  1. Ditto, all, well put !!!! The " Condor " knows how to fly, I have flown with him !! I will also add, that the Improvement in handling, is enough to save your life under certain high speed road conditions. ( ie: High speed curves ) Also, if anyone buys and Old 1st gen, if you don't know the last time the brake caliper's , and master cylinders, were completly, rebuilt--- Do It !!! This bike is heavy, I have had all 3 calipers litteraly " smoking " while rideing some mountain roads !! If there are 15K on those brake pads, Replace them !!
  2. Well I took the 89 out for a 100 mile ride the other day, engine running like a " Swiss Watch " and most every other part of the bike functioning better then new !! Almost new tires, new brakes all around, Corbin Seat, All electrical mods, installed and functioning to prefection. I was thinking the same thing dureing that ride, but as I put the old girl thru her paces's, and thinking about the ride on the 97 FLH, last month, and compareing the two as for performance ???? Hmmm ?? Well, this old girl, has served me well, and she is going to stay on the road !! The 97 HorsePower is still there, on tap, as they say !!! I love this engine !!! Squidly !! Knows what I'm talking about here. And, spare parts are cheap !!!
  3. Power for the Blinker, System, comes " Thru " the Hazard Switch, " OFF " Contacts. Also, the Hazard switch, can, sit between, on and off, then neither system will be powered. ( put it this way, if that switch is not in the OFF position, or if that set of contacts, is intermittant, that could be your problem ) Put the Haz. Switch, to OFF position, follow the cable till it comes to a " plug, " The plug, has, 8 wires connected to -- Read thru the Br/y wire to the Br color wire. You should read zero ohms, with switch OFF then Use an OHM meter to determine, IF, the OFF contacts are Good. ie: zero ohms thru the switch. I suspect you have and Intermittant set of contacts. OR--- Some Dirty male and female Pins in the above mentioned pull apart plug. Its located behind the headlight somplace in there. Also, check the Signal Fuse, Holder, for " loose " or " intermittant contacts "
  4. Drain at plug under water pump. ( easy ) Siphon out the overflow tank. Fill system with water hose, Run engine, to operating temp. Drain again, at plug under water pump . Refill with water, Run engine, and drain. Rinse out overflow, tank. ( maby repeat, refill with water, and run to temp ) Add, 1 1/2 Qt Anti freze, and 1 1/2 Qt Distilled water. Go for a drive. Next day, top off overflow tank with 50/50 mix antifreez. Nothing to remove except the Drain plug, at pump, and Radiator Cap !! Its easy, works just fine. Seems like this should work on a 2nd Gen also.
  5. One guy, said, last year. Rear tire was worn out, Had Ride On in it, since new. He removed wheel, and Screwed " three " Sheet metal screws into the Old tire before removeing. He said, the tire only lost about 3 lb of air in the process. Let sit till next day, still same pressure, then he installed the New tire. I use it, in all new tire installations now. !! It also, balances the wheel, as per Ride On company. ( I'm not sure about that though )
  6. Open each, drain one at a time, with about 1/2 can of Sea foam added to about 3 gallons of gas in tank, Key, to ON, pump should pump fuel thru each of the Carb bowl drain hoses. Small hose from bottom of each carb. ( Not the Vent hose from top of carb ) Valve to open drain, is a #2 phillips head screw, on side of each carb body. Do this several times over a few days, the Float valve might clear up with the sea-foam cleaner. Also run engine several times a day. Worth a try, before you pull them apart.
  7. the small hole is a moisture drain.
  8. www.firestik.com Most likley time for a new antenna
  9. http://www.firestik.com/catalogFrame.htm They have all type's of mounts avialable on there web site, in addition to complete line of antennas, if you need one. Firestik, is the prefered replacement for the stock piece of junk.
  10. Adjusting the " Length " of the Antenna, is what sets the SWR. The splitter pot is just to Peak the radio Reception. Use an AM Station. Install SWR meter in line, to adjust the Antenna length for SWR. If you still have stock antenna, leave it about where it was. If you have an aftermarket CB antenna, start at about the Center of the Adjustable amount supplied by the Ant. mfgr, Its probably allready in the ball park.
  11. 2 year old bike, Yamaha used DOT - 3 most likley. Replace ALL the fluid !! Clutch, and Brakes systems, Its the right thing to do !! Use DOT - 4, or Valvoline Synthectic Fluid.
  12. I would say a little on the rich side, but not bad. I've seen a lot worse then that
  13. Did you open the drain screw on that carb ?? Each carb bowl has its own Drain hose. Phillips head screw to open the drain.
  14. Is this a High Mileage Bike?? The Heavy Internal contacts of the Starter Solinoid, are probably mostly fried. This will add a high resistance in series between the Battery and Starter Motor. That will cause a large Voltage drop, Now the voltage to All other Systems, ( ignition system included ) will be low. Your not out of the woods , your problem will come back. Also, Clean and resolder the Studs on both ends of the battery cables. Check the main ground point at the rt. fwd corner of the Engint lower case. However, if battery is over 3 years old, it is Very Suspect, of an Internal Intermittant Short . Also check the Plug between the Stator, and the Rectifyer/Regulator Unit for Burnt Pins ( a common problem ) Electricity is an Incidious Thing !!! Its haunted me all my life !!
  15. did you check the classified on this web site. several 1st gens there for sale.
  16. You can now carry a " spare " TCI, on long trips. When you are crossing Neveda on Highway 50, and your TCI goes south, Its now very easy to change,
  17. I might be wrong. But seem to remember sombody makeing a posting, that he removed the switch, dissassembled the switch, and was able to repair it. ??? But don't remember who, but as I recall it was about 6 months ago Its simply one bad contact in the unit. There is also a posting somplace as to Installing a hidden toggle switch, to bypass the On-Off contacts. Not that hard to do.
  18. Be sure to send a note to " Arnold " to let him know you are leaveing !!! I left there in 1970!! But I still like to go back and ride the great roads there !!
  19. I think you have a coil going bad. Better order a new one. I left one day, with one plug wire disconnected ( stupid mistake ) and got up to 50 MPH, before I even realized something was wrong.
  20. When rideing a Motorcycle, Stay Away From Trucks !!! And, cars if possible --- Don't tail gate, and don't allow yourself to be tailgeted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Maby a sick spark plug. Have you pulled plugs to see what they look like.??? Maby a coil going bad, not uncommon. Maby high resistance, or intermittant connection across the Run-Stop Switch. Have you checked the 15 Amp Ignition fuse holder for loose connections there.?? Maby dirty connectors on the TCI Unit, Pull plugs and clean the pins. Pull the plug out of you Regulator/Rectifier unit. ( Left field item ) and Inspect and clean the Pins of that plug. Might be some fried pins there. These are all Witch Hunt items, But, ?????
  22. I just pull the drain plug, then Rinse with hose at rad cap. let it run, drain again, and repeat this a couple times. then add the correct amount of Antifreez 1 1/2 qts. then top off with distilled water. Run engine, and top off the overflow tank the next day . Seems to work great.
  23. Thanks for that information, most appreciated !!
  24. Morel of this story, is, Hook Pump, directly, to Battery Terminals And, read the Instruction sheet !!
