about 20?) and some of them clamored over his hood and roof to get away... My friend said he never laughed so hard in his life...LOL Rick lyons from skuylhaven, Pa. Mine happened so quick i didnt have much time to react. I hit the brakes and then left up on them right before the hit so as the forks could absorb some of the impact. So in hindsight I did everything humanly possible (was wearing a full face and protective Joe rocket mesh jacket) and still ended up with two broken ribs. Went out an bought two electronic whistles for my both my wifes and my bike. They work as described and every time we approach deer they are raising their heads to see whats making that high pitched noise... that being said, THEY ARE STILL UNPREDICTABLE SO SLOW DOWN...
  23. Just about any bike can be lowered. I have a 29" inseam and loved riding my RM 250 although it did provide challanges kick starting it... With a heavier bike though, when they start going over, it may not be possible to control it. So, it would be prudent to lower it and make the bike fit the individual. In my case, I raised the forks 1 inch in the triple clamps. Man, what a difference that made!
  24. I lost my dad as well a few years back and Penny lost her mom to cancer. Your right when you say its a horrible diesease. Penny and I will pray for your family to see you through these trying times...
  25. Looks good Mike!
