1. The more I ride it the more I like it. Mike
2. The RSV is a pretty solid bike. I don't know that they have any real weak spots. That said there are a couple of things to look for. Some have had excessive noise issues, whine, from the gear train. Some have had issues with the audio system. make sure this is working. Some 2007 models had coolant seepage due to loose head bolts. Should be cured by now but look for signs anyway. Then just watch for all the normal stuff on a used bike. Welcome to the forum. The Venture is a great bike and you will enjoy it. Mike
3. It would seem to me motorcycle shops should use one of these to isolate where the noise is coming from. http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/463716139/Auto_Tools_Combination_Electronic_Stethoscope_Kit.html Mike
4. Yes. Don't fall asleep in a tree. Mike
5. Yea
6. Perhaps the boy hung his bike on a branch. Mike

NO if you just use an ice pick you will not generate any metel debris. The filler neck is soft enough for this to be easy. See the photo above. Mike

EMPTY

Use a punch and make several holes around the fillerneck. Just remember once done you can fill your tank up to the brim. If you do so and park in the hot sun you will loose some fuel out the vent. Mike
9. Harley and Honda chose to make incremental improvements to their bikes keeping them current. Yamaha chose not to. I guess they are just having a hard time telling the difference between a motorcycle and a trumpet. Mike
10. Plenty of bike shops in Florida. Find a new one. Mike
11. I must say I really like the lines of the new Venture. There's just something nostalgic about it. I can see why they kept it so tightly under wraps. I mean someone getting a sneak preview could steal the design and sell it to a competitor for quite a lot of money. Beautiful bike loaded with all the features one could possibly want. Talk about vision. Mike
12. Congrats Bubber Mike
13. "Pushing coolant back into the small tank where it would overflow" takes pressure. Pressure can come from two places. Air in the cooling system getting hot and expanding. Combustion pressure getting past a head gasket. Make sure the cooling fan is working. Make sure the thermostat is installed correctly and opening. Make sure the cooling system is completely filled and all air bled out. If the symptom persists use a leak down tester to check for bubbles in the cooling system. A leak down tester can be fabricated by adapting an air fitting to a compression tester hose. Then with the engine rotated so both valves are closed apply 100 + psi to the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Be careful as the air pressure will push the piston down and cause the engine to turn. Make sure you are in neutral and away from moving parts. Watch for tell air bubbles in the cooling system. Mike
14. There is often a difference between a battery tender and a maintainer. Usually a maintainer can be left connected to the battery. For a tender read the instructions that came with it. Mike
15. If the battery goes dead while the bike is sitting you have a parasitic draw. That can be tested with an amp meter in series with a battery cable. If you have a CD changer that is a likely culprit. The next time you are planning on letting the bike sit for more than a couple of days reach down and unplug the CD changer. If your battery holds up the mystery is solved. I wouldn't replace the CD changer. I would just unplug it for extended storage. If you have battery problems while the bike is running other things come into play. Stator or rectifier, loose or bad connections, to many accessories etc. can all contribute to a problem. As mentioned by others it would be time for a meter to help isolate the problem. Mike
16. I have been using the new Bridgestone Exedra MAX with no issues at all. They are a multi rubber compound have deep tread and come in the right sizes. They are quite a bit different than the old Brickstones. Might be worth looking into. Mike
17. Any of you guys ever post a note to Yamaha telling them how much you like the Venture or the V-4? Not a should do list. Just an I like the product note. Mike
18. Switch the radio controller to speaker. Mike
19. I still use my cassette deck. Mike
20. When I did this in the past I was able to lift the back of the lid slightly and use a long thin screwdriver to open the latch mechanism. Good Luck Mike
21. Woho. Picking up a big bike can be fun. Most important stop a few seconds and take a deep breath. Bow to the audience if there is one. Turn the key off. Make a plan. Then unlike a certain Honda video make sure the bike is in gear so it doesn't try to roll out from under you. Also if it is on it's right side put the kick stand down. These things are really hard after you get the bike picked up and you are holding the brake on a slight hill. Guess how I know this for sure. Use your imagination to visualize an old fat guy trying to bend over the seat of a big bike to reach the side stand on a hill out of gear while holding the brake. But with unscheduled practice I am getting much better at this procedure. Mike
22. Yes I never had a flat tire so flat tires don't exist. I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles. So if there was such a thing I would have experienced it. Mike
23. Harley bashing is a sport and I am an athlete. Mike
24. All naturally aspirated engines will loose about 3% per thousand feet of elevation. Sorry guys thats just physics. The Venture does not have a lot of reserve power so this can be noticeable. Especially in fifth gear. The RSTD is a bit lighter so it may not be as apparent. So depending on the altitude you are accustomed to riding at and the load you are carrying you may feel some difference. It should not however be enough to be a problem. Mike
25. All that just to save a few bucks on a cover? Mike :rotf:
