1. Congrats on the bike and Welcome to your new home. Mike
2. Miles Glad it worked out for you. I agree it is the best mod for these bikes. As for the speedo change. It doesn't mater. What counts is that it works for you and you are happy with it. Hope to meet up with you for coffee or M&E as soon as I am walking again. Mike
3. Miles Wow. What a story and harrowing experience. Very well written. I am sure glad you lived through it and made it back ok. You did the right thing giving up your stuff to the robbers. Those guys are killers and would have thought little about putting you down. I hope you didn't have any information on the laptop that might compromise you. Mike
4. Brian I use solar lights along the drive in my back yard. They are great in summer but suffer during our short dreary winter days. If possible I recommend wired with a solar on-off switch. That said the Home Depot solar units are really easy to install. Just stick um in the ground where ever you want them. Just make sure they are not under a tree shadow. Mike
5. A few weeks ago we were sitting Starbucks having coffee bemoaning the bad weather when a guy rides up on a very old and worn Yamaha (think 70s or older). Gets off his bike and unstraps his walker. So we invited him over to our table for a cup. Turns out he is 96 years old and still rides his bike everywhere in all kinds of weather. He says the snow and ice are the worst for him as his reflexes have slowed over the last couple of years. He also does his own maintenance. But he says that is getting harder as well. You'd think because of his age but he says it is because parts are getting tougher to find. In my mind he is also a True Biker. Mike
6. So if your bike gets totaled by an unisured motorest you'r not covered? Mike
7. I can recall as a 12 year old having an engine that we placed on the front wheel of our bicycle. We started it by riding the bike. Once started the engine did a respectable job of providing power. Although it did require some pedal assistance on long uphills. As I remember it was quite a lot of fun. Mike
8. Like it. Mike
9. Are you refering to the air intake surge tanks? Mike
10. Welcome Glen You will find the Venture is one of the greatest touring bikes ever made. It is extremely reliable and very comfortable. Mike
11. Welcome Mike
12. It still takes thirty three teeth of the ring/pinion gear mesh for the ring gear to go around one time. In other words it takes thirty three pinion gear teeth to turn the ring gear one revolution. It doesn't matter if it is the V-max pinion (9) or the Venture pinion (10) it's 33 teeth (meshes) for one ring gear revolution. So the speedo counts ring gear teeth off of the pinion. Mike
13. Depends on what you are looking for. It comes up in periodic maintenance, lubrication, inspection etc. 3-2 3-50 2-24 8-1 8-3 Mike
14. Why the speedo is un affected. The speedo reads off of (counts) the ring gear teeth. The v-max rear end has the same number of teeth on the ring gear. Only the pinion is different. Since it is the ring gear that connects to the wheels the speedo reading will not be changed. Mike
15. That is correct. The speedo is unaffected. But you will notice the increase in performance. Mike

What company? Mike
17. Yes. Pick up the whole assembly ready to install. http://www.rmsportmax.com/rsrearendex.html Then review Freebird's article in the tech section. Makes this job very easy. Mike
18. Yamaha builds trumpets and pianos. The symbol on their bikes is three tuning forks for Pete's sake. Their philosophy is build it and as long as it sells keep on building it. Who ever heard of incremental upgrades on a trumpet. Honda on the other hand builds motorcycles and cars. They know the value of staying relevant. Hence their philosophy of continuing improvement to their products. It will be hard to get Yamaha to change a philosophy that has been successful for them. They will continue to build products that sell. When sales stop they will discontinue them and look around for something to replace it with. That method works pretty well for musical instruments which is their main business. Mike
19. Tires need the pressure listed on the sidewall. Problem is some tire dealers are still intimidated by the Ford - Firestone fiasco. So they have orders from management to only follow the pressure on the door jamb. You'd think tire dealers would know better. But they want to pass all of the liability off to the car manufactures. So you might take your car in for an oil change with 45 lbs pressure in the tires and get it back with 35 psi. Just something to keep an eye out for. Mike
20. Prayers sent. Good Luck. Mike
21. I have done it and it is the best performance mod you can make. Mike
22. Most Harley dealers provide this service. I just don't know if they will ship off brand bikes. Mike
23. Well now. Seattle has already proved they can stand up pretty well against SF. The Redskins are in the past. Atlanta being the #1 seed is an obstacle but Seattle matches up pretty good against them. I wouldn't mind seeing the Sea Hawks get some fresh meat in Green Bay. Mike
24. Owen You went through a tough time. I am glad you were able to hang in there and get through it. Mike
25. Miles Have a fun but safe journey. Hope to see you on your return. If anything comes up where you need some help CALL. Mike
