  1. Sad to hear this. Prayers and condolences sent. Mike
  2. Agreed TDC generally refers to the compression stroke. Not always but usually. Problem is all of the marks on the crank will line up at both positions, compression and exhaust. The piston will also be at top at both positions. So it is not always easy to tell if you are on compression or exhaust. The only visible difference will be the cam positions. So if you are doing a service which exposes the cams and they are not where you expected at TDC try turning the crank 360 degrees. The cams may come into alignment. This is just a suggestion and certainly will not solve all problems but it may help sometimes. Also you can sometimes find TDC by lining up the cam timing marks. Mike
  3. I feel your pain. I also have a 380 auto. It is a very good carry gun. Even if a little light on the power. I like it a lot. I have never cared much for the 9mm. I have no reason. It's just a personal dislike of some sort. Perhaps I should see someone about that. The 45 is great and one of my favorites. It packs a very substantial thump when needed too. For me the 50 is just to big. They are huge guns and the ammo expensive. I bow to those who shoot them. They are probably pretty good for fending off attacking polar bears though. The 40cal is magic. Some how it's knock down power exceeds it's ballistics. I don't know if it's mas to velocity ratio or what. It just packs a lot more thump than you'd expect. Then again I also have a 22cal. Mike
  4. This is a 4 stroke engine which means #1 cylinder will be at TDC twice. Turn the engine 360 degrees and see if things line up. Mike
  5. That was a very scary situation. I generally don't recommend pulling your gun until you are ready to use it. As that can sometimes escalate the encounter. In your case I am glad everything worked out ok. Hopefully the guy never comes back. Mike
  6. Prayers sent. Mike
  7. +1
  8. Yea just think of the money you could have saved if the world had ended. Question is . What would you be able to do with it? Or maybe it did end. It's just that the bills kept on coming. Mike
  9. Dang. Thanks for the offer Miles. Now that I am finaly moving around again. I think the wife and I are going to take in the casino on Christmas. Mike
  10. Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays to all. Mike
  11. Dang! This side is exactly like my old life. Same aches and pains. Everything. If I wasn't sure the world ended yesterday I wouldn't know it today. Say... I better check my bank accounts. This could be another Wall Street scam. Mike
  12. With the world coming to an end today I just wanted everyone to know what a pleasure it has been. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member on these forums. It is one of the things I think I will miss most in the next life. I can't help but wonder if there will be motorcycles to ride or if walking will be the norm. Any how, I hope to meet up with all of you on the other side. Mike
  13. True infra-red is radiant and heats objects not the air. So point it at something you want warmed up. Like you. That said some units will have a ceramic element inside that gets warm and so also provides some convection heat. Either system or combination has it's advantages. Radiant infra-red can lower heating bills by keeping you warmed up while the rest of the room stays a little cooler. Means you can lower the thermostat to save money. The true efficiency of this is a personal choice. Mike
  14. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I think I also have Venture fever and there is only one cure for that. Mike
  15. Well I finally got some good new from the docs. I have been laid up for 12 weeks since falling off a ladder and breaking my hip. I had a fractured hip, sprained ankle and bruised shin. And possible internal bleeding. They bolted the hip back together and told me to stay off it. No weight what so ever. Originally this was to be for four to six weeks. Then it appeared the bolts had backed out a little so no weight indefinitely. Today twelve weeks in the doctor said I can finally start to put some weight on my right side. Yahoo. I am wobbly but at least I can start relearning to walk. And hopefully I can be riding by summer. The other part is shortly after the fall I began to cough up blood. The bleeding stopped but the doctors were still worried. So I also underwent another upper GI today. The exam came back normal no visible internal damage. So I am quite excited about todays outcomes. Mike
  16. Good for you and good for Kings Tire Mike
  17. The Rivco mounts a little off center to the right. I did occasionally have the right peg drag a little. Due to small bumps or dips on the road during a leaning right turn. This worried me because the way the shoe is welded to the peg I was afraid it could hook something and anchor the bike. So I took a grinder and took the outer lip off of the shoe. Making the arm and shoe smooth on the outside. Now it could drag but it won't hook anything. In fact I have not felt it drag since making this minor mod. Mike
  18. It is good to hear the surgery went well. Now the fun begins. 53 degrees is good for the first session. Ultimate goal should be 0- flat and 120+ or more bent. A lot of people settle for 100-110. And some doctors tell you anything over 90 is good. Don't settle. Now is the time to start pushing, before the scar tissue settles in. I have seen some knees reach 135+ degrees. That is where you want to be if at all possible. Mike
  19. I have the Riveco on my 08. Works just fine. Mike
  20. I hope everything goes well for you. As others have said 'do the physical therapy'. Get a therapist who pushes you to the extreme. It will be worth it later. Remember it is all about range of motion. Happy Knee Bends Mike
  21. The lower gear ratio puts the engine a little further into it's power curve. So it accelerates faster, gains RPM faster and develops additional torque faster. I noticed a slight increase in fuel mileage on mine. Probably because the engine lugs less. Also I am able to comfortably ride in a higher gear. Fifth gear is now a very usable gear. As I have said before the only down side for me was the bike is so much more fun to ride I hit the rev limiter more frequently. No the Ventures are not all that anemic but they do not have a lot of 'reserve power' either. This mod just makes the power they do have more usable. It is also fairly ecomomical as far as motorcycle mods go. Mike
  22. +1 That is what the anti-rattle clips are for. Mike
  23. I did the V-Max gear change. The performance increase is more than 10% because the engine is further into its power curve. It accelerates faster and develops RPM and torque faster. The pleasant surprise was I actually had a slight increase in gas mileage. Probably due to the engine not lugging as much and fifth gear now becoming a usable gear. The only down side I found is the bike is so much more fun to ride I hit the rev limiter more often. Mike
  24. Best wishes for you. Get well soon. Mike
  25. Miles Thanks for the very kind offer. All is well, I am healing just fine now. The first few weeks I was stuck in bed was a pain. But I am up and around and causing as much trouble as possible. I have crutches and a walker and of course 'the wheel chair'. I am just not allowed to put any weight on my right leg, toe touch on the ground only. Ha like that's going to happen. I promised repeatedly to put just my left foot down at stops if they would clear me to ride my bike. But the Doctor would have none of it. So I am stuck in a cage if I want to get out. I installed cup holders on both the walker and wheel chair so I can take my coffee fix with me as I go puttering around the house. I still haven't quite figured out how to put one on the crutches but I am working on it. Mike
